That was MUSIC. I am 77, and music has always been the ONE uniting thing for everyone. I remember my mom and dad dancing to this in our living room. Oh, what memories after so many years. Thanks.
Hey, my dad is the drummer on this record!!! He was part of Mr. Price's band for about two years. He always spoke highly of Mr. Price, both as a singer/entertainer, as an employer, and as a person. (My dad's name was Bob Emerson, BTW.)
I'm glad you made that comment. I was thinking about how subtle the backing instruments are. Especially the drums. I don't know if you are a musician or not, but that is not easy to do. Just from this recording i can tell that your father was an excellent drummer
The late Ray Price is one of my favorite singers. He had two singing phases during his career. The first was his "shuffle beat" songs from the '50s and early '60s. They were up-tempo, hardcore country songs like Pride, One More Time, Heart Over Mind, Heartaches By the Number, The Same Old Me, Crazy Arms, Release Me, City Lights, Walkin' Slow, Invitation to the Blues, Under Your Spell Again, My Shoes Keep Walking Back to You. In the late '60s and the 1970s, he reinvented himself, becoming more of a crooner with For The Good Times, I Won't Mention It Again, Make the World Go Away, You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me. He's a pleasure to listen to.
The most beautiful yet sad song Kris Kristofferson ever wrote. Ray turns it into the epitome of Countrypolitan Nashville smoothness. Produced by the legendary Don Law, who was the head of Columbia Records Country music division. Law was the man who recorded Robert Johnson's landmark blues sides in Dallas and San Antonio. Love it Craig. Thanks to you and Harri.
Oh Harri! This was a favorite of my Dads back in the 70s. He's been gone now for over 30 years but hearing this brought me right back to the 70s and riding in the front seat between my parents in the Pontiac Station wagon. I love how music can do that. Another great song he loved and you would too is It's All In The Game by Tommy Edwards. Would love to know what you think. Thanks for the memories Harri. 💜💜💜
@AgingDrummerBoy-ly1js no. Don't think like that. I was a late in life baby. My brother and sister were 12 and 13 years older. I think my parents took pity on me. If the dog was with us I sat in back with her. But if sadistic Grammy who used to pinch me was with us I got to sit in the front. 😉
got up for school every morning to this on the radio, and my mom dancing in the kitchen. fun fact, this was the most played song in radio history until michael jackson
Great reaction to a great song.. thank-you. If you want to hear an amazing song by Kris Kristofferson.. a duet with his (then) wife Rita Coolidge - Help Me Make it Through the Night.
Ray Price was the Frank Sinatra of Country Music! Close friend of Hank Williams Sr & US Marine Veteran of the South Pacific. Ray was a co-founder of 1950s 'Shuffle Beat' Country Music! Try his early stuff; 'City Lights', 'Crazy Arms', etc :)
I didn't appreciate this song as a teen when it came out. But I have to say it is so beautiful as I hear it now. And Kris Kristofferson, what an incredible creation you gave us. RIP to both you and Ray... Magnificent!
This song makes me think of my Pop-Pop who passed in 1986.. but he taught me classic country music and this is most definitely one of the songs he would be listening to on his old radio in his shed working on something with me right by his side at 5 yrs old. Kris Kristofferson wrote amazing music.
Kris Kristofferson has written some of my favorite songs ever. Another great one. Rays' version is the one I know most because of my parents playing it in the house....
this song by ray is from the early 70's i believe. traditional country music was changing. ray wanted to prove to the pop world that he could sing more than just hillbilly. ray price is right behind hank williams and george jones as my favorite. like you said harri don't listen to ray if you are an emotional person , ray 's songs hit very hard. thanks for listening to me harri.
This has always been our favorite slow dance for my husband and me. Love it. We have been slow dancing for 63 years, two dating and 61 married. Still going strong.❤️
What a great song. They called this style of music "countrypolitan" (country + metropolitan). It was orchestrated and classy, with one foot in country music and the other in the crooner style of Sinatra and Dean Martin (and you called it Harri, Martin did indeed cover this song). Other countrypolitan singers included Eddy Arnold, Jim Reeves, Charlie Rich, and Charley Pride. Some of them would perform on stage in tuxedos with shiny cowboy boots and bolo ties.
One distinction Ray Price had was that he was the first truly successful cross over artist ~ he took what up until he came along music that had the label "Hillbilly Music" & got coverage on mainstream radio
Have you heard Andy Williams sing "A Time for Us" from Romeo and Juliet? Or "How Do I Begin" from the 1970 movie Love Story? Johnny Mathis slays those songs too. Should be at the top of this genre's list.
Thank you Craig and Harri♥️ This song reminds me of my parents, they were divorced but still loved and cared for each other, I remember them both listening to this♥️💔 beautiful voice💫🎼♥️
This was certainly the classy way to break up, and he had a nice voice, but my favorite break up song is Positively 4th Street by Bob Dylan. He leaves no doubt it's over.
Love the videos. Actually, this is not in the style of the crooners. This is country music. Ray Price epitomizes the true "country gentleman" tradition in romantic and often sad love songs in country music. "For The Good Times" is one of the defining songs of this genre and Ray Price is the master. Jim Reeves (hauntingly beautiful voice) was the other great master of this genre, with "Make The World Go Away", "He'll Have To Go" and "Welcome To My World". The "crooners" as I call them are all wonderful, but they never attempt, reach or show this level of pathos, sadness, pain, and yet, fortitude. Even in the face of devastating, heart-breaking betrayal, they remain the kind and gracious country gentleman -- as real men should be! A VERY rare quality, unheard of today! Manly strength combined with gentlemanly elegance at its best! Check out the Jim Reeves songs. Listen again and God bless!
Just beautifull ❤ Do remember the song, not sure if it was this version Thank you so much Craig for the suggestion and Harri for bringing it for us all to enjoy 🤩🙏😇
The album title of the same name has some amazing songs on it. Crazy Arms,Heartaches By The Number, A Cold Day in July. The whole album is extraordinary.
At least mention the songwriter: Kris Kristofferson. Also, react to my favorite version, which is by Al Green. Not necessarily better than this version, but...

