Good to see your pond is settling down good for you, Terry. Good move on using the extra filter with your pump and switching to the air pipe. I prefer the air pipe, because even if they get clogged, a solid blast of air gets the going again. Seems that improvising works a lot better than the best made plans. Thanks.

Hi Terry, I'm enlarging my pond and putting in a bottom drain for the first time, my setup will be much like yours as in a pump drawing water from the dottom drain in to my multi camber filter. To be honest I didn't know this was possibly until seeing your videos how do you get water to the pump to prime it, also did you run 3 inch pipe straight from the bottom drain or did you have some 4 inch then reduce it. You made a good job of that new pond Terry. I'd be interested to see a video incorporating the pressure pump being cleaned when your flow starts to drop off. Especially when the other basket seemed to block so quickly. Sit back now and reap the rewards of your hard work..
Thank you, I left the pressure filter a month and didn't get any loss of flow but thought I should give it a clean. There was debris in it but I just got the hose and gave it a good wash out. Put it back together again and away It went. I will put the cleaning of it in my next video. Thanks again. Terry

Pond Looks Great. like the modifications. Notice the sieve filter is gone because of the leaf basket issue, I presume. i got two Ideas to bounce of you. First the skimmer, I believe this is deeper than the first one you made, could you make a deeper basket cut out the bottom maybe attach a mesh bag for the heavy leaf load periods. second on the two drain lines coming off the pond run the into a settlement tank sunk in the ground plumbed to the lower part of the tank put in some media and pull the water from above the media, that way the waste is not broke down by negative pressure. cleaning would be rinse the media and hover out the settlement tank. PS I am working on putting a sieve filter in the top barrel, still some time away if it works i will post a video.
Hi Robert, Thank you for your kind comments. Yes you could add a settlement tank, but wouldn't that be a similar thing to adding a vortex tub to the front of the filter. Wouldn't that have a similar effect? You could add a larger net basket to the skimmer , that's a good idea. In fact you could use a fish capture net that was nice and deep and fit that to the skimmer. Sounds good to me. I am unable to get my Pre-filter in as my system is now in a shed and I don't have the room above the tubs to fit it. The pressure filter seems to be doing a similar job though. Very Good I have 35000 litter ponds with a 6 foot waterfall because its in the open air water get murky too quick I have an Oase 1600 pressure filter with UV lights not working very well. Hi sats, I must say it a major improvement. I'm using the same amount of air and getting twice the movement on the media. Don't go all the way across the tub with the pipe, about two thirds. Terry.

Sadly I found your videos only a couple of days after buying a Nexus which is great but I could have saved myself a fortune buying your plans and building the filter myself. Never mind, least I know for next time. Can I just ask a quick question I've got my pond aerators plus the air from bottom drain running 24/7 should I only be having these on every few hours like you do? Just worrying that I'm now aerating pond too much? Gav
Hi Gav, Thank you for your kind comments. Your fine, you can't over aerate a pond. If the weather is hot I have mine on 24/7. but on a normal day I use the timer as it does save money running for 8 hours as apposed to 24. You also need the air on more if you have a heavy fish load on the pond. Now your running the Nexus the water returning back to the pond will also be well aerated. Hope this helps. I have just watched,all of your vids,building the new pond,i never knew there was so much work involved, in keeping koi,i cant see that being a cheap hobby,but must say,you have done a grand job,it looks beautiful, ....i saw that other vid,where you ordered some pond plant's, they ripped you off wrighty,..i have 2 wildlife ponds, (small) ,i always go and look at the pond plants i buy...ordering online is fine for some things,but i would never order living plants,....did they pick up?..or is it to early to say...thanks for sharing .

Have you ever had any problems with water leaks or cracked pipes underground? can imagine that would be a nightmare to repair. Love the setup by the way.
Hi and thank you, I always use 9 bar solvent weld 3 inch pvc pipe for any underground work and have never had a problem. It does cost more but I'm a big believer in, you get what you pay for. Thanks, Terry.

I'm surprised your pond skimmer doesn't remove the debris that was clogging your pump filter. Why doesn't it ? Is it because the screen in the pond skimmer is a larger holed screen ? Thanks for another great video on 'how to' .
Hi, Thank you. When designing the pond, it should have done. But what I didn't take into account was the 2 x 8 inch air stones circulating the pond water and sinking debris and pushing it towards the bottom drain. Also some of my koi are quite large and produce quite large waste. It is a bit of a poor design with that pump basket as where the pump draws the water through the basket it blocks in that one small area. They are a good pump but I think they may be swimming pool pumps sold as pond pumps, I don't know. Thanks again, Terry.
