Yeah that was good fun, after that Hamilton started pouring salt into Norris wounds asking him about tyrechoice and pitstops 😂 He definitely was on a roll
I really like that you guys are asking questions that the average fan is probably wondering. Yes, F1 nerds think you need to know more to have the honor to talk to Gunthuer, I think you guys make it more approachable. Keep up the good work.
Lando’s learning his lesson that its not just about having the fastest car. You can hear it in his post race interviews he knows the champions are out driving him
Lando needs to stop moving out of Max's way especialy when Lewis is ahead, if he would race Max like he does every one else he might learn a thing or two about himself.
Ferrari didn't go for him because of his engineering know-how because he doesn't have any. His input is valuable but his input didn't design his race winning cars. He offered feedback.
I've been telling ppl this, but they seem unable to understand. Ferrari needs a driver who can push development in the right direction. They have the staff, but they need guidance. I think ppl are gonna be shocked.
I can see the parallel between Hamilton rookie season winning races and almost winning the championship in McLaren and Lando/Oscar having also the fastest car but not making this difference, there you can see the difference between a great driver and the greatest ever drivers, Lando/Oscar are getting better and sure they will win in the future, but Hamilton is just one of the greatest ever
Unless you think Raikkonen (or Massa a year later) was as good als Hamilton and Alonso, the McLaren wasn't the fastest. Also, I think your reasoning is a bit easy. The field is also stronger than ever and the difference between the top teams and the rest is smaller than it was in the mid-00s, plus the cars are way wider and have way more mechanical grip, so it is way easier to defend than it was back in the day. To put it simply: you can't compare generations. In the end, you can only do it when two drivers are in the same car and get the same amount of support which hardly ever happens. Maybe if the less supported guy beats the better supported guy. Like Hamilton did vs Alonso who was the first driver, got the best mechanics and engineers and brought people from the FIA in towards the end to guarantee equal treatment.

Best part of F1 that isn’t actually F1. So tired of all the drama chasing in other podcasts and channels. You guys are just fun and Gunther is the best thing that ever came out of F1.
Guenther secretly loves all the Hollywood bullshit 😂 He referred to Joseph Kosinski as "Joe", bro is definitely all in on the fun and the spectacle and I'm loving this for him!
Adrian Newey is: 1) The best Aerodynamicist in F1 (probably ever). 2) He is the only current Aerodynamicist in F1 that was working during the previous "ground effect" era.
Great episode everyone! I appreciated the effort to retread the emotional perspective to try to get Guenther to understand the position. After listening to this, I would venture to say he has a very matter of fact way of seeing pretty much everything. I am sure that protected him in some of the toughest things he experienced in the job, particularly the Grosjean crash. It seemed like once Guenther knew he was okay, then that was it, no need to remain emotional. And he did turn out to be okay 🙌! I would have been a sobbing mess myself, but we all process things differently. I certainly cried for most of the last 5 laps at Silverstone and then pretty much continuously until after the podium. I thought I heard some on site reporters choking up during interviews as well. 🥰 What a race! It's okay to cry!! 🥹
gunter is on some bull. Lewis came in as a rookie and went toe to toe with Alonso that had just deposed Michael Schumacher 2 years in a row. None of the rookies of today included Max would have handled it against Alonso. Now if Max had had a few years in gp 2 he would have had been more ready
Call it Red Flags Network,Media, etc. and have some branding for each podcast in the thumbnail. Hard to Discern when every time the title makes it seem like he is a guest. All love, just a thought! look forward to these every race.
Don't big him up too much, he is a humble character... But a real character nonetheless. Edited this comment from good to GREAT questions you asked Gunther. Really enjoyed this
You just missed the years of Senna vs Prost and then Senna vs Schumacher. You closed a season in Suzuka by driving your opponent into the gravel in turn 1. That was hair raising! Or then Braun winning on their 1st season out of the blue. This was just a nice moment.
I love Guenther he is the best of drive to survive.. as a 25 year long F1 fan he is a pure character in the sport and makes us believe that drivers are human and sports team directors are not faultless.

The difference between good and great is that something special, that je ne sais quoi. You can’t teach it, you’re born with it. Lando is a solid, very good driver but doesn’t have that natural something. No offense to Lando, he’ll learn but he’ll never be a Lewis, Max or Michael.
Great podcast great questions..no bull shit. I love it. The warmth here is what is missing from a lot of podcasts. These guys are knowledgeable too...even Gunther did not know that Lewis and Fernando was in the same team.
I see something that wasn't mentioned when you discussed Lewis vs Lando in their early stages of their careers. Back in the day teams could have done as many preparations as they wanted before winter testing. This meant McLaren made lewis drive more than twice the distance of the whole season in practice with the car he would be driving that year (for reference Alonso had MUCH less time in practice). Lando on the other hand went into f1 with only winter testing which is usually around the length of 2-4 races per driver. This was then changed because teams who didn't have the capital to run these practices were in HUGE disadvantage.
GUENTHER should take over the pre race F1 grid walk instead of Martin Brundle - it would be fire. He can call out all the posers and desperate hangers on who just go there to try and seem relevant, but really know or care nothing about the sport 😂
Great entertaining show gents :) A great episode with Guenther might be to describe what all the main people in an F1 team do. And what they exactly are responsible for (Team Prinicple, Chief Mechanic, Chief Engineer, Strategest etc). I guess we know roughly what they do, but a deep dive would be fun 🤟
Ferraris Problem is suspension, at the begining off the year someone at ferrari said it was not important and here we are. Mercesdes said they figured out something with suspension and they are back!
Haas needs to use every penny they can and spend it on a Sainz contract. He would be going from team Ferrari to a Ferrari engine that we have seen the last two races is capable. Bearman x Sainz combo would make for some very entertaining racing.
Maybe Ferrari test on there own track prior to the season so they always get a good start .That would explain why they are good at the start of the season
The bad decision to pull LeClerc in for Intermediates was made by LeClerc himself. Try to keep up! And Guenter didn't get emotional about Lewis' win, as he says himself.
Gunther is an iron man lmao, I’m not a Merc fan and I still cried. Now I just want to do tests on this man, make him watch the saddest possible movies and measure the moisture levels 😂
A bit disappointed over Günthers thoughts on Magnussen! I don´t see Hulk being better than KMAG! Yeah sure, the Hulk is better in qualifying, but in overall race, think they are equal, if Kevin is not a bit better, especially in His starts, and first rounds! He is called the rocket man cause of His explosive starts!
Guenther was definitely the best part of the F1 movie teaser.

I think Lewis has zero regrets about his move. He helps engineers to build a great car, and that's one of the reasons why Ferrari went for him.
Exactly.Lewis has been doing this long enough to be a great asset to any team. Not only with driving.
Exactly 3 years with Ferrari vs 1+1 with Merc

Regarding "coming out of the box early," young drivers today don't get as much testing as they did 20 years ago.
That's true but you can also counter that by saying F2 is closer to F1 than GP2 was.
