I wanted to answer 8bits' question. My grandfather was the last west coast lighthouse keeper. He was stationed on the Northern California coast.
The question asked was "was it really that secluded?"..... Yes it was. These keepers worked 24/7. Most were married and raised their families on these lonely stations. Keepers were required to leave the light for 1 month a year for "vacation". This was more of a mental health break. If conditions did not allow for the keeper to leave... They didn't leave, regardless of need.. sickness or injury was no exception. If their children needed access to school.. families would separate for a short time.
Lighthouses were the ultimate full time job.

For those who have no clue about the achievements or weren't paying attention to them, the achievements are named after tarot cards of the Major Arcana (which means they're all specially unique) with pictures from the Rider-Waite tarot deck.

At 58:09 that is a direct quote from Joseph the King of Dreams, where his brothers had thrown him into a pit and taken his coat his mother made for him. After they took his coat they killed a goat and dipped it in the blood of the animal before telling their parents that Joseph was mauled to death by a wolf (or something like that). The game I think centers around this diety the island worshipped and made sacrifices to keep the creature happy

i think the chest was important and it may be the key to another ending, the chest might have a gun in it and if u open it and get to the part where u had to fight it that could be a ending if u would kill the monster. that or the part where u entered the celler and ran from the monster before jumping into the hole maybe you had to find his son in that case it could change some parts of the story. i don't know that's just my take on it but overall i loved the video as usual and im glad to see you smiling again ryan take care

Another well played PS1 style horror game. I like how it’s a copy of the real life job as a Lighthouse worker. Also the low quality of the persons view makes the game even less settling. These poor quality games r starting to make a come back. And it’s a damn good one too. Keep us in-tuned and waiting more.
Okay, this game was very confusing, but I'm going to try my best to put it all together. Let me know if anything here sounds wrong.
It seems like there are a total of 3 lighthouse keepers we play as in this game.
The first one we play as is the 2nd. They're the one you play as when you start the game, and they go missing (likely killed by the monster), so they're replaced by the third. I think they might be the shadowy figure that pops up every now and then.
The third is the one you play as through most of the game. They're the one who replaces the second and the one who faces the monster multiple times. At some point, they're chased down by the monster and fall into a... nest, maybe? Eventually, they jump down the hole when that monster is there (In the scene where they should have a gun) and die.
The first is the one in the village. I think he lost himself and was possibly found by Satan? There is a lot of talk of repenting from that meat sack at the end. In his monster form, he kills his son. He constantly drinks to deal with the grief, and he starts searching for his son in his drunken state. At some point, he's taken down to the nest, and kept there for quite a while, until he awakes again upon the third's arrival. He is the monster the third faces.
Again, let me know of your theories.
A theory of mine is that the nest is probably dante's inferno...

We appreciate the fact that you care about our opinions, but you are also entitled to play something that you want to every once in a while. Something I didn't notice until having watched a different video was that this game is one of very few games that has a second person perspective. You view things from the monster's perspective yet control yourself trying to avoid them. Very fascinating.

Another game implementing the 2nd-person view. Nice. That is so rare and it's nice that more game devs are very slowly trying it in their games. I know it's very jarring and that is why there isn't a lot of it but it's nice that there are at least 3 games that have it.

As soon as I saw the storage shack near the beginning of the game, I thought to myself “That’s going to be a hiding place later on, isn’t it?” And I was dead right!

Just a little note, you got the bad ending where the lighthouse keeper would continue going missing, if you found the first rune (thing for the chest) you would of unlocked the shotgun and if you killed the monster instead of jumping into the hole at the end, you would of got the good ending where you stopped the curse of the missing lighthouse keeper.
So what's the actual story? It was kinda hard to follow for me
@@whatwecalllife7034 We are the new keeper of the lighhouse and we basically need to attend to it. As day passed we are hunted and persecuted by a creature which in the end force us jump in a well. There, we found a strange temple and we get flashbacks of the life of a keeper in the past whose son was supposedly killed by the villagers of the island in somekind of ceremony. In the end we confront the keeper and we either kill him or sacrifice ourselves in the pit. In this later case we reborn as the new monster and we harrass the new keeper and the cycle continues.
It took me a few tries to fully understand the story and there are still bits I'm not certain of but this is the main story. Hope this helps :)

If you're up for more Nautical themed mystery, a game I can certainly recommend would be "the Return of the Obra Dinn," a mystery-adventure game made by the same people who made "Papers Please," in which your character, a representative of the British East India Company is assigned to the ship, in order to discover what happened to the crew, why the ship vanished for nearly a decade, and what caused them to get lost in the first place.
It's a game of deduction, where you have to pay VERY close attention to all the details, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem (accents, style of dress, nationalities, the dialogue of the characters you're investigating, real world history, and the context clues of what their occupation aboard the Obra Dinn was, as well as when and where they were when they died or went missing).
The game is not presented in the appropriate order, instead it begins at the end of the story (everyone dead or missing, ship a ghost vessel devoid of life), with you retroactively trying to rewind time and backpedal to discover the ship's history, filling in the blanks.
So I live in the upstate and south Carolina and the second I got to the part of the video where it starts storming heavily it starts storming just as hard here, it's even hailing. It's been building up all day but still kinda ominous how it starts at the same point in the video as that stotm

A symptom of being a lighthouse keeper was mercury poisoning, causing hallucinations and keepers often going crazy or committing self die
Seen a bunch of RUclipsrs play this back when it came out, it honestly didn't cross my mind that you didn't play this until now
I thought your lamp was a revolver the whole time since getting 9 minutes into the vid and I’ve been thinking “why is he carrying a revolver everywhere?!” And then when you said it had PlayStation graphics from the glory days, I remembered Spyro on the original PlayStation and it looked like that somewhat that’s when I realized it was a lamp! 😂😂😂😂😂

The monster is basically a giant coconut crab, one of the largest and scariest crabs in the world, and coconut crabs do feed off of human bodies

the player gets drunk and falls over 49:40, the oil barrel falls over the basement door and traps the son under the lighhouse.
the son does not make it out, and because the dad feels guilty for this being his fault he is in some sort of limbo.
but that is just my theory

Darkwood. A game with amazing mechanic and story line, can be about confusing but it is one of the best horror game with no jumpscare. It was release many years ago
