Hard to articulate how much I've loved this recording over the years. I lost my Cuban Mama this weekend and turned to this recording for solace and Guantanamera (a favourite of hers) took on a whole new meaning. Unlike its usual readings, this version has a quiet and delicate grace...qualities that I've always equated with my Mamita.
Everytime I listen to this recordf I feel the urge to like this post again, and when I check I see that I have already liked it the past...like I cannot find other ways to express publically how much I like this.

Once I made a radio programme called Africa Cuba y Visceversa in 2007, which tells about the connection we are listening on Afrocubism, great stuff...! Balafon, Kora, Congas, Tres, Maracas, Singing.... FANTASTIC... thanks to the people who made this project come true...
Love this album. This album has been out for a while but I'm glad i found it. I love the eclectic mix and the afro-cuban sound. It's a little like Afro-cuban blues to me. :-)
Thank you Al Gore for inventing the internet! Without the internet I would never be exposed to such wonderful sounds. This is my new favorite album, taking a place with all my other favorite albums.
I wish they would list all the instruments played in each recording. In some selections, some of the instruments are not the ones usually played in Cuban music, which add a very interesting color to the recordings.

The unusual instruments are the Balafon (Marimba), Kamelen Ngoni(Harp), Djeli Ngoni(Lute) and Kora(Harp-Lute) from West Africa. Electric Guitar too.
