My kids ( 4 and 7 year old boys) and I played this every day after school. Every day id have it open and ready for the three of us to sit down with some snacks and drinks and play this game together. Easily the best part of my day, and I hope that they remember the joy that we had playing this together.

One thing that I’ll say about this game is you can’t appreciate the full experience by just watching gameplay. The Dualsense interactions are what make this game feel next level. (Haptics, speaker, motion, etc) it really adds to the enjoyment of the game.

Facts this is why I don't see this getting ported, its a great ps5 game, it's like when super Mario Odyssey came out it was great for the switch but with emulation it's just not it as some controls are not working as it used to.

Faaaaaaaaaaaaacts! I found It's actually slightly easier to play when you turn the volume off from the TV and just have the dualsense doing its thing. The TV just outputs the music.

Honesty Astro bot getting game of the year doesn't bother me because it feels like an old fashioned game, its just a game that you just mess around and have fun. Its a good reminder of what the essence of a game is.

a problem so many people, and mostly males have is enjoying something that is not socialy accepted in their bubble. astro bot is a fantastic video game and you are allowed to enjoy the game and its music. this is such a male problem, only listening to certain music, watching very specific types of genres and play only very accepted games. i am glad he enjoys it but he is still very reserved when it comes to expressing how he actually feels about his experience or even worse he doesnt even realise what he is experiencing. there is not a second he had with this game that he didnt enjoy. i think he is starting to open more up to be unchained by bias. and i want to make it clear that if you dont like astro bot that is fine. just ask yourself do you truly not like it or do you just dont give it a try and be honest with yourself about it. so many young man are bound by peer pressure
People also need to remember that gaming isn't just for people in their 30's, (which is where I see most of the crying from - especially regarding the constant Black Myth Wukong and Mario comparisons) there are many kids who will be new/early into gaming and Astro Bot is the perfect capsule of fun and an introduction to characters. Also doesn't hurt that if they were to strip the PS branding from Astro it would still be a fantastic platformer.
Its a problem until high-school ends. As an adult male outside that environment, no one cares what you enjoy except you

I can’t lie, didn’t really hear about Astro bro until the game awards. Watching the gameplay is really rekindling the feelings I got for 3D platformers I felt when I was younger. You can really see the creativity and passion put into the game.

Definitely GOTY, my daughter and I got the platinum on this, playing every day after school. Pure fun. She is only 6 and watching her competence build on this game was a thing of beauty. Asmon’s heart grew two sizes.
You have no idea how important such memories are early on. My parents played games my entire childhood with me every evening.
When i was a toddler my parents put me between their legs while they played OoT, SM64, Banjo-Kazooie and some other games i barely remember. I remember most parts of these games for some reason, the nostalgia i have for them is crazy and i recently played them for the first time.
The first one that i activly played with my parents was Super Mario Sunshine, when i was 4-5 years old. After that i played any console game you can imagine with my parents.
Such good times and Astro Bot brought all of these memories right back. I hope you had an amazing time with your daughter and i also hope your daughter will treasure those memories like i did.

Zelda is a big game with lot of innovation, it takes two creates 2 players genre. While astrobot only absorb the good points of generations of Mario and focus on controller. This is not fair to Nintendo, other people just copy Mario and become GOTY.
Obviously, they originally planned to give it to concord but didn't expect concord die so fast.
Astrobot sounds like an absolute gem. It's Refresh to see a game that's pure fun and joy, even if it's a tad on the short side.

I mean the polish, the inventiveness, the sound design, the animations, the fact that its basically one loooong easter egg the plays fantastically for a platformer, the fact that the devs weren't scared of making a fantastic mechanic then just using it a couple of times and throwing it out then thinking up ANOTHER fantastic mechanic...

I've been confused as hell as to why people are throwing such a tantrum over this game winning. This game just happened to be the highest rated amongst the most categories, without any game breaking 0-day bugs, wierd DEI drama, developer shenanigans, etc to bring the score down.

This is an absolutely amazing first experience into videogames for many young kids. Stuff like this needs to be out there to bring up the new generation with good childhood memories of gaming. Deserves GOTY for the impact it will have over a generation of young gamers.

But let’s not forget that there are games that can actually create lasting memories for kids, just like the ones we had when we were growing up. So, Astrobot winning is totally deserved in my personal opinion!

@@keshita2527 Your logic is flawed animal crossing is a niche, the same goes for overcooked 2. Astro bot is its own genre, the closest thing you can compare it to is the marioware games. It's about the solo adventure, It's one of a kind type of thing that screams good childhood game and at the same time its structured in a way adults would have a blast playing it at the same time.
Comparing Overcooked to Astrobot is like comparing apples to oranges. Sure, Mario Odyssey is a fun game, but remember Zelda Breath of the Wild won Game of the Year in 2017. And let’s not forget that part of what makes a game Game of the Year is how unique and well-executed its ideas are. In a world where every game seems to be a souls-like wannabe or a game as a service, it’s refreshing to find a game that’s just pure fun with basic platform mechanics and creative mechanics that utilize the full features of the system it comes on and nothing more.
That in itself is an achievement by the developers’ hard work and should be celebrated, but again, that’s just my opinion. You’re not forced to agree with me.
This is the essence of what a game is. Takes me back to the times when gaming was a HOBBY, not a job.

