Its crazy to see Pioneer Kaserne so ran down. I have a lot of great memories of them days. Watching this brought some back. And reading the comments refreshed them. I was in HHC 130th Engineer Brigade from 92-93. And yes I remember E Tony's Pizza. Great Lasagna :-)
It’s heartbreaking to see Pioneer Kaiser’s in this condition. I was stationed at the 568th Engr Co from 12/76 - 5/80. Best duty of my 9 years active duty.
I was stationed at Grossauheim Kaserne from1967 to1969 and have been to Pioneer many times . Had ton of good times in Hanau a lot of good friends, miss it
I like to read all the good times people had being in Hanau and at the pioneer kaserne.. I have family there seeing that I was married to a German lady from Hanau. We have two lovely children and grandchildren. I was with the 587th FM Batt. I was there from 1955 thru 1959 long time ago. Still have memories of those days.
Wow. I remember this place. My dad was stationed there from 1982 to 1986. We lived in Sportsfield Housing. Shocking to see how rundown it looks. Great Memories there.
Oh man, I miss this place so much. My first duty station and I was so excited to be back in Germany. I worked at the MEDDAC clinic! Oh man the people I met there, the places I got to see! I’m so sad to see it in this state. I want to bring my family here one day. ❤ Thank you for sharing!
I was a Kid living in Sportsfield across from Pioneer Kaserne from 1973-1983..Went back several times over the years and it was so sad to see it close down...Thanks for the videos because it brings back so many Happy Memories.
I lived in Sportsfield and Pioneer Kaserne from '77-'83. Probably knew you. Did you remember Frank Gotz, Bear, James Stessing, Otis Sanchez, Nicki Phillips, Stephanie Reck just to name a few?
Was stationed here with the 548th LEM Co. from 1991-1993. Moved to the Patriot Kaserne (555) barracks in late 1992. Hanau was my first duty station, wife is from here. They always say your first duty station is the best and it was for me! Good times spent at the Boat/Bavaria and I think the Alabama (half-way between Pioneer and Wolfgang). Good times...miss it.
@@veronicaguerrero7597 really? Same time then. I was a generator mechanic. I think my platoon Sgt was SSG Bauer if I remember correctly. I worked for SGT Walker for almost a year driving radio equipment to Pirmesens about 3 times a week. Loved Hanau, still have family there (married a German from the area).
I remember Sgt Bauer, Walker sounds familiar. I worked at the Shop Office and the Motor Pool with Sgt Cherry, Bacon and Bradley. Got married in Germany too. When the company deactivated I went to Ft. Riley. I don’t know who you are but it’s definitely nice to hear from some one that was in my company in one of the most beautiful countries I’ve ever visited.
@@veronicaguerrero7597 At the time I was PFC/SPC Jackson. The names you mention don't ring a bell, but I hung out with a small crowd (names Corcoran, Staples, Shryer, James or Bosley ring a bell?). Also not sure if you remember Kiele Jackson (not sure if I'm spelling her name right) but she was a friend as well. Scott Fenner? Brandy...oh, can't remember her name but she's now married to Scott Fenner. Hard to remember all the names, seems like so long ago and my CRS is bad these days (CRS=Can't Remember Shit).
26thS&S/QMS on Pioneer from 90-92 then went on to Wiesbaden AB until pcs back to US in 96..I loved Germany!!!!! Sad to see pioneer kaserne so rundown and abandoned :(
I was stationed there 85 through 88 lots of memories. The world was still ahead of me at that point. I miss those times and people. The world has changed so much since then. 🙁
Sad to see the old base all over grown and run down now! Makes me kinda miss the place! I lived in building 6 on the top floor with a a view of the front gate from 1990 to 1992! 516th enginner co.!
@daimlerbenz: Glad to hear that you enjoyed watching this.:-) I too feel sad to see everything going down the drain and rotting/dacaying. Since the Americans left, Hanau and especially Wolfgang just aren't the same...-.-
I was in the same unit(lance 76-79)...fliegerhorst was a clean awesome place, now gone!...can't take the memories...besides, we were young and enjoying life and serving our country!...No regrets here!
I was stationed in Gelnhausen Germany at Coleman Kaserne from 87 to 89. I used to ride the train or drive to Hanau just to go to the PX or Burger King or the Pizza Hut between the train station and the post. Good memories.
the rope ? thats the spot i hung out at . i usually bicycled down the river from the direction of hessen homburg . once i ventured further towards pioneer and ran into some electrical linemen with their case of bier sitting in the shade under their truck . they had a beer with me . america would collectively lose its shit if a an electrical lineman casually drank a beer while working . i like germany better in that respect . :)>
I have a picture of my father sitting on the short wall at the end of Building 8 on September 3rd, 1956 while he was stationed here at Pioneer Kaserne. He also had a picture, which I found in my Grandmother's Bible, of the chapel from that time period. I spent nearly four years in Building 7 with the 814th Engineer Company (Assault Float Bridge) which fell under the command of the 130th Engineer Brigade which was in Building 6. I have a picture of myself sitting on the wall at the end of Building 7 from 1991 and pictures of the chapel from then. I returned to visit Pioneer Kaserne around Thanksgiving of 2005 with my family and took pictures of them by Building 7 and also took pictures of the chapel. I was fortunate to have three generations of my family visit Pioneer Kaserne over a 49 year period. I met and married my wife while stationed here.
I bet many do! I used to work on post at Wolfgang Kaserne... Being a military patron and having grown up in both the States and now Germany I know both worlds, but Hanau has definetly changed since 2008. I miss the "old" days! I reside in Hanau currently, yes...
They should have shown the Boat, was a major part of Pioneer Kaserne. Was cool to see, thanks for sharing. At the end I realized where they were and noticed the enlisted club on the way out and the street I used to live down was the 3rd or 4th barracks on the right on the way out.
If your on Facebook, look for a group called "U.S. Army in Hanau/Germany"... You'll find a lot of people that share the same experiences and a series of pictures I have been taking over the past couple of months of what is left of the Kasernes...
I was there 1980-82 71st ordnance co. Tow/dragon Missile repairman Remember Tony's Pizza right out the back gate. Our shop was right next to the nuclear plant. 3 miles off base.

