I had an FJ45 with 327V8 Chev back in the day,i used to lift the hood and put a tarp over motor and bring it down the front to to push water away on the bow wave, had it in some gnarly rivers,no snorkel...
Where was the air intake? It's in the wheel arch in Toyota's so that trick is vehicle specific with respect to hydro-locking, but it would be good for protecting the radiator fan. It's not going to help if you start floating though.
Check council websites for river flow rates. I think it was at 3 cumecs when i took the jimny through, friends have done it at 9 cumecs and said it was risky
Awesome footage. Was the Arrow normal depth? I imagine it can get lower, but also higher very quickly after rainfall... How did the underbody cope with the rock strikes? Do you have protection?
Im not sure what normal depth is but it was 4 cumecs that day and proba ly getting near the limits of a jimny but only in a couple of crossings. A mate did it at 9 cumecs in a ford ranger and said that was pushing the limit for them. No underbody protection yet so just carefully picked my line around boulders but generally not to rough at all
Cool vid , great track , well done 👍
Thanks for uploading this! I enjoyed it!

thanks for this👍
Epic video mate! What time of year was this? And how do you find out the river flow rate?
Um i cant remember the exact time of year. It will be around the time it was uploaded. We just googled flow rates. Cant wait to do it again!
whats it like in july?

Does that little Suzuki have diff breathers?
Sure does. Although the factory one way valves should be up to the job as long as you dont get stuck in deep water
After all these water crossings I guess your Jimny just needed a fast spinning in the washing machine and a good hour in the tumble drier, right?
All the door seals held up no worries but also a trip up nevis pass the follwing day dried her out real good

Guessing you need a snorkel on most 4wd for those conditions?
I saw several utes in there without snorkels but i wouldnt risk it. River levels could rise rapidly at anytime aswell...
@@ballsdeepnz5595 was thinking about doing it in a week or so if the weather was good. Have a 09 Hilux with no snorkel
@@josephwhitmore8424 if its flowing under 4 cumecs you will probably be ok....
