The neck joints are pretty tight for a bootleg..very impressive! The design is incredible and articulation too!

I actually have a bootleg of the sh monster arts 2019 godzilla and it's not too bad... Some of the articulation like the ab crunch and tail are better than the legit one... Although overall its not as good as the legit one

To be honest, given how cheap tamashii has gone with the MA, i dare say this is like 90% as good theirs would be but at probably 1/6 of the price.
Personally I think the paint scheme looks like the suit from Invasion of the Astro Monster where the gold paint on the suit got darker with age or from Godzilla vs Gigan where the gold is this color but it's hard to tell because all the non-stock footage scenes are obviously at night. That's just me though. If SH Monsterarts does do a legit Showa King Ghidorah I wonder, along with Showa style Gravity Beams, could have a replaceable heads. For example the heads on this bootleg being the 1960's heads being base heads while it would also have heads based off the 1970's suits from Godzilla vs Gigan and Zone Fighter that have different horns and eye color. I say eye color cause the 64 suit has red eyes with black pupils while the other suits throughout the Showa era have either blue or black pupils on white eyes.
The figure is painted to mimic the SHMA Ghidorah 2019, do the eye paint is the same as that one, just... bigger.
This thing's neck has better articulation than the actual sh release
Imma be honest, comparing the prices of this and official figures, I’d say this would definitely be worth its flaws

HarveyBirdmanrules there is an account in instagram that’s called “Shmonsterarts the articulations series”, he actually repainted this figure and gives the details on how to repaint this, and it looks pretty good
I have this and I really like it. Besides the wrong color and bad in certain places paint job (spikes), and the right wing that can slide off more easily, it's really nicely sculpted. I'm amazed at how great the articulation on the necks work. I expected them to pop off left and right, and that did not happen.

Great review man ! Funny thing, seeing all these other reviews since my original one, despite the quality of the paint being a miss, I've found that quality control wise they all seem to be surprisingly consistent at least haha!
I don't know why so many people are confusion about the model kit theory... It's not a question of weather this figure was based off that kit and then engineered to be articulated by the bootleggers... I honestly don't think anyone believes that...
What likely happened is that Tamashii /MonsterArts made this figure using the sculpt of the kit (like they did with their Biollante figure) , added the engineering and articulation, then the moulds for that prototype were stolen by the bootleggers and they produced what we see here...
The figure and that Sakai kit are way way too similar ! even down to the shape of the folds in the wings, the shape and contours of the manes and the shape of individual scales and creases in the body...
Despite it being a bootleg it's the only one that represents Showa King Ghidorah the best so far. But man, does this thing need a shiny gold paint job so badly.

I ordered this bootleg King Ghidorah figure last year from China and after weeks of waiting, it was delivered in Hawaii (which is not where I live). So at the beginning of this year, I bought the exact same figure but this time it was being shipped from someone who lived here in the US but it was overpriced like over $200 and I bought it for less than that, it was delivered to my house and it actually rocks. Although the left wing had something inside the gap that prevented from getting attached so I had to sand down whatever was inside and now I have the figure fully assembled.
I hope you’re right with this being a bootleg of “yet to be revealed” SH MonsterArts Ghidra (that’s what I call the Showa version for whatever reason) and that we get a reveal at NYCC.
Ghidra is one of the very few monsters I don’t have in my collection & I desperately want one.
Probably nothing at NYCC, but Tamashii Nation at the end of October.
I’m definitely gonna get this figure, mostly because it’s only around £70 on eBay and the Heisei ghidorah is ridiculously priced now (and no, I don’t want legendary ghidorah, besides not liking it’s design, he’s doubled his price already)

I actually really love this figure. I painted mine a nice proper gold and it’s pretty much perfect! The only problem is the left wing, which is pretty much stuck.

I wish I was able to pick this up when it was still easy to obtain. Can’t find it anywhere now. Makes me wish that an official Showa King Ghidorah like this would get released since I missed out on this. Only reasonI didn’t get it is because I only got into Godzilla around the time this figure was seemingly on its way out. I do have the bootleg Heisei King Ghidorah. But I want to have a Showa Ghidorah as well, and there isn’t many options.

