- This video is about fixing the OBC stalk on BMW e46. Since I have purchased my BMW my BC button has never worked. I use to think my car did not come with the button but it was just a cut wire. Turns out to be an easy fix. Noticed my m-sport wheel is missing...Stay tuned!!

Kudos! I just did my first DIY on my F22 and saved about $350, replacing my window washer pump. Unrelated to your video, but it gave a little more confidence for other DIY projects. Great video! By the way you can unlock the trunk manually with the key without the need for the car to have any power, no need to put a rag in to block it off

Live on the edge do all the air bag work with the battery connected.
I got my airbag recall done last year, also the ground wire for the tail lights is a recall...might wanna get them done at the same time. The dealer was nice enough to give me a $6000 estimate on repairs, lol. I think I’ll figure it out on my own, or get an indie mechanic for anything I can’t do. And I hope you get better than 5.9 mpg in the near future 🤕

nice work evan! mine has NO button! but I read the iBus screen on my Avun headunit 😎 but would like the button on the stall too.. just to get Distance to empty (range) up.. can we code the cluster screen to display range permanently?
Mine still works color is just fading so I will replace both stocks when I get my sport wheel looks pretty straight forward
Great video. I’m about to do this job on a car with a BC button and have a new one to replace it with. I’ve read some comments online that imply there needs to be some recoding done, but it looks like you were able to do it without that. Is that correct?

Does this make the high beam light and fog light thing to not light up as well? I have the same problem with the computer but it seems weird I have no high beam light on the dash etc
What fuse would it be for BC ?
Worked 6 years as a car electrician, never disconnected a battery - that's a popular bullshit. Just do not turn on ignition because that will trigger airbag fault that will need to be erased with OBD scanner. And no, - airbags will not explode. Good video!!! I wrote this comment for lazy persons who don't want to disconnect a battery 👍
Hey Evan love your videos. super informative. I had a question. You know how E46's have that "secret" option to show your RPM instead of your car's mileage? Is there any way to make it so it shows the RPM when you first start the car? Looking forward to what you do in the future👍

Thanks for the video Evan, valuable info on how to remove and handle the stalk. My left side wheel radio control buttons have stopped working and I'm thinking it could be those cables back there. Any ideas? not sure if you've done a video about this.
This happen on my beater car Nissan, first my left side radio controls stop working, then over time my cruise control stopped working, then after my horn stopped working. My suggestion is to replace your steering wheel clock spring, because inside the clock spring are ribbon cables that go bad after a while because of age and more importantly wear and tear.

Incorrect, BC stands for Bordcomputer (German).
So the options for the e39/e46 are:
- Kein Bordcomputer (no BC)
- Bordcomputer Low
- Bordcomputer High

Great video, my BC button failed about a year ago and I haven’t found a relevant video up until now. By any chance, have you ever had an issue with the central locking button (by hazards) not functioning properly?
Yes I did when I first got my car! I replaced it
The central locking button fails often it’s very easy to replace.

Hey Evan did the E46 came with motorized steering column and if so when are you going to take on that retrofit. My E53 never came with heated steering wheel but i did the retrofit and replaced my bc or turn signal stalk.

interesting video bro, question my e46 gauge cluster miles box have been going dim when ever it wants to, especially when it rains, my battery and alternator are steady 14.2. ive heard it could be my lightning control module or my whole instrument cluster

Evan Goyuk nope the check engine light and seatbelt are fully lite, the speedometer and the mileage box is the going dim,
And the scroll wheel on the ALSZ does on work?

The procedure is the same for those who did not have the bc lever on the car. After installation, a few clicks in ncsexpert and everything works like from factory :)
I do not have the bc button on the turn signal lever.
Do i have to just change the turn signal lever with one that have the bc button or what?

Hi, do you have stock radio or with android? I want to replace mine with android but I heard that I will lose my obc if I do that.
Not true, your obc will work fine
Joe is correct, your OBV will still work with an android radio. I have an avant 4 which is an android radio!

