Something else to note, there's the intention behind the purchase and what you know. If you don't *know* the origin of what you're purchasing, like the RPO Mechagodzilla or that KG, that's not your fault at all. You have a product that you're interested in purchasing and for all you know it's legit. That's just how it is. Now if there's a clear difference and there's a bootleg on the market... Shame on them.
I’m glad you made a video covering bootlegs and 3rd party video to put the information out there, I recently stopped supporting my local comic book store because they started caring mainly bootlegs instead of the actually figures. Great video as always!
Are you sure the zd toys mechagodzilla is a stolen mold? Pretty sure they got the marvel license over in China a couple years back and they made figures with unique molds that don't fit into the style of other companies that have the marvel license. So seems kinda sus that they would have stolen the mold of it and possibly risk their relationship with marvel/Disney

Very glad you touched on this topic. And definitely taught me some stuff I didn’t know even when I thought I knew everything I needed to when it comes to bootlegs and 3rd party stuff. And this video also sums up the reason i don’t ever buy bootlegs. With only 1 or 2 exceptions even though some of those exceptions are debatably 3rd party.
I personally have only bought a bootleg if the official version of the figure's price is astronomically high, even then, I alwayd make sure to find a review of said bootleg to see if it's worth going for. (Most of the time the answer is no lmao)

The only reason I'd get a knock off is A) I overlooked the country of origin, making it an accident, or B) I need an accessory I lost/broke or make a custom out of the figure.
Or in worst case scenario, it's the only one that I could find.
I always tell people who shop on ebay or amazon to be wary of the seller's locations. Any seller from China MUST be held with high scrutiny and must always be your very bottom of the line seller to go to if you have no one else. When buying gunpla or figures from Japan, I always make sure the seller is either Japanese, US, or using actual sites that sell those products like BBTS or Mandarake. eBay/Amazon should always be the last website to go shopping for unless you know for without a doubt that you can't find it anywhere else (for me, it hunting for 1/35 or 1/72 diecast military model vehicles since there not a dedicated diecast model website).

The issiue is the ethics, bootleggs are cheaper because they exploit and horribly treat their employes
Informative video. Like you, I also purchased and customized the bootleg Showa Ghidorah like other RUclipsrs/figure posters out there. For that figure, I think that it came out at the right point at the right time when demand for such a figure was there. In an era where outside of the Monsterverse films Monsterarts has largely released special color versions of old toys and new versions of Godzilla, I think there was a craving for a new sculpt of an old favorite. I agree that if you did not know what you were trying to get, these bootlegs are deceiving and not up to par. For the hardcore fan (which is the market for these figures at higher price points), I think the figure was a godsend. Sure Monsterarts may release it's own Showa KG in a few years, but this figure with a little TLC is absolutely incredible.

Im one of the few who thought bootleg 2019 Godzilla was actually the real deal....then he came apart in my hands and i noticed he is short for an SHM figure...:(
Well now I’m going to be even more careful about Godzilla Bootlegs than I already am. Because I’m a sane human being, and I don’t support murder.
I make it a point to buy unique looking bootlegs, like this Godzilla from Mexico that seems to be based on the SHMA 2014 but is like twice the size (10 inch figure) and has extra molding to make his teeth bigger and look more fierce
I noticed back in 2005 the bootleg gashapon figures were actually excellent copies of the originals the only difference was some paint applications, I have a few that I saved over the years but I kinda stopped after 2005 cause I hit my teens but I have now returned and bought every gashapon that I had growing up and the new hg d+ x figures etc.
the bootlegs now just look terrible.
When you say most noticeably re: monsterarts Godzilla 2019 at 4:15, do you mean in terms of monsterarts or kaiju figures?
And am I understanding correctly that the RPO Mechagodzilla is rumored to have been a NECA mold/figure that just didn’t make it to production before their license expired?
As in the bootleg is notable.
And we don't know for RPO MG, just ideas floating around.
Point of order: the definition of 3rd party
3rd party product is any product for an IP that isn't made by the IP holder, and can be either licensed out by the IP holder or unlicensed. With the latter, those are typically fan works. So, for instance, the Monsterverse is to an extent licensed 3rd party since Toho still owns Godzilla, but gave Legendary the rights to make those movies with those characters. The only times I can think of where licensed 3rd party doesn't want to be called 3rd party is in the case of Transformers where the unlicensed market is so large they kinda took the name 3rd party for themselves.

I mean bootleg of already made figures suck, but third party is a great option, if the license holder ain't making a figure I really want but a fan does hes getting my money. Plain and simple

I bought a Godzilla 2014 statue that kinda very very close resembles the X plus Godzilla 2014 and it can moves it’s arms and legs but something about it seems very off
Unfortunately, I believe that may be a bootleg.
I have both the official 2019 Ghidorah and the third-party one. The third-party Ghidorah is one I went out of my way to get. Since it's Showa Ghidorah and there is no Showa Ghidorah figure out on the market yet. If Monsterarts can release one, I'd buy it in a heartbeat still. But alas, I heard no plans to make one, so third-party it is.
Shame though, that the third-party Showa Ghidorah is actually BETTER than the 2019 official Ghidorah figure imo. At least it can stand on its own AND you can actually PLAY with the Showa Ghidorah without it falling apart on you, whilst the 2019 official is more of a glorified statue that you'd pose once then never wanna touch again because it's such a pain in the ass. At least in my experience. Until Monsterarts or NECA or whoever releases a Showa Ghidorah figure, I highly recommend the third-party Ghidorah.

I bought a Godzilla 2019 figure a couple is years ago when it came out and it had weird teeth there wasn’t many teeth and one messy eye and now that I watched this I noticed it was prob a boot leg but it looked like the model in the pic it was just the head that was weird
I don’t get bootlegs or 3rd parties.I make customs with clay.
First make the thing you want to make with no joints ( don’t heat up)
Second put in lego mini ball joints in the places you want them to move
Third heat up
And your custom is finished!
Just be delicate and don’t have it stand on thin spikes ( sorry Scylla fans who want a Scylla figure)

A really good 3rd party company I’m happy with is Photon Collectables. He’s a operation out of England and he manages to make some great stuff. He’s made the Muto male and female labels as the Parasite Mother and Father and he has also made the Charybdis. I own both and have yet to paint them and finish them. I just have to give him really good credit because he had a wonderful turnaround time and he delivered a really good product. If you own his stuff you should definitely take a look at it in the future!

If Someone Is About to Buy A Figure for review has To Be Becareful, Buying it From eBay is too dangerous, You have to read the review, before buying it, If it's. From China, Hongkong the buyer should be careful buying the figure because It Can Be A bootleg, I'm not saying buying a bootleg is bad but if you have a good economy, buy the original instead, buying a bootleg is for people who didn't have enough money to buy an original.

Not gonna lie I'm somewhat caught in a 3way problem like in this video's explanation, since I did get 1 "Knockoff/bootleg" version of a Figma on amazon 2-3 years back.
I'm trying to Pre-order the SH Monsterarts Mechagodzilla 2021, as of me typing this there is one Pre-order left on Toywiz but I found selling's on eBay for around 139.99 - 140.00$ but I have no idea if they are Bootlegs and or Knockoff's since they are from China/Hong Kong.
And I am trying my best since to choose wisely since I don't want to waste the money I have saved in the last 1 to 3 months and get something that is... "Cheap." If anyone can somehow tell me or give advice on which route is best to take it would be much appreciated, thank you.
And for the record I have around 310.00$ saved up.