My daughter who is 16 months old is bringing the controller for me to play so she can watch me play. I love that I can bond with her over something so simple and fun. Easily one of the best games that has an impact at any age. That’s what gaming is about, having fun, and if we want better games in the future we got to raise a generation of gamers ❤

I went to my local store to pick up Space Marine 2 a few days after launch. They had sold out, but I wanted something new to play. Picked up Astro Bot and adored every moment.
Black Myth Wukong did also not reinvent the wheel and people treat it like a godlike game. No it is just good. Just like Astro Bot. Both games are the best in 2024 in their genre, that simple.
Nintendo is not the only one who is allowed to make platformers.

Man...the character development of Asmongold throughout this 3hr trip was truly amazing!!! He started as very skeptical, toxic, highly critical, and antagonistic.....later became joyful, peaceful and having fun.........to being appreciative, supportful and happy! That's what games are about! You just gotta ATLEAST try it to like it ;)

Also Nintendo isn't innocent when it comes to "Copying" the competition either. Mario Galaxy is a full blown "Rip Off", if we want to put it that way 😑, of 1 or 2 levels in Sonic Adventure 2 and basically a whole bunch of "Side" Levels and Content from the PS2 Era Ratchet & Clank games.

So much salt in these comments. Astrobot deserved GOTY. It’s the highest rated game of 2024 both user score and metascore. BMW is a decent game but it did not deserve to be nominated.
BMW did deserve to be nominated and I would think it was OK if it won but... When was the last time you saw Asmon ACTUALLY gaming and enjoying it with a stupid smile on his face?
Many people might not accept it but that's why Astrobot won GOTY.

A Chocolate Bar Review Channel here. This game was such a blast to play. Platformers when done right can really take me away into their world. The colors, aesthetic, and levels were all just full of charm. It is just an over all fun experience!

This would be most people’s experience if they actually gave the game a chance instead of just blindly hating on it. You can’t not have a good time playing Astro Bot and this is exactly why it won game of the year. It’s the best game I’ve played in recent years and it’s not really close.

While it is kid themed some of the challenge levels I wouldn’t have been able to do at 6-9 years old, that’s where I find the fun at nearly 30 years old, mechanical mastery like Gran Turismo, although the bubbly happy tone of the game is a huge breath of fresh air comparative to the contemporary GOTY’s.
Okay I for one am glad this got GOTY, the reason being is it's just a fun game, nothing crazy not too long and you can easily pick it up and drop it.
We need a return to these games, it's all about the fun experience rather than the 20 hour long film thats just about graphics and combat.
Next year, China will create a robot like game, and TGA will say that the fun of the game lies in the open world GTA6

Same. I never watched a full stream of asmon. And I watch the 2 astro streams. I also watched DanTDM since I dont have a ps5. I’m genuinely curious as well. But even just watching this game, I can see why this won GOTY. Haters are just bunch of cry babies. I am getting tired of the souls genre since i think we already reached the peak of that genre with Elden Ring. This game is refreshing and fun. Not repetitive. Well deserved GOTY for me.

Astro Bot is being hated for no reason, sooo underrated even if it got GOTY. Game is a absolute blast and i fkin love how simple it is. Hope they put on some efforts for a second or even a third part of it.
Astro's Playroom was the first game my niece played. It was really cool seeing her have so much fun. We need more games like this.... movies too, remember Spy Kids, Cheaper By the Dozen, The Sandlot? They don't make family friendly movies like that anymore

No, after playing Astrobot he still think Wukong is GOTY. Astrobot is good, but not good enough. There are so many fun game there especially games from Nintendo and they only get one GOTY （zelda， breath of the wild）. Here you can see the standard of TGA is changing aka double standard.

@@kakaxifx4913 The criteria you listed only outline a few factors that make goty. Both great in their genre, both nothing crazy original. Both executed well. Astro bot is at least just as good of a game as Wukong. Whether you think one is better than the other is probably your preference of genre and theme. I don’t think RUclipsrs predictions hold much weight, either. They get things wrong frequently.

Japan Studio/team Asobi is a co-developer of Bloodborne so I am not surprised that they won a GOTY.

Wukong is a great game but didn't really do anything unusual, typical action game with boss fights and good fidelity .. Astro Bot is special and deserved GOTY

You have to play it to understand why its GOTY. The control feeling is next gen vibes. You can feel everything and it feels great! Game also has zero bugs and is just pure clean fun.

I love Astro bot it's so much me and my 4 year old daughter beat the game and will never forget how much fun we had. Growing up for me it was Mario. for her it's Astro bot to be honest Astro bot is the most fun I've had with a video game in along time.
