Steve, enjoyed the video, like your tech tips and the way you explain as you go along. Thanks !
Thank you. Very helpful.
I was really curious about whether you could just take the screws out like you did and replace only the front part (without resweating). Very helpful. The comment about loosening the screws on the mount is helpful, too.
Very helpful, detailed information. Thanks for posting!
Those hoses look a little stiff!!! Maybe time to change the out! Keep up the great videos!!!
why not put some of that blue fritz stuff on them back gaskets mama!
good job Steve, you're the REAL workin' man
Hey Steven - super helpful video. Thanks so much for putting this out there. You gave me the courage to try this myself! If there are still drops of water when the Symmons valve is in off and the main water shutoff valve is off, do I need to somehow drain the pipe so when I take off the Symmons valve it won’t suddenly spray a ton of water all over the place? Or am I safe since it seems to be just a continuous slow drip? If I need to drain it, do you have any tips on easy ways to do it?
was a good time to change those hoses too they may blow when the gundy is applied!
Next time use a pipe wrench with a two foot extension to make sure to get those washing machine hose connections are nice and secure. You were going to town with those channel locks, one turn past finger tight should be plenty tight..
Man, those gaskets were tighter than two coats of paint! Doing the switcheroo! LOL. Great job Steve!
I just tried to turn my valve in 2023 after not touching it for over a decade. What I found is it's completely Frozen on when I took the panel off the wall I noticed that the top of where the valve is oars as phillips-head screw that severely rusted. But no other signs of water leakage outside of that screw-top being rested and I'm suspecting that that screw is the reason why it's frozen. This all came to fruition when my washer machine lid switch stopped working.
Thanx for the vid! Really great!
Any videos on repairing a drain and twist value gasket replacement
Who can I call to do work like this? I have a automatic shut off for a washing machine that may need to be replaced.
I've never seen a Symmons product here in the Philadelphia area, and in the Washington DC area. It must be a Boston thing.
From my limited experience they last about 15 years and then start leaking. I've replaced two shower valves and two of these washer valves at the 15 year mark. It's a brand used around Boston for some reason.
Symmons is at my house which I'm about to try replacing, fingers crossed!
The factory is in Braintree, just outside Boston.
What was wrong with the original valve?
on off it was leaking by ,will not shut off anymore
There are two plungers inside the valve body, they are actuated by a cam action when the lever handle is moved, there is an O-rings on the stem of the plunger and a rubber washer on the end, similar to a washer found on a multi turn stop valve under your sink. The sealing washer deteriorates, it gets hard or brittle, especially on the hot side. Also over time, minerals in the water create deposits that gum up the works.
@@qwertypoi654 Symmons used to sell a repair kit. I would go to Home Depot buy a new valve, swap out the guts and return the valve. I recently bought a Symmons valve with nylon straps on the box and the new valve was harder to open and close than the one I was replacing that had a slight leak where the handle is attached. Once bought a Delta shower where the box looked unopened but the cartridge was swapped out with an old used one. The replacement cartridge is $10 than a new valve with trim and a gooseneck with a showerhead.
Strange washing machines there! None of the washing machines here in Finland can be opened once the washing cycle begins. The machine always locks the door shut - until washing cycle is completed.
It's an older machine, in the past ten years all top loading models have the locking lid feature.
Does anyone know if it's possible just to swap out the gaskets? I have one of these and both hot and cold leak...dripdripdrip
If it's leaking at the gaskets or the fire washers, sure just replace those. A repair kit is $15, if you can find one. I take apart all the valves I replace and rebuild them with new O-rings and washers and lube everything with silicone grease. The valves used to be $25, now they're $65 or more, ridiculous.
Good video Steve
Another symmons valve I never see here. Watts washer valve and plain old boiler drains are commonplace around here
That was a lot easier than the quarter turn into shitshow w the cardboard finish. It’s like forest said. Ya neva know what ya gonna get.
My screws have been loose since birth
Hey , quit screwing around ... lol ... another good vid ...
give it the old gundy and get flippin paid Mama
Steve where's the baby dog? Peace
