Downtown Toronto is particularly diverse as the Universities are so close by, and of course is a meeting point between neighbourhoods. You've also noted an emerging economic issue that Canada is working to balance, and that's how to grow an economy coupled with population growth (predominately through immigration and international students). Either way I've never felt Yonge & Dundas so alive. It's become one of Canada's most exciting 'public' spaces.
