Hi Steven, Happy Tuesday! I can't see my dad drinking it, he was more of a beer/wine person but my mother would probably would have loved them. I could see them being a holiday fave but a clear divide (like Marmite) - you either like it or you don't :)
The only time my late mother and aunt would have a drink was at Christmas or the New Year. Advocaat in a snowball then sleep, champagne and sleep. I hate the stuff and when moving house l found a bottle unopened and forgotten. If it had a use by date it had expired a long time ago. Try as my mother did shaving chocolate on it ,so sophisticated !!
Hi Andrew! I feel as the years go on, that tends to be our ritual over here - holiday + Drink = Goto Bed :) Thank you - we'll give the shaved chocolate a try, might even try it in Bailey's . Happy Tuesday!
I am already on my second bottle this year, tried it for the first time last year, and loved it. I like to drink it straight, as i think lemonade can be too strong for the creamy flavour to take. It's a great sipping drink, similar to sipping Bailey's. I'm gonna go get a glass now, and team it with a warm mince pie.
Hi Halloweenville! Ross here, I could see that being an easy habit to get into with sipping it, may even have some tonight. Really like it, just not something we easily find here, we'll need to check our Total Wine & More shop. Next time we have mince pies, we'll pair it also! Happy Tuesday!
Advocaat, a Dutch drink, was originally made with avocado by Dutch sailors in Brazil in the 17th century. However, when they returned to the Netherlands, due to a lack of avocados, back home it was made with eggs and evaporated milk.
Hi James! Thank you, we weren't aware of the background behind it. Just looked it up myself, saw that it was called "abacate" when made with avocados. That sounds like such an odd drink, would never think of using avocados for drinks. What do you think of advocaat, like/dislike? Happy Tuesday!
I think the Snowball drink is loved more for its nostalgia than its taste!! It's been a Christmas memory all my life!! Advocaat isn't my favourite either Tina!! It's OK, you don't have to like it! I think an old, out of date bottle of Advocaat can be found in many a drink cabinet!! Cheers! 🍸 🍹
Hi Agranda, I'll likely try it a few more times, maybe in different drink recipes. It's funny how drinks and food can really take you back. I remember my nana making Tom and Jerrys on Christmas eve.
Hi Sarah! Our bad, it was our first time trying it straight :) Slam it down in a shot glass, anything else for sipping. How do you like advocaat? Happy Tuesday!
Oooh seeing you drinking “snowballs” takes me back to Chrimbo as a child when all the fam got together - aunts, uncles (all now passed sadly 😢) cousins and second cousins all crammed into the living room etc….and in the evening, playing silly board games as my mum ‘s sister, my beloved Auntie Emmie would crack open the Warninks and make the snowballs in the Babycham glasses (those that know, will know 😉😉😂) and oh my liiiifffffe….. Auntie Emmie + a large snowball (or two) = carnage! 😱😱😱🤯🤯…… A very tipsy aunt would just quietly “disappear” from our living room and reappear about five mins later and be wearing something daft or embarrassing on her person - be it a large pair of “granny knickers” on her head or a tea cosy - one year she sported very large peacock feathers down the front of her trousers that covered her face. She was only 5’ 2” tall - the feathers were nearly as big as her and god knows where she got them from! Yes, you had to be there and know what she was like - but it she was so funny and she just relished in making an exhibition of herself and *I* have inherited her daft ways too! But in all honesty, the Snowball as a drink is ermmmm….. 🤢😵 but witnessing a favourite auntie getting trollied on drinking them - yes, make them “big ones” please! 🤣🤣
I remember babychams as a kid in the 80's, swigging a bottle when no one was looking (ahh the days). I bought some this year, but they were filled with sweeteners, absolutely ruined a gem of a drink.
Hi Dina, Happy Tuesday! Young adults here usually start on wine coolers, they may like snowballs better :) Looking forward to having more over the holidays. The consensus seems to be either people like it or don't care for it, how do you like them now?
My mam god rest her soul used to love advocaat with a splash of lemonade with decsicated coconut sprinkled over the top with a cocktail stick and a cherry , but her favourite tipple was a Drambue and lemonade
Hi John, if it was just a splash, would you say there was more advocaat compared to lemonade? The recipe we used had more lemonade. I think I've only had Drambue in one of those liquer filled chocolates!
@@FinnLovesFood My mam would have 1 part Lemonade to 3 parts advocaat and similar measurement's with her Drambue , the wife and I are off to Benidorm next week for Christmas and some lovely warm weather to warm our bones up from all the cold weather we've had here in Manchester , so have a peaceful Christmas and a healthy ,wealthy and happy New Year
Glad you both enjoy warnicks i like Ross enjoy it neat occasionally, never bother with cherry If use lemonade I tend not put too much in as better have that kick in alcohol flavours. On alcohol front I managed after many years not seen it get a 6 pack of Castlemaine XXXX lager now Gold hope the queensland brewery have revital I prefer that over Aussie Fosters.
Hi Richard, we saw a lot of variations on the snowball recipe with some only using a little bit of lemonade. We'll have to try it that way too. I don't think we've seen Castlemaine here.

When I lived in a pub my dad used to make it with brandy and lime juice added, it's not something I'd drink because I can't even stand the smell of advocat, give me a pint any day
Never say double fisting in UK or Europe 😂😅😂😅, the connotations lol
I saw a film like that once 😇😇
Ooops! 😯😆
My parents liked a snowball now and then when i was a kid. Can't say i like it but nice memories of days gone by. Best wishes take care 😊

I used to swig it out the bottle when I was a kid without my mum seeing 😀
"I'm just checking the expiration date mum, all good!" 😁
Cheers. 7Up is just as good as lemonade
Hi Graham! We liked it with the advocaat, and we saw the suggestion about trying it with ginger beer (that's next on the list) :) Happy Tuesday!

Snowballs are a must at Christmas!
Hi Jemma, are there any other popular Christmas drinks? Egg nog and brandy?
my wife makes icecream out of it, she also makes it with peach slices in the icecream... really good with chocolate chips...
Another viewer mentioned she pours it over ice cream. Now chocolate chips sound like a good addition!

Wow, it sounds like your Christmases were quite entertaining! What great memories. 🙂
You start drinking snowballs at about 12 years old. We would end up with half pints as adults

"Mike, a large snowball for Dora"
My first of any knowledge of it existing for a long while growing up
Hi Nick, it's not a well-known drink over here! We hadn't heard of it before.

Bought my first bottle two weeks ago and I’m a fan now
Enjoy!
Some people pour advocaat over vanilla ice cream.
Wait, what????, i have to try it.
Hi Margaret, that sounds interesting. That seems like it should be called a snowball more than the drink!
ahhh you need lime cordial too
Hi Catherine, we saw some recipes with it and some without. A few commented that it made the drink too sweet?

Eveninks and morninks………I drink Warninks.
😀
It's absolutely disgusting! Ha ha, my granny used to drink it 40 years ago, just vile.

@FinnLovesFood I don't like anything about it, the texture, the colour, the taste! It taste like cardboard mixed with custard!
When I lived in a pub my dad used to make it with brandy and lime juice added, it's not something I'd drink because I can't even stand the smell of advocat, give me a pint any day
Hi Michael, from comments the snowballs sound a bit like Marmite, people either love them or hate them! Hope you're having a good week.