Yea I like how he looks like old ghidora but new ghidora paint style(I would rather the other way around) but it's pretty good for a "bootleg"
The problem of the wings falling off can be easily fixed by just gluing them to the joint. If I do consider getting this, I'll just straight-up spray paint it in metallic gold without any shading since I don't know how while avoiding the eyes and mouths.

If I ever do buy this, I'll probably repaint it as the original concept for showa ghidorah, an odd blue with rainbow wings.
I honestly think it looks pretty cool with the 2019 color pattern but it'd also be cool to have it in the correct color scheme.

Idk, big figure companies seem to actually ignore bootlegs, especially if their confident that there version would be better (even if they never make an official version)
If it bootleg from 2014 and newer get it and just repaint it the detail usually is pretty good just needs paint job and for this bootleg you basically need like 2 colors

This figure is unironically better than the actual S.H. MonsterArts King Ghidorah, at least it's not frustrating with the joints, it only needs a repaint.

Might be misremembering? Since I don't remember the correct date when it appeared, all I remember is that I saw a Showa King Ghidorah on the 1 st April posted by Tamashii Nations. (like the older April Fools).

I actually like the painting more than the golden one.
To be honest I would prefer this one figure over the MA one.
I managed to safely get my 2019 Ghidorah to twist & turn his necks. I also managed to get his wings to stay in no problemo. I don’t know if I just happened to receive one of the better ones of the batch (though some of the tail joints are being a real pain in the ass & now his right leg) or if everyone was too “scared” to handle him in such a way. For the price point, I could see why they would be.
No, you didn't. If the joints pop out or were never inserted correctly to begin with, they're an absolute nightmare to get back in.

Wonder if one can still get these bootlegs since ive seen multiple sellers of this, but they all use the same images (which has some of the heads missing their jaws)
Here's my thoughts on the origins: Bandai and Tamashi Retooled that model kit into a action figure. But a bootlegger stole the prodotype and ran a production run on it.

The thing is. With this toy. I have it. I bought it off of eBay for about 157$... yea and it showed the 2019 ghidorah. Because the seller knew that if they showed the 2019 ghidorah people would buy it. I’m not happy but in not sad. Christmas is on they way though so yea.

You brought up a point about whether or not it's ethical to purchase this.
Bandai charging upwards of 90$ for a figure with no accessories is unethical, so frankly, I couldn't give a shit less about the ethics of "stealing" from a multi-million dollar corporation. When your quality control dips, but your prices start hiking....I'm going to cut my losses and pay for a bootleg that's worth the price it's asking. I genuinely feel like there should be regulations that protect the consumer from what is pure corporate greed, there is no reason I should be paying 90+ dollars for the 89 goji, no accessories.
Certainly, that is a take.

When you pose king ghidorah you have to put the middle head up because that is the dominant head like the alpha
I bought it. I will buy the real one if monsterarts brings it out but for now it's the only articulated shows ghidorah.
i believe they got hold of/steal the monsterarts master casting mold, its the same case like what happened to good smile company china factory back then, their master metal mold got stolen/sold by an employee, that's why the sculpt and scale looks amazing because they not recasting the official released figures, they got the master mold, so they can make detailed bootleg, but lack in paint quality, and general quality control.

I ordered this and love it but I'm having a problem. The jaw broke off when I slightly touched it and revealed that the ball joint on the top part of the mouth is actually just kinda glued there? Did this happen to anybody else and any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks!
I used to have a similar problem with the pre-polycap joints in mecha kits. One easy "solution" is to use white glue to hold the part in place; it's easy enough to remove and re-apply when you want to change a fixed display pose.
If you insist on mobility and durability, apply a thin layer of super glue to the ball. Do NOT apply too much because it will go places you do not want it (also hold the ball-side down to drain excess away from the detail area). Let it dry completely, test-fit, and if needed apply more. Sand lightly when the fit becomes too tight: you do not want a very tight fit because you'll damage the other side of the joint. This method is tedious but will result in a tighter ball joint that should not loosen quickly due to plastic wearing away through friction.

when i got this figure it was advertised on ebay as monster zero and in the title said "king ghidorah 2019" and thats what i wanted, i bought it for cheap but i ended up getting showa king ghidorah... £80 got scammed.
