Hello Josh, Thank you for doing this. I am an owner operator of a dump truck with a C10. Your videos and information have been a tremendous help. Congratulations on you new addition to your family.
very useful videos Josh, I can't get proper knowledge on how repair these engines here in Pakistan and your videos are very helpful. I aspire to work for cat as a Diesel technician.
im glad i stumbled onto your channel! you make some awesome videos!. im not a heavy truck mechanic, i just work on cars and light trucks etc, but i love watching and learning about them anyway. really looking forward to seeing the rest of the rebuild series . keep up the great work!!
This pushed me over the edge! Signed up at my community college for diesel technology, and after that hopefully if I'm a natural diesel technician transportation tech. I've been working union since I was 19 time for a change!
Very informative video series; thanks. It would be great to someday see a video on how you deal with timing gear inspection, removal, installation, etc. I'm trying to read how to do this out of my school textbook and getting a head ache due to the way they word everything.
would love to have a serious of rebuilding a c12 also would love one on how to install jake brakes for the c12 alot of trucks (like mine ) came without the jakes
@@AdeptApe hi i have a C13 on my 2007 peterbilt 379 short hood truck ran perfect but was restricted at 65 miles an hour from the company i purchased it from so i went to a shop they bumped that up the my RPMS where really high so the suposably got my tire size and diferential and another number multiplied it and came up with 29,000 ish and replaced it for the original 34,000 and something number or there truck rpm got lower and ran good coming out of the shop as soon as i hooked my trailer and i began pulling empty my pyro gauge temp went hot turned the red light on and as soon as i let my foot off the throttle it comes back down PLEASE WHAT can that be the guys at the shop say what they did had nothing to do with the pyro temp PLEASE PLEASE HELP.
High Josh, I have a 6.0 diesel 2003 Ford f250 w/ auto trans. I can't figure out why it keeps blowing my oil cap and cracking it. I did replace the oil pressure Guage. You have any idea?
I have a question what if a piston broke pieces all over but engine still rotes with a engine hot temperature code and the block and crankshaft look good and rotate good can I have them checked in chassis's or can't be reused because of overheat thank you?
Just heard about your channel through Stephen Cox and looked you up. Gave you a sub. I used to turn wrenches on trucks but got burned out and got out of it.
working in the cable tv industry as a service tech and it sucks. not sure why I stuck with it so long but I have. thinking now i'm too old to get back into it, almost 60
Gotta love the truck drivers, "that's not how I would do it" great vids man...bailed me out on programming a ecm the other day......how long does a in frame generally take you?
+heavy chevy This one is quoted at 66 hours I believe. It's a Platinum kit so we are doing more than just a standard inframe. Oil pump, water pump, oil cooler, and addition seals and inspection.
Yea platinum is way to go with head being junk and gets you the injectors too.i had a c7 like a week ago come in on hook for no start, I dead headed the transfer pump and found no fuel pressure. ..so pulled huei pump and the gear was held on by 1 thread....just curious if it's a real common thing ? thanks ,don't mean to be a bother
+heavy chevy I like answering questions, kinda the point of the channel. Yes that is a common problem I'd say maybe 1-2 out of 10 HEUI pump failures is the drive nut getting loose.
Hi Adept, love the videos, very helpful. I am working on my C12 now looking for cause of low warm oil pressure. At 7:34 on this video you show an oil plug, what is the story on that plug? Is this something that can come out? My engine acts like it has loose bearings, good pressure cold but when it is warm its down to 35 at 1600 and 15 to 20 at idle, so not good. Main and rod bearing clearances measure out good so looking for other issues now. Thanks!
+Christian Russo I have a boost video that discusses it, but don't have one that I can remember that talks about disconnecting it. Depending on the engine you have it can cause the engine to have a check engine light and derate if you plug it. The wastegate on most of the Cats doesn't really limit the boost by very much though, perhaps a few psi and if you have an older Cat like a 3406E, the extra couple psi won't hurt it most likely. Just do it at your own risk.
+Christian Russo I would pinch the wastegate off and see if it makes a difference, if it doesn't then you have most likely a CAC leak, exhaust leak, plugged muffler, or something else going on with it.
+The Snap-On Junkie!!! The C13 gets a little complicated on the overhead adjustment, but timing it and everything is easy. We have a young guy at work and he couldn't believe you don't even have to time them during a rebuild.
Josh, I'm looking to buy a boat, and this boat has a pair of 3126 450 HP engines in it.. o According to the owner, the fuel injector tip broke off on one cylinder and damaged the engine. They are suggesting a new liner, piston and head. My thought is if I'm going to do that, why not just rebuild the entire engine? I'm pretty mechanical minded and I've rebuilt several GM 350 & 454 gas motors in the past, but I've never tackled a diesel before. In your opinion, is it something that can be done by a guy like me, or should I leave this to a professional? Also, what differences are there between the on road engine and the marine engine? I would plan on removing the engine from the boat and do the rebuild in my garage. Any idea of what a full rebuild kit would cost for these engines? I really enjoy your videos! Dave
If your going to strip it down that far and have the funds to do the rebuild then do it. Your only going to regret it down the line if you don't and then have an engine fail at sea. The 450HP marine engines are pretty "hard worked" engines as they have upped the HP quite a bit in comparison to the road versions which are usually rated between 190-300 IIRC. The extra HP is because the marine engines are designed to give more power and stability up on the plane at consistant high RPM where the road versions are designed for low down torque. You need the HP in the marine version as its the RPM's that matter not the torque. Actual parts wise they aren't much different. If you have done rebuilds before then go for it yourself and do the rebuild. You will save a tonne of money and learn about the engine along the way so your more capable at handling issues in the water. At the end of the day you have 2 engines so you aren't relying on one completely.
Adept Ape dam rite pard I love your vids! BTW question for ya in your opinion is it still ok to dump a quart of ATF IN the fuel tank every 4th fill up is how I do it and I know for fact in my history it has helped alot in older cat engines but I'm wondering about this new EPA Crap engines if it will hurt them to do it? thanks
+Johnathen Thompson This sounds like a press conference, ummmm no comment. No I guess the IRS raided some building in Peoria where Cat headquarters is and the reason I'm not sure. Cat has been shrinking slowly since the housing crisis so maybe something was going on with their numbers, but I don't have any idea. I wear a work shirt so they don't tell me anything.
Sorry didn't mean to make it sound like a press conference lol but I really want to work with cat in the future I'm about to graduate from UTI and just wanted to know if it's something I should worry about
+Trucker Chris I should have moved the video background sound lower and you could have heard me better. Just think of it as trying to talk in a shop, air tools ruin it.

its a mbn motor having a low boost problem, looks like the turbo compressor was changed within the last few months but not sure