That's so neat!
So cool!!! I heard this song so much on the radio when I was a little girl.
So nice of you to share. Glad to know he was a good person.
Harri did you find your song yet?
I'm glad you made that comment. I was thinking about how subtle the backing instruments are. Especially the drums. I don't know if you are a musician or not, but that is not easy to do. Just from this recording i can tell that your father was an excellent drummer
This song was my fathers favorite!!! I remember him picking me up to dance!! Years and years later I still cry.
I've lost my parents also. Aren't we blessed to have had loving parents we dearly miss.
Don't cry honey, be happy with your Memories 💞 xoxo💞
Ray Price, one of my late mom's favorites, along with Jim Reeves. Still have her tapes after 25 yrs gone. Miss and love you Mama
Wonderful memories for you I am sure.
It is such a sad & lovely song. Love your #musicreactions - Kris Kristofferson is such a brilliant songwriter.
❤❤❤
Top tier singer, Ray Price's voice was phenomenal. And I didn't know it was written by Kristofferson.
Eddy Arnold, Ray Price and Jim Reeves put "S" in smooth.

Nice term, Countrypolitan, brought about a big change for Country music in the late 60s and early 70s.
Thanks!

Perry Como had a huge hit with this song back in the early 70's.

Elvis recorded this song as well. Just beautiful.
Ray Price is a country version of Dean Martin or etc ❤❤❤ ❤❤❤
The best description of Ray Price I've ever heard or read.
Love Ray Price. Magnificent voice.

Another one of Kris Kristoferson’s masterpieces.

Magnificent!
Thankfully, Kris K. is still with us (as of 04/2024).

