From talking to some Korean friends and acquaintances, there is a strong class system bordering on a caste system in Korea. The older generation also treat the younger badly and demand a lot. Context:
Korean students spend at least 10 hours a day on school plus studying most don’t get home until 9 or 10 pm cause they go to study classes. Your whole life when you are a teenager is to to get a good grade on the college exam. What is the college exam? It’s an exam seniors take to determine if they can go to college or not right after high school. If they fail it they have to wait a whole year to retake it again. That’s why parents are so hard on their kids about studying cause their whole life is basically up to that exam. If you get better than average on that exam you will get in top schools and with those top schools basically your life will be better as people will treat you better. Looks is also a major thing in life. It’s basically pretty privilege. That’s why plastic surgery is such a big thing in Korea. You will get treated better for being pretty. You could have bigger grades and be better at a job than others but there’s a chance you won’t get it simply because you are not good looking. Also the majority of jobs now require a picture of yourself on your resume. You could literally get rejected simply if they look that your picture. The country is also very misogynistic in the business world as if you are a woman you would have to work even harder to get treated with respect and your boss and male colleges sometimes would just say to quit and just get married and becomes house wife. There is a very strong class system as well. You have to have respect for the people older than you even if they treat your horribly

I was a teacher in Korea. Studying was a farce. Just busy work. Those poor kids. I actually had my degree in education which a lot of foreign teachers don't. I would give the kids opportunities to get up and be active as a reward for answering homework correctly and do fun little dances for learning. Didn't take long before the creepy hagwon owner was spying through the door and told me to stop. I even made learning games and we propped up tables against each other to play a Battleship grammar game to keep the other child's desk hidden. One of my students was wiggling around with the table horizontal to him (table flipped up and legs on either side of him) and got in trouble because I was being spied on on camera and it "looked sexual." The kid was like 6.

Not a lot of people can be satisfied with their lives in a society that forces you to never be satisfied. The last one has a good point and also a bad point. It depends on the person and the struggles. For example, if the struggles are like some of the first people said (school/work system, problems with special structures in the Korean system in general), these struggles _will_ go away if they leave the system (as long as they don't go to a country with a very similar system).
But if the problems are in yourself, they won't go away with a change of place. And in a lot of cases people aren't that aware of their inner struggles and think it's something in the outside - in their environment. And after changing the environment they'll register they're still unhappy. So it's important to remember: "Will a change in environment _really_ make me happy or am I (for example) overtaxed with everything in my daily life because in reality I'm overtaxed with myself?"
And then there are cases where both is true. So if you're already fighting with yourself and the environment where you're living in makes it even harder, it's an option to leave. It won't solve _everything_ but it'll solve a part of it.

There simply is not enough room in universities/housing/companies. Meanwhile the provinces are full of ghost towns. More young Koreans should consider moving to the provinces to even out the country. She never seemed to think of them as anything special, perhaps even lacking.

That's what I got from her brief comments, don't know if that's her full POV but this is only my perspective.

I think no matter what country you live in, the imbalance of treatment based on "class" will always exist, not only a matter of 'class' which concerns education, social status or family background, but also includes a matter of compatibility in personality, connections and the 'flaws' you have both physically and mentally. Privileges will always exist, no matter how small it is for certain people. Humans will find it difficult to feel "satisfied" in life. Because there will always be times when you are stuck in circumstances and feel jealous of the lives of other people who you think are 'successful' even though you are don't really know how they get through their lives.
I'm in my late 20s, someone who is part of the 'sandwich Gen' who has to send my siblings to school and feed my entire family with wages that are still below the minimum wage. There are some that I am grateful for and some that frustrate me. I thought maybe other countries would be better, but after contemplating it all looks the same when you taste it yourself.

But when it's opposite then it's gonna be hard living there. Also, conservative mindset, male dominance, toxic beauty standards, pressure of studying, high competition, unsatisfactory income, the senior junior system, bullying, no good protection laws (specially for women) etc etc... Is what makes it hard living in Korea. What we see in kpop and kdramas isn't actually the Korea. No! It's not a fantasy perfect country. Every country or place has it's own pros and cons of living.

But I think it's important because to get a good and rich life in future. 9th to 12th class you have to study hard because these year can decide our future. So I think that's good for students to study much. I also study too much and I am topper of my class. Even in India it is also difficult to get job you have to struggle alot. Ya these 4 -5 years are difficult for us but this 4-5years hard work can give us delicious fruit in future. My English is not so good because I learn English by myself and I am in 9th class. If the problem is within the person themselves ofc moving abroad won't change, but it is true that the intense system in Soukor put a toll on the young people there, they have highest su*cide rate for a reason. Moving away can be an answer if those people just wish to live without having to fight for life trying to get into good college bcs getting into a normal ones will make ppl treat them differently. Not to mention, soukor is leading when it comes to lookism, some people just wanna relax in a country where people are more lenient and don't expect them to look perfect 24/7.
This comes from someone who was not satisfied with the previous country she lived in and is very happy and satisfied in the new country she moved to. So it is not " if you aren't satisfied here, you DEFINITELY won't be satisfied anywhere" bcs it depends on whether the problem is the person themselves or the environment

I am a Nigerian. Nigeria's education system is different.
Here, those rankings don't matter alot. The only issue here is the gap between government financed schools and the private ones. If you schooled in a government school, they're prone to going on strikes because sometimes the government owes the staffs salaries or fundings and other issues like that. The strikes could run for months, which in turn increases the number of years you spend in school. Private schools don't have this issue, but are notably know for being extra expensive, which in turn means that people from middle/low income families can't afford them.
So in general, if you schooled in a public institution (government financed) you're likely to spend extra 1-2 two years in school because of the strikes. Private schools don't have this issue.
Employers don't discriminate though, but there's usually a age limit on some jobs. But usually, you get the same chances to opportunities.
