That’s what HOAs are all about, protecting your home value from the actions of your neighbors. And to keep things at their maximum value, the HOA tries to have the whole neighborhood look HGTV-ready at all times.

Some things to add…know your property line, because even if you don’t…your neighbors absolutely do.
Learn to love the dark at night, it’s not anything like city type dark.
Learn to navigate your property in pitch black…as if it were day light.
Learn all the sounds after dusk, the wildlife actually communicate a lot to what is in the area…both good and bad
Lastly, you will always hear some form of animal (bird, squirrel, coyote, etc) throughout the day…if your property becomes dead silent, be on your toes…for real.

When we moved into our 200 acres, elderly neighbour's declared we were dumping snow too close to his property line. We were confused because we just bought and had looked at the maps. But sure, we dumped snow further up our driveway. We paid for a surveyor because we thought it would be best to be more aware. Same surveyor was a local doing a bunch all along our road at the same time. Turned out our elderly neighbour had put half his driveway on our land.
Other neighbour's laughed about it. We moved here from the city but immigrated originally from rural England, Devon. Our elderly neighbour who had been there 30 years was originally from the city. I don't know about cities but rural England, we love our land surveyor.

100% can confirm. We moved out to the country 18 months ago and our next door neighbors (100 yrds or so away) saved our butts so many times. We also have neighbors who shoot regularly and we also shoot. Our land is mostly unkempt woods with just some narrow trails so we can walk around and enjoy it. My son and I also now have a tradition of putting out bonfires by peeing on them (once the ladies are inside)

Well buddy, you know what’s funny about you posting this video now is my wife and I along with our four daughters are getting out of South Florida to move up to Alabama to get away from just how many people have moved here. We’re looking forward to getting out in the country and growing our own stuff. We’re actually in the process of renovating the house we just bought before officially moving in.

As somebody who grew up on a South Dakota ranch and now lives in a city center, it surprises me how truly urban and rural folks have more in common with each other, ie: knowing and helping their neighbors while respecting their privacy, than we do with folks in suburbia. Those folks are isolated in all the wrong kinds of ways. I never would have expected that but life is full of surprises.

All of us on our private road help each other out. I burned some diesel to grade out and drag our pot-holy quarter mile. I got some firewood in return. Didn't ask for it. It just showed up. It's how we roll. And we do have a neighborhood unwelcoming committee for those special occasions.

I go fishing in the country. Small town in Indiana and the guy I rent the boat is about two miles east from the resort on the SE side of the lake. He says he would send one of his kids to pick me up and I decline. Walking there is peaceful as hell and every car coming by me waves hello 👋. That tells me I’m out of the city. 🎣

I was on a town council for a rural community in the blue mountains of Oregon and in the 80s we started getting lots of transplants from California. They would come to council meetings, which was great, but everytime they would bring up how it was done back home in California. I finally got fed up and told them to move back to California and accept our way of country life. Many accepted it, some moved to Portland, hmmm, and others were a pain in our back side. 😅😅😅😅

Sounds like you could use a flock of guinea fowl! We have them, and every year the tick population around our house gets noticeably smaller... but if I walk ten minutes up my road to where I have my gardens, there's still loads of them!

Also add if you move to the country and you move near a farm, race track, or fire station, don't complain about the sights, smells, or sounds. They were there first, you decided to move there. This ain't a them problem, it's a you problem. Has my late grandma use to say while driving past a field that had just had manure spread on it, "That's fresh country air."

    Boy, are you right!
We bought 8 wooded acres with an old yet sturdy barn with a dirt floor. In a year we moved from the burbs to the barn after concrete floor, spray foamed walls, two upstairs bedrooms and bath/kitchen. And well and septic. I’ll bet I made 100 trips to Lowe’s. And I have very little to mow now.
It was a ton of work but we have a decent gun range and the plan is to build a small log cabin further back on the property.
    Freedom!!!!!

City girl here and saving up to move to the country...aside from peeing in my yard and traveling far to get supplies, this was exactly how me and most of my neighbors were raised...everyone I know hunts and goes fishing...pro 2a!! Mostly military and law enforcement...as much as I love where I was born and raised, my kind has been pushed out because lowlife idiots have destroyed it...and sorry, but I will continue to vote how I always voted, especially since I'll finally have a chance to be on the winning side!! (we haven't had a republican mayor since 1941-1952)

The first one is a major reason I want to live in the country. I want my front yard to look like Johnny Depp's in Secret Window. Not one blade of grass, just trees.

When you leave the city to move to the country, (LEAVE) the city behind you and don't drag any of it with you. We don't want it!!