Best Country song of all time as sung by the one and only Ray Price.
"Make believe you love you one more time..." One of the saddest lines of any song in any genre.
I havent heard this in years! wonderful
My mom, and grandmother loved this song and so do I. I can hear my mom singing it and it brings so many great memories for such a sad song.
Ray Price, "Blue Spanish Eyes" and "I Won't Mention it Again."
Ray was such a smooth singer.

R.I.P. Kris. We will miss you very much. Thank you for the devine poetry.
You are right, Dean Martin did cover this. Love me some Dean Martin.
This is the greatest country singer who ever lived
Perry Como does a fantastic but very touching rendition. 😢
What a gorgeous song and it has been a while for me. Thanks Craig and Harri.
You’re welcome!
Mr Prices music is beautiful and timeless ❤😊
Ray had one of the most beautiful, soft and mellow voices I have ever heard. Rest In Peace Ray!
Ray Price recorded 'Release Me' long before Engelbert did it
Smooth as silk
For some other gems - Tony Bennett's Yesterday I Heard the Rain, The Shadow of Your Smile or Once Upon a Time - all wistful and achingly beautiful.
My dad liked Mr. Price.
Oh I love this song.
Thank you for mentioning that Kris wrote it, I wasn't aware of that...
My daddy used to going fishing with ray....good times
Sad sad song from the sixties.
My parents loved him!!! ♥️
listen to ray price singing neither one of us
My Dad's favorite artist.
And absolute favorite from my childhood. I agree, SO BEAUTIFUL.
A few years back they had The Last of the Breed Tour. With Ray Price, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.
This song is one of those classics that I have heard for most of my life. It always sounds good. Thanks Harri and Craig 🌺✌️
You’re welcome!
I whish you also could react to one on his last album. The song is called "No More Songs to Sing. such a bautifull song.
Dino has a great live version of this.
YOU'R THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME.
I love your reaction to this! Ray Price strikes me as the traditional gentleman.
Great choice Craig. Ray Price introduced a smooth sophisticated sound to Country Music. Harri a great analysis, information and reaction
Thanks!
Your emotion is priceless, keep up the good work!
Such a beautiful song. Takes me way back. Thanks, again
Dean Martin has a terrific version!

Dean Martin also does a spot on version of this song.
Al Green also does a great version of this song. Definitely worth a listen

I grew up with the Al Green version of this... and I fell it's up in the top 5 on break-up songs.
Ahhh This one reminds me of mom. I can hear her singing very off key but with all the feeling. 💖🥲
You have my favorite sweater on👍❤️
love this!
Just beautifull ❤ Do remember the song, not sure if it was this version
Thank you so much Craig for the suggestion and Harri for bringing it for us all to enjoy 🤩🙏😇

Dude, you're the man. Love the hoodie
❤❤
The only version I knew of, was Elvis version. Didn't know anyone else did this song.
Kristofferson sang his song on an album in1970 just before Ray Price covered it too.
Luv that u do all kinds of.music..this was so pleasant
Please react to Don Gibson “Sea of Heartbreak.”
But it was 💯 percent country. Warm voice.
If you don't hear the Al Green version of this song, I'm coming looking for you.
perry Como version is great!
I can see where it does sound like something by Dean Martin, or Frank Sinatra, or any of the crooners of that era.
If your looking for a way out by Odyssey another classic break up song .
RIP kris Kristofferson
For beautiful breakup songs, how about "Please Release Me" by Engelbert Humperdinck.
You want a great break up song, listen to "Wasted Time" by The Eagles. That one helped get me through a divorce and everything that goes with it.
Personally, my vote for greatest breakup song goes to Harry Nilsson “You’re Breaking my Heart”. But that’s just me.
At least mention the songwriter: Kris Kristofferson. Also, react to my favorite version, which is by Al Green. Not necessarily better than this version, but...
He did mention it was written by Kris Kristofferson at about 2:10 in the video.
@@ptournas oops my bad sorry harri
Elvis and Aaeon Neville cov3red this song as well. Aaron did it best.
Could you please react too Ferlin Husky Wings of a Dove.
