    Always enjoy your vids! A surprise for me one season was to find offspring of the spring spawn living in my backwash holding tank. Dunno how they got on without light, food and water flow, but they did! To reward their journey, they were moved back to where they came from, my pond. Pond work for me is always an enjoyment as it keeps a pattern of planning, hope, patience and surprise.

    Hi Terry, wish it was spring mate, put a video up a couple of weeks ago, declaring spring had arrived in
    my garden, thinking about putting another one out retracting that statement, because winter is back, bloody freezing with a constant northeasterly wind!!!
    I used to fall into that trap, thinking new year, spring on the way, but have now revised my thinking, I now wait for six nations rugby, USA open golf in Augusta, grand national, boat race, maybe even snooker world championship, then I allow myself to think spring is here!!! 😁.
    Jobs to do, maybe upping my pump to 30000.
    Have a great season Terry.

    Hi terry…
    it’s funny that you would talk about pieces of frog being in your pond filter system…
    MY POND FITER BOX WAS SO FULL of lil green frog pieces that it took me a month to get things back to being right, this has never happened to me in the 5yrs that I’ve had this pond up & running???
    I also agree with you ,the frogs were probably chewed up by the pump while they were in a hibernation state or cold & stiff 💁🏼,there’s a regular farm pond that’s about two properties over (400ft /500ft away) it’s about 10Xs bigger than my 3500 gallon decorative pond (they don’t do anything with there pond) & I know that’s were they came from…I even have 2 nets doubled together on top of my pond & chicken wire with bamboo slats around the pond yard to keep these lil green frogs out & they still some how seam to get in my pond…there a really big pain in the bum as we both know!!!
    Hopefully we can both keep on top or knock out this problem in the future if it happens again!?
    Stay safe …
    Hi to the wife!!!
    Regards Deb!

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  Год назад

      Hi Deb, good to hear from you. I hope all's well with you and your family. We have a land drain at the bottom of our garden, about 30ft from our fence which has a load of frogs in it,. The real problem is that, in the winter and the cold sets in, the fish in the rivers go to the bottom of the river and the herons cant feed, they come to the drain, to feed on the frogs. So, I not only get frogs, I also get the herons flying over. Good thing I cover my pond in the winter. A frog will find the smallest of holes to get through, and they can also squeeze through a net as they do on my pond, if they get into the garden. I have the problem all summer as well which is a bit frustrating 🤔🤔 the trouble with dead frogs in the pond is that it can cause bacterial problems as you'll know.
      Thanks for the comment Deb, you take care and stay safe, Terry. PS, the wife says Hi! 😉

    Hi Terry great to see you back and cracking info as usual. I have a big blue for the pond top ups but I'm interested in the dechlorinator solution that you've made. How do you actually use the solution once made, add that to the pond and then top up with tap water, or is each volume of solution for a measured amount of tap water. Thanks and take care

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  Год назад +1

      Hi Andy, and thank you mate. My pond top up is on my pond return. So I usually drop it in with the new top up water as it goes back to the pond. It will all get mixed up as it goes through the pipes and into the pond. Those 3 canister dechlorinators don't remove all the chlorine, so this will help remove any that's left in the water. Thanks again mate, take care, Terry.

    Terry KOI do not freeze unless you put them in the freezer lol please do your research don't give out fake news. Oh, I forgot I kept KOI 20 years or so and never heated the pond, the truth is you should always give your KOI a real rest, they live longer.

    • @AMGINE1000
      @AMGINE1000 Год назад +1

      I think most serous Koi keepers like Terry know that Ponds don’t really need heating the real reason they heat their ponds is because of the poor weather conditions in the UK, Koi don’t like unstable temperature changes that’s what can stress Koi/Fish out. so, if you have the budget why not heat your pond to take the everchanging temp fluctuation away.and from a hardware point (Filters & Pipes) you dont have pipes freezing and bursting over the winter months causing head aches in a season you cannot repair in.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  Год назад +1

      That's your opinion Chris, and I have mine. But before you start accusing me of fake news, maybe you should do a little research mate. By the way, I'm 70 and had koi most of my life. Any thing below 4c and your koi are in survival mode.
      Here's a quote I've just found from a professional koi breeder.
      At 10c STOP feeding your fish, even if they are looking for food. The lowest temperature that your Koi can comfortably survive in is 4c. Any lower than this temperature and the weaker Koi may start to develop internal problems that they may never recover from. At 1c your fish will start to die.

    Lol says you can’t buy a decent koi for 105 pounds, then looking at your koi you must have bought all of them for 105 cause they are nothing special really..
