  • Hosting Shabbat Dinner// Halte Bahsh // Halte Svo// Oxtails// franks in blanks// Biscoff
It’s been so nice hosting Shabbat again after not doing so for months because of everything that’s been going on in the world. Hope this video bring some inspiration to your Shabbat table!
    Green rice/Bahsh:
    2-3 cups short grain rice
Large palm full of diced meat
    1 onion diced
    3 bunches of cilantro diced
    1 bunch of dill diced
    1/2 cup of oil
    1 tbsp salt
    1 tbsp chicken consome
    Pepper
    Turmeric
    1 tsp cumin
    1 tsp coriander
Cook in steamer for 4 hours.
    Halte Svo:
    2 cups of rice

    1 plum diced
    1/2 cup of black raisins
    1/2 cup of oil
    1 tbsp of Salt
    1 tbsp chicken consome
I time it that the halte Svo is in the steamer 3-4 hours before Shabbat starts. Then, once Shabbat starts I put the steamer on a hot plate to continue cooking all night until lunch time.Eggs, potatoes and sweet potatoes may be added to the steamer with the halte Svo, to be enjoyed with at lunch time.
    Roasted Veal:
    S/p
    Montreal steak seasoning
    Garlic powder
    Kabob spice
    Paprika
    Cumin
    Coriander
    Oil
Baked covered at 400F for 3 hours
    Salads:
    Purple cabbage salad:
    Shredded half of purple cabbage
    1 red onion thinly sliced
1 cucumber sliced in half moon shapes
    Different colored peppers
    S/p
    Garlic
    Oil
    Sugar
    Pickled cucumbers:
    4 sliced cucumbers
    1/2 red onion thinly sliced
    Vinegar
    S/p
    Sugar
    Oil
    Carrot and beet salad:
Shred carrot and beet with a mandolin slicer. Season with s/p, sugar, garlic and oil.

If you place a folded damp paper towel under your cutting board...it will keep it from sliding around while you are chopping and prepping. My chef husband taught me that life saving trick, and it works like a charm!

We do franks in the Pillsbury crescent dough or biscuit dough. We also have used the little smokies sausage, little sausages with bbq sauce. These are little snacks we have during Mardi Gras parades. I'm going to try it with the puffed pastries. It's a good idea. Have a good week.

@@fordmusclecar I think depending on the tipe of rice. But if you soak the rice in water for half hour it needs less wile cooking and comes out more losse, no stering wile cooking is a must i use to ster the rice with a spoon and my grandmother told me no to do it until the rice is finished because losse steam an that trap moisture the one that makes it soft .

I do most of my preps and marination on Thursday nights while my kids are sleeping.
Friday’s I make my salads and finish all my meals by baking them in the oven.

Hi Sonya, love your videos! I have a q- u cook the halti svo for 2 hours on each side on high then u put on low until shabat lunch? Also, what size bag do u have- they have small, medium and large. I assume the medium is the standard size?

    • @SonyasPrep
      @SonyasPrep  3 года назад +2

      Hi Margarita, Tysm.
I place the halte Svo on the stove 3-4 hours b4 Shabbat on a medium high flame. The flame has to be high enough that there is a slight boil to the water. When Shabbat starts I just place the steamer on my hot plate and let it cook all night.
The bags that I have were given to me by my mom. I tried my best to look for a very similar bag on line and linked the ones that matched best to what I have. The dimensions of my bag are 10x13 so for my family the MEDIUM is great.

Hi Yaffa. I time it that the halte Svo is in the steamer 3-4 hours before Shabbat. Once Shabbat starts I place the steamer on the hot plate and it continues to cook all night until lunch time.
So no, I dont take it out before Shabbat. I place eggs and potatoes into the steamer with the halte Svo and it cooks all night on a hot plate.

I have question: When do your girls actively help you so they are also training to prepare the meals the Jewish way? I know we helped our mothers in learning how to cook, was wondering when your girls will start their- Mahalo for your time

As always your food looks delicious. I usually find your videos so soothing, but this time the music was rather overwhelming, and detracted from the video itself.

I just genuinely want to ask
Sunbath i think as far as i searched it's a religious practice for mental peace
Would eating non veg dead food , Killing a vulnerable animal for your food would aid you in attaining mental peace
    Please someone reply to it
Hoping for a meaningful reply 😅
