- An aviation vid now transfered from an old VHS tape, so apologies for the poorer quality pics & sound. It dates from 1987 and features Concorde pilot Cpt John Hutchinson. He flies into to the then un-opened London City Airport on board a Dash 7 to showcase the new airport. There is also an interview with an airline executive re the use of BA146 aircraft as well as the Dash 7 at the airport. As well as shots on the ground there are some from the cockpit of the Dash 7 on its approach to the airport. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!
Love City Airport. Flown in and out several times.
One i have yet to try......
The late great Mike Smith. He presented BBC television Railwatch also.
I think he must have been a bit of an enthusiast then........Plus i didn't realise he had died, very sad at such a young age.
Agreed.
Nice! I went on the DLR on its first day of operation in '87, weird to see docklands back then compared to now eh.
I used to live in east London and remember the Royal Albert Dock very well, a turning point for the 101 & 147 bus routes. Back in the 1970s the docks were just about still open and the area was full of prefabs and little 2 up/2 down houses. By the late 70s dereliction had set in and the place was almost a ghost town (apart from North Woolwich are which was still occupied). So, yes by the late 80s things were on the move and today it can be hard to recognise the places i grew up in!
Remind me of the dash seven that I flew in nineteen eighty three.
Love this video. Lovely to see some of Captain Hutchinson's work with the BBC. If you want to know more about him, check out the interview our channel did with Captain John Hutchinson very recently.