Mine works fine, but the knobs in my cluster don't work, at all.
Don't really want to rip up a working cluster, and replace the tabs with one's that will fail soon, but, I also don't want to replace my whole cluster, and pay a dealership to code it to my car.
Any solutions?
Btw, I'm fairly local to you.
I haven’t looked into this but you may be able to just repair the knobs inside the cluster

Took my e46 to the dealer to have the airbag checked and the clown working on mine scratched the logo! Told the manager and he said it’s not big enough for them to replace!! Thats why I never take my car to the dealer or any mechanic

This would of been a good time to add the wiper stalk for the intensive wash program. Not life changing by any means but I know you are big on having every feature possible on your car
Chris Freeman hey Chris i added the stalk you mention but not sure if it is working, what other step or steps would it require to have this feature working. Evan your input is also required.
You would need to code it with ncs expert
Denzel Wilson yeah what Evan said. You need to code the feature using ncs. I don’t believe the button will do anything if you haven’t coded it
I should have asked the first time also, i read where some people say it might require jumping pin 10 and another because some vehicles might not be wired for this feature. Can someone shed some light on this topic.
I live in Canada and I was the first person to have my E46 crushed in Canada under this TAKATA RECALL... E46 had that airbag .. they told us that it would take 2 years to get the airbag ..they could store the car for 2 years for you till the parts came in ... as the car must be taken off the road immediately... so we negotiated a buyout .. a tow truck came.. took the car .. it was crushed.. (we know the owner of the yard that crushed it).... my car was MINT .... And then 8 weeks later i got my check.. they paid for a rental for the first week... i had to pay it and wiat for a refund.. I ACTUALLY THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A SCAM AS I WAS SIGNING OVER MY CAR LEGALLY TO A STRANGER ALL DONE OVER THE TELEPHONE AND INTERNET..I phoned my local B.M.W. dealer who ASSURED ME B.M.W. NEVER EVER BUYS CARS BACK.. FREAKED ME RIGHT OUT... It did turn out to be real ... as I said i was the first person on Canada to negotiate this recall.... NOTE TAKATA HAS SINCE GONE OUT OF BUSINESS SO NO AIR BAGS ARE GOING TO BE SUPPLIED... YOU WILL GET A LETTER IN THE MAIL TO GET YOUR CAR CRUSHED.. This is happening to other people .. it just hasn't arrived where you are yet.. people up here were buying E46's with TAKATA airbags unknowingly to lose then weeks later... bummer... check to see of your car is in the recall BEFORE BUYING...... SO i bought 4 cars a 325 ix for parts to fix 2 other cars... then I bought a 325ix to fiz and I bought a 325i 5 speed that used to be automatic but was converted to manual 5 speed... and i fixed that for myself.... i solld the 325ix I built to help offset the project .. so through this recall I got a check plus my credit card and built 2 cars sold 1 and have a car worth double of the car they crushed and now have a 5 spped with a bigger engine that was put in it...... took 6 months from recall letter to selling the other car ...full stress but when life gives you lemons .. make lemon gelato .... hey man .. the cruise control is now not working ,, i am guessing its from the automatic to standard swap .. do you have any info for me or can you do a video on that... lastly .. i have the small trim pieces for over the rear doors at the back of them and I can't find a video how to install them or even where to get those white clips that hold them in... so no option to replace TAKATA airbags for E46 owners in Canada unless you take the car off the road till a supplier can be found and gotten.
another reason to hate Canada banning guns, crushing cars for no reason, missing indigenous women.

The strangest problem, I did this repair successfully. Now the highbeam won't go off. When I locked the car the lights come on every now and then. Any ideas?
The plastic piece in side may not be positioned right
@@EvanGoyuk The little bar that controls the high beams was not positioned correctly indeed. Next problem, the right blinker stays on haha. Oh god, third time is the charm.
