Sadder still than Erics passing, was the conciding with Freddie Mercurys passing on the SAME day. Both were HUGE losses to the world of music, but Erics death was barely mentioned while Freddie's dominated the news cycle. Another tragic coinciding passing date was Farrah Fawcett, on the same day as Micheal Jackson. May they ALL rest in peace.

I am so glad I was alive to hear this master sing it loud and proud!! I am a huge KISS fan ,was since I was young. I was always jealous that Paul Stanley was so amazing. This was their 2nd biggest popular hit; it hit the top 10 in 1990. So they're not young here--this is middle aged Kiss, around 40yo, years after they dropped the makeup. Cool thing about Kiss is that they have a long history that covers a variety of musical styles. Other great Kiss ballads are Reason to Live, I Still Love You, and most of all Beth--their biggest hit ever, topping even this song. You'll probably be shocked when you hear Beth. You won't believe it's Kiss.

A brief history of Kiss for you guys. They started in 1973 wearing makeup with Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley on guitar and Peter Criss on drums. They never appeared without their makeup until ‘82 or ‘83. Peter Criss left the band in 1980 and was replaced by Eric Carr (who plays on this song). Ace Frehley left a couple years later and was replaced by Vinnie Vincent. In ‘82 or ‘83 they took the makeup off for the first time when their video Lick It Up came out (and that’s why they’re photographed without showing their faces for the first part of that video). Vinnie Vincent was kicked out of the band and replaced briefly with Mark St. John and then he was replaced with Bruce Kulick (who is playing on this song). That lineup of Gene, Paul, Eric and Bruce was considered to be the second great lineup of Kiss and they stayed together until ‘92 when Eric Carr died of cancer and was replaced by Eric Singer. They stayed together until 1996 when Gene and Paul reunited with Ace and Peter (the original lineup) and they put the makeup back on permanently. Peter Criss left the band again around 2000 and was replaced by Eric Singer, and Ace left again a couple years later and was replaced by Tommy Thayer. And they’ve stayed together until present day.

In 2003 we literally had this song played (the actual cd) during our wedding ceremony. After my dearly departed Daddy left me at the alter hubby and I just looked at each other while this song played.
So long story short, I met him through friends. They told these wild drinking stories about him and I wanted nothing to do with him. He eventually got the message and stopped. One day hanging with friends KISS was brought up in the conversation. And we were just talking about we liked and how long we were fans. At that point I had been to a couple of their concerts. We were so wrapped up we didn’t notice everyone had left the room. Next thing I knew we were dating in June and engaged in November. We got married the following August. By engagement “Forever” was our song. It was the one thing he wanted to make sure was in the wedding.
We also played “I live my life for you” by Firehouse for the lighting of the unity candle. By the end of that song the preacher was singing along. I knew the song already but hubby heard it one day and said it has to be in our wedding. If you haven’t reacted to Firehouse yet your should. They are an underrated band.

@@jonbaggett2773 Nice memories you have as well. I have met them all in separate situations individually never as the band in whole or with make-up.I will one day go through and see how much I have spent on concert tickets just for KISS. I also seen Pantera 11 times from 93-2001. I do remember spending $500 each for 2nd row at the Psycho Circus tour, and 3rd row at the Reunion tour. I use to be at a concert as an attendant every week seeing someone. I also had the hook up for tickets, as I worked security for venues here in Cincinnati Ohio, It had it's perks. My late teens to my early 30's was filled with concerts, since then I see maybe 4 shows a year on average. Very few have experienced what we have that is for sure. We will have some very vivid memories of those times as well. Thanks for your story I enjoyed the read. Have a great day.

My favorite Kiss power ballad is "God Gave Rock n Roll to You" because it's not about the love of a certain person, man or woman, it's for all of us. I like to think of it as a Universal Love/Hype Song. I also love that you can hear Paul Stanley's slight lisp in the song...somehow it adds to it. "I know life can sometimes be hard, and I know life can sometimes be a drag, but people we have been given a gift. We have been given a road...and the name of that road is Rock n Roll"....classic!

Their best power ballad is "I Still Love You", which will give you CHILLS.
While I'm not always a fan of live versions if songs, the live version if this one is outstanding.

Early rock n' roll music was amazing for many of us. Please react to the legendary Bobby Rydell .. he came out in the fifties. Singer, dancer, comedian, actor, drummer, a performer of excellence, Bobby is iconic and was known for a golden voice! After more than a 5-decade long career, he sadly just passed a few months ago. He was known for kindness too. Biggest hits : VOLARE, SWAY, FORGET HIM, ITTY BITTY GIRL, I'VE GOT BONNIE, THE CHA CHA , THE BEST MAN CRIED, I'LL NEVER DANCE AGAIN, WILDWOOD DAYS , ONE GIRL, THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC and countless covers ....much of his music taught many of us kids about love.

Young Kiss is Kiss in makeup... this is in the late 80s early 90s when they took off the makeup out of respect for the makeup. They decided to do something they never had done, and it worked. They put the makeup back on when they reunited in 1998 for the Psycho Circus album. They have a crazy, roller coaster career that is quite interesting to learn about.

What I like about Kiss is not only they are all talented but versatile in many styles of music. They have even done a TV movie Kiss meets the Phantom of the Park. A good Halloween type movie with a mad inventor and Kiss superpowers, lol. Not a great movie but a fun one to watch.

Yeah i love this era of KISS with Bruce Kulick on lead guitar. I love Ace, but Bruce is brilliant and I think his acoustic playing when it fits the song is just fantastic. Seeing them both on the MTV Unplugged is the best example of just how overall of a talented band they all were/are.

A little Kisstory for you guys.
They hit the music scene in 1973. From 1973-1980 the band was Paul, Gene, Peter Criss(drums) and Ace Frehley(guitar). Peter left and Eric Carr joined in 1980 Eric Carr died from heart cancer in 1991 and was replaced with Eric Singer. Ace left in 1982 and Vinnie Vincent joined, Vinnie then left in 1984 and Mark st. John left(medical reasons) in 1985 and Bruce Kulic joined Bruce stayed until they reunited with the original members in 1997. Also, From 1973-1984 they did not allow themselves to be photographed without the makeup. They took the makeup of in '83 before the "Lick it Up" album. They put the makeup back on in 1997 when they did a reunion tour. They currently tour in full makeup and stage show with Paul, Gene, Tommy Thayer(guitar- wearing Ace makeup) and Eric Singer(drums- wearing Peter's makeup)
The band in the "forever" video is Paul, Gene, Bruce Kulick(guitar) and the awesome Eric Carr on drums(his last time appearing with the band before passing away, he begged the doctors to let leave the hospital to record this video)
That said all music you see of the band without makeup is from the 80's.