I was on the top two floors the MP's have the first two and every time we came down the stairs and and heard someone that was arrested getting thrashed we went back upstairs until it was quiet.

Where are the three story buildings, fieldhouse, and the rest of Pioneers great buildings? I heard it was built as a part of of the Nazi build up in 1938 & 39. I can't believe it's been left to rot. Those buildings were well taken care and could have been used for so many different uses. I did see a post here saying how Smerinan's left barrels of oil and other hazardous materials behind and that sucks. In a Country that's so environmentally friendly that you can't even cut down a tree without getting permission first they really should have done better. A sad way to say thanks for being a good neighbor and farewell.
I WAS STATION ON PIONEER KASERNE JAN 1978 TO 1980, WITH 81ST MAINT CO. THE BEST DUTY STATION I HAD IN 21 YEARS I WENT BACK TO GERMANY AND GOT STATION IN HANAU BUT AT FLEIGLHORST KASERNE HATED IT B CO 122 MAINT. BN MARCH 1983 TO 85
I asked a friend of mine in Germany to listen to this and tell me what they're saying. Here's her report: "This is obviously a press bus and not necessarily a tourist bus. It is a huge area of 40 ha that was given back [by the US]. They are discussing what can be done with this area… partly houses that are under monument protection, lots of wild life, so nature preserved… they are about to decide what to do: housing or industry or just natural preservation."

fliegerhorst 1976-1979, wow, what a time, pioneer is where you went to buy new uniforms and I heard the em club was cool, but fliegerhorst was beautiful, and what a mess hall, burgers, and fries, better than mcdonallsd, and the famous bell, which we actually stole!

Can anybody explain why there are bus tours through the old base? In the video, there are MANY buses with people on it. It puzzles me that so many Germans would want to see a vacated US army base. (I wish I understood German to know what the tour guide is saying.)
Huh! I had no idea this was closed when I stumbled on this video. I was stationed there from the end of April '85 to November '86 with the 814th Engineer Company. Sad, but time marches on. Hopefully the typically practical Germans can put it all to good use.
Tom Sweeney and I were roommates. I was one of the very few Mexicans in the Bn. Left him with a scar on his butt. Wonder if he married Diane. SFC MARK CARRASCO, US ARMY, Retired.
It is exactly what it is, Jeff. Many decades Germany was a parted country. Thus Germans lived aside American military installations without access to them; wouldn't you want to see what was going on for more than 4 decades right next to your door on your own soil?
Every time there was an alert and we had to go to the alert area and as we pulled out the gate of Pioneer the communist were there writing down truck numbers and all along the way you would see more of them. We never knew when the alert was coming but the communist did and also the food truck people that were waiting for us at the alert area to sell us coffee and food
I didn't feel like translating the whole 8 minutes. I summed it up in a nutshell... And NO, it wasn't a "press" bus. I should know. I was sitting in it.;-)
