If you play on survival, you can't buy raw materials anymore. Those autonomous mining units are crucial when you start a new game. I was harvesting cooper, oxygen and nitrogen. Nitrogen can be turned into radon to make uranium. Oxygen is good to make ionized cobalt, condensed carbon and chlorine.
I just started a survival save. If you can get these you can get the gas and mineral extractors. I've got some of my bases on solar and some are using electromagnetic generators. Early game I started an oxygen, copper, uranium, sodium bases. Just a few thousand units is all you need. As far as the auto miners they've never worked for me. I can't ever remember getting anything out of them. If you want to you can also get emeril and indium in the starter system. If you expand the indium with chromatic metal you can put it in a large refiner with gold an silver. which you can buy both of them. Then you can get 30X chromatic metal.
I think the autonomous mining units are useful to collect rusted metal. You place them, charge them, then save. And when you load the game some time later, some of them they still do mining. Then you process that rusted metal into ferrite dust. Seems like to be quicker than just shooting rocks.
As soon as I hear "glitch" I stopped. I don't understand people glitching in games and never have but I especially don't understand it now that we can enable creative mode at any moment.
Glitching requires a bit more effort than simply clicking a button in a menu, so there are people who view it as more legitimate than straight up creative mode.
Lol, building is the best place to glitch in this game.. The building is akward and I don't remember building freedom giving anyone a competitive edge in this exploration game.
It's so funny to me, in a single-player/coop adventure game, people mald over others using glitches, like, my brother in christ, at worst, they're destroying the game for them!
Not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but once you put in the fuel (with free space available for resources) or take the resources from the unit, let it sit on the screen for half a second and it will exit out for you automatically. This will resolve the bug for the AMU and the oxygen harvester
They are easy to set up. Do not require scavenging. Allow you to farm multiple minerals at the same base without having to build a complex energy infrastructure, or deal with base distance limits. For certain minerals, such as Magnetized Ferrite, which is annoying to obtain by other means, they have been a lifesaver. So, they are not "better" or "worse", they simply play their role in the gameplay loop. With that being said, I would really appreciate more automation in the game. For example the ability to connect extractors and storage depots directly to advanced refiners for automated crafting.
As a new player with less than 40 hrs, this is a game changer. I just tried and failed to use the mineral extractor. So I came to RUclips. I was also hoping to see if more automation was available but clearly it's not.
These are a leftover tech from before the industrial mining machines came out. In the bad days to build a stasis device farm we’d have to leave these scattered across planets and remember portal codes to visit and refuel every time we wanted to build a batch of SDs. So glad I don’t touch these anymore even on my new dupe-free permadeath save.
I was on a toxic fungal planet recently, didn't have much ammonia for recharging my shielding. Found a deposit nearby. Dropped an autonomous miner on the deposit. It kept me going for quite a while to build up my sols for the polo quest I was doing. Usually I will use them because it doesn't hit your terrain edits list that goes against you.
I whish AMU where easier to find after placing them and/or able to be connected to silos like the mineral extractors. It's real pain to be running from one to another each time I visit my bases.
Autonomous Mining Unit helps me got a lot more copper from one site without using terrain modifier. And that means no penalty from those pesky sentinels too.
Some people complaining that they can never find the mini units etc... Easy.. Go to a planet, say you want uranium.. Find two deposits within 200u near each other... Set up a base next to one and call the base 'Uranium' Then, set up a Base Teleporter and a short range Teleporter Now go to the other site 200u away, set up another short range Teleporter... Then you can go back and forth easily from your main Base planet through your main Base Teleporter regardless of what planet or system your main base is situated
Yeah I don't like these things. You have to stay near by, or they stop working and empty themselves. Faster and more efficient to do it with the terrain manipulator.
I don't understand why people bother using glitches. Why play a game that really isn't competitive then use cheats to totally reduce the worth of any perceived achievement in the game?
The whole point of these is so you don't have to mine the resource, why would you wait for it lol. Video helps me understand it now though because the game isn't very clear on its descriptions so thanks
video starts 1:42

Ferrite dust and oxygen makes rusted metal. 1:1 iirc. If you have an oxygen farm, you have all the chlorine and ferrite dust you could ever need.

@@Jmandude5 also you can't dupe with the difficulty settings you can only make things free.
The enjoyment people get from playing the game the way they want too, is not predicated on your understanding. I hope you understand.

they stop mining as soon as i enter a ship even if im right beside them.

I want to know something about the mining units and not about 2 or 3 glitches...
Yup. Same. Buddy needs to work on his title. I came here to learn about the mining unit and its limitations. This is just how to game the system.

A lot of the bugs with the AMU seemed to have been fixed before or for the Omega Expedition.
Can you supply fuel to the autonomous miners with the supply line from the under the industrial category?
Aren't you supposed to pipe them together so you only need to access one to get everything?
That's the way a friend of mine did it. I got 2500 copper from 1 machine.
Yeah I don't like these things. You have to stay near by, or they stop working and empty themselves.

Thank you for all you do for the community I appreciate your videos
If your going to go this route by wire glitching, you might as well go full hog and just dupe a stack of 9,999
or just put creative mode/free crafting on

The rate of mining with them is so slow it has never been worth it for me. Glitch or no glitch.
Keep it up mate I love the videos.
Over 1 minutes of talking about nothing else than the game.. Ffs
Not when you got two portables…..jus sayin
2 minutes of patreon rambling. disliked
I haven't seen anyone at the anomaly since 4.0 came out.
