For a nice Easter egg, go back to S1 Ep11 and look at the wall in the room that Bam, Rachel, and Hansung Yu were in (right before Bam talked to the monster to take the Administrators test). You'll notice the wall design matches Bam's robe.

Wave controllers are indeed ranged dps normally. Because heir bodies are incredibly weak in themselves, it's usually quite easy to defeat them. That is why the guys were shocked when he showed them wave controlling because before he went meele fighting so they espected him to be fisherman or something. Normal wave controller would not dare to go close combats.
Fisherman or scout are usually good in melee

Nostalgic seeing this scene, I remember years ago thinking that it would take a real while before Bam reappears and Wangnan would be the main focus for S2. Then hyped back up when long-haired Bam reappeared. Though I'm kinda disappointed they cut out Yuri's goofy dialogue with Repellista from the webtoon, saying that she found Bam really handsome and was fawning on him bad, that's why she's insistent that he should still be alive.
She's like a wholesome elder sister gooning over her younger brother and teasing him to be a heartbreaker someday lol
i just reread the first few chapters of the webtoon, and theres like barely any cut content, just a couple changed dialogues and nothing that affects the story was cut. also the art style shift sorta matches with the webtoon too, the authors art style also changed from season 1 and 2 from what i remember. all in all, great first episode imo
just some side info that isnt shown in the anime (cut content) Repellista's butler's name is Alumik Edrok and it is shown that he isnt just the butler but also her guide. Edrok is the same family name as Evan, Yuri's Guide. This is all from Season 2 Issue 0.

You are correct in your initial thoughts time has passed, To be accurate its been 6 years since what happened at the end of Season 1 / beginning of season 2 with Bam's training to the point where he re-appears with that long hair.

Bam is weak physically but has a higher resistance to shinsu attacks, see how he usually fights by redirecting blows rather than parrying it?

It's in the manhwa to, they just did a shitty Job of elaborating. They weren't shinsu bombs, they were actual bombs. He thought they were shinsu but they weren't so he didn't guard/avoid them which is how they were able to do so much damage. At this point his body is not physically powerful, although super resistant to shinsu based attacks, it's fragile to actual physical attacks

Tower of god season 2 turn into s1 or classroom of the elite s1 to s3 type mid adaptation again . But i don't mind beacuse atleast better than the promise neverland season 2 and tokyo ghoul re . They adapt same as 90% to 93% or max 94% webtoon source material and cut some minor scene / dialogue . Im supporting tog s2 beacuse i want more tower of god anime season in the future .
