Thanks so much for doing a demo with cleans and using a single coiled guitar. As much as we all love Eddie, we're not all playing that on his amps.
Great review! Definitely considering one of these now.
I think its a very versatile and great sounding amp Mr F Blues!! 1/4 tone switch, noise gate. emulated outs....loads of cool features. and killer tone!
Damon love yourr reviews your style gets my attention right away. Loved the Mustang amp reviews some years back. Good to see you again keep up the great work sir!
Blimey!!! Blast from the past! That was in my previous role as product specialist for Fender GBI. If only i had the views that some of those vids got😆😆 Thanks for watching dude.
Wow!!!! What a great review & it's the best demonstration of a clean channel on an amp that I've seen👏👏👏👏
Damon your playing is absolutely dynamite.
I was very impressed by the sound you got from the Gretsch .
What a great amp!!!!
Can't wait for the next vid in this review
Thanks dude. I think you can see the look on my face e when I plugged the Gretsch in😆😆😆😆🎸🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶
😀😀😀😀sounds great,top playing like always🙂👊
Thanks duuuuuude....great sounding amp man.
Nice job Damon! Thanks
Thanks James. Smokin ‘ tones from this !
New subscriber. Hope you make more content. This video was really cool as I have been thinking about getting one of these. - Thanks so much!
Thanks mate. Plenty more where that came from.
Great playing and video
Thank you so much. 😊 🎸😎
Got my combo last week and it’s killer. The clean channel is surprisingly good but I didn’t buy it for the cleans. The cabinet design is top notch. It doesn’t sound like a typical 1x12, it sounds much larger. The speaker is good so far as well even though I’m seeing guys changing them. I’m leaving mine in for now.
Hi Carlo....I have seen people chage the speaker, but I,m leting this one wear in a little! Glad you like it...the drive channel is killer.
I’ve got one too. Changed the speaker to a NEO Creamback and I use a Boss EQ to give it a little more low end but I love it!! Cheers
H Alexander. Has the creamback changed for tonal reasonsor was that just a weight issue? I thought the bottom end was fairly chunky with the resonance control, so that sinteresting waht you say. I use a GE7 all the time for tone shaping, such a useful pedal. Thanks for watching and interesting comments.
@@damonthegnomeoftonechivers tone is a personal thing so, to my ears, the speaker just didn’t cut it for me. A little fizzy and less refined, the new speaker really enhances both channels. Maybe the native speaker just needed to be broken in but, nonetheless, the Neo weight is definitely a plus too.
@@Smart-Alex now you’ve got me thinking 🤔😁🎸
Another great video man. I just got one of these yesterday...big reason was the clean channel,, i'm running a Keely comp. and a tumnus in front of it...wow!!! Channel 2,,goes without sayin'......peace.
Hi Shawn....very cool. I have an old Keeley comp, love them. I went from a Tumnus to a Jhs modded Soul Food, same thing really, great to fatten the upper kids and cut through a mix. Glad you like the amp. I spoke to James who designed it and they spent a huge amount of time on that clean channel, so it’s really cool that you appreciate it. Thanks for watching.🎸🎶
best 5150 video on youtube
Thanks dude! You are very kind🎶👍🎸
Wow
In a good way?
I think that pedal was distorting in the loop or something. There's something weird going on in the tone.
I just bought this amp. I was concerned about it's versatility. You put that to rest. Looking forward to getting it and trying it out. But after much research I think I came to the same conclusion as you regarding how this has the capability to be great bang for the buck amp.
It really is. Liked a Hot Rd Deluxe with a better lead channel, and a noise gate, and a 1/4 power switch.
Does your 5150 have a really wild difference in volume between the clean and overdrive? I tried two different 5150s in Guitar Center yesterday and clicking the overdrive button multiplied my volume by at leasy 3 (probably 4) on both of them.
Yes. That is true.
@@damonthegnomeoftonechivers Thank you for the response! I think I'm going to get this amp soon, it's good to know that what I'm getting isn't broken!
Great playing!!👍 I really liked the Gibson Sounds especially..What pickups are in your Les Paul? Thanks Damon, 😎 Russell Frazier 😁
Hi Russel. Thanks dude! Its a Custom Shop 60 , so I believe they are Custom Buckers?
@@damonthegnomeoftonechivers Thank you for the quick response Damon, I especially loved the middle pickup setting it kind of had that Jimmy Page Song Remains the Same movie sound! thanks again for the great demo the amp is superb!! They are a nice marriage!
Nice review! At the 7:35* minute mark, were you using any pedals or was that just guitar to the amp?
Hi dude, That is just amp. You can hear some compression coming from the Warm Audio LA2a clone that I use ( it's in the rack).
@@damonthegnomeoftonechivers thanks for the awesome demos. I ended up picking up the amp last weekend! Love it.
@@guitarsupervillain Good stuff dude. It's a very cool, and super versatile. Enjoy!
I have the evh 5150 15 watt stealth and it’s great at low volumes even for high gain. What’s this one like at low volumes?
It's really good. it has a 1/4 power switch on the back.
@@damonthegnomeoftonechivers Andertons video said this was not a good amp for bedroom volumes. As I said my evh stealth is really good with no loss of tone even on high gain settings at its 7 watt setting, whilst my Marshall dsl 1 watt head is absolutely too loud at .01 watt????? Go figure evh fender have something near to sorcery going on with their amps.
I like the look of the top mount controls.
But I think this means the tubes are hard to get at.
DO you think you have to remove the chassis to get at the tubes?
I’ve not yet it’s but I’ll have a look
9:05 thats the stuff!
Cheers mate. Much appreciated
Sounds absolutely killer 😍! Reckon it's useable at apartment volume on 1/4 power?
yes mate absolutely. The attenuation is really very good. And doesn't suck the tone!!!
@@damonthegnomeoftonechivers Thank you! 🙏
Would've been a 10/10 video had you given those amp settings.
Damn..:::next Time?
14:36. red RG. love it. Sounds better than the Strat! oooh. Ibanez takes it. ps: I play both an 83 RG and a 2002 Strat.
That RG is amazing . It has really fat coil tapped pickups.
I keep coming back to this demo as a way to rationalize this amp for me. I'm trying to find a way to get the beautiful cleans of something like a Princeton or Pro Reverb, but also be able to do my hard rock/Van Halen noodlings-all at low volumes while i mess around in front of the tv.... This video gives me some confidence, but can it do the kind of tones at the beginning of this demo?

I have a feeling the Iconic cleans are 'good for a metal amp,' but not in this category. But, i have to decide on which compromise to make-an Iconic with 80% happymaking cleans and 95% Brown Sound... vs a little classic Fender combo for 95% happymaking cleans and 20%/cruddy brown sound (via a pedal). Your expert opinion, sir?
Your pretty much spot on mate! The drive tones are obviously amazingly good. But I spoke to James who designed the amp and they really wanted to draw from fender’s heritage of clean amps. It’s not a 65 Deluxe, but it is very good, and very usable.
@@damonthegnomeoftonechivers Thank you, sir. I will have one this Friday. One more question, though-I’ve seen comments that the reverb is the worst part of the amp. I think I saw you are using a Fender something or other on top of the amp. Reflecting Pool? Is that for reverbs or delay? Is a separate pedal necessary to make the cleans sound ‘luxe?’ I was thinking of getting the Boss RV-6 for that-spring for my classic vintage clean stuff and plate for VH? I can’t justify the Reflecting Pool for this amp. I have the Golden Reverberator on my Kemper setup and hope I can do something cheaper for the amp. Delay would be handled by a DD-200 or Keeley Halo.
I didn’t like the reverb and use the Boss RV-6 on mine and I love it!
@@edwardskol1812 Thanks, Edward. I tried the 15w in a shop and hated it. Tried to try the 40w, but neither i nor the salesperson could get it to make any sound whatsoever. So, i ended up pivoting to a Fender Deluxe Reverb, with a 5150 pedal. I also got the Boss RV-6 for its Plate Reverb for my VH noodlings.
Does sounds like Iconic has better cleans than 5150III? I mean it has reverb and made by Fender.... so basically Fender Deluxe Reverb on drugs? 😂
Not far off 😜I know the r&d team spent a lot of time on the cleans, they told me so. It’s 6l6, rather than the plummy delish nature of the Deluxe 6v6, a,d digital rather than spring reverb, but considering how good the drives are, the clean is pretty spanking 👍🎶
No way.. Are you playing an old Ibanez Roadstar??
Certainly am dude
Sounds like my hotrod. I use an EVH overdrive and it is pretty close. Drive on hotrod is a waste
Everyone knows that. Always has been. Bit a killer pedal platform amp!

Clean starts!
You might as well be playing offender regular twin verb app. You haven’t really demonstrated what all the same can do.
There are other demos showing the drive channels and boost on the clean,, Check those out if you want to see the more overdriven tones.
