      Except he wasn't moral-less ... it was his morals that compelled him to act against a morel-less system. He may have committed immoral acts, but he is far from moral-less, he's not sociopathic.

      @crewie94 2 года назад +14

      @@timm7071 Whilst I love your point I mean it in a Neitzsche(ian) sense. He is to me a symbol of humanitys freedom of will, whilst those around him represent a "false" morality of a particular society, detached from its natural sense of right and wrong.
      I also think the character inarguably exhibits sociopathic tendencies at times in the movie. Humans can be driven to such things. The the character changes as his ideologies are challenged even after such tragic circumstances, because the rest of the humans didn't and quite frankly couldn't experience the horror he witnessed, therefore are truly unable to empathise for the most part.

      @@inpugnaveritaas If you believe morality to be reflected in the massacre of other humans then you've got a bizzare interpretation in my opinion.
      His sense of morality is absolutely shattered by his experiences. It's part of what makes his character so beautiful. He's a good man at heart, but his heart has been annihilated by a gross act. The perpendicularity of human kindness and hatred.

      You don't realize it, but in the end he was a victor. He made the prosecutor learn his lesson - no deals with murderers, you can only kill murderers, not negotiate with them. He basically made Nick kill him. Did he know it? Could he figure out that Nick would eventually find the evidence? Yes. Clyde chose to die - hence the smile in the end.

    • @superjuggie14
      @superjuggie14 2 года назад +3

      I read a cool theory on the ending that I never thought of. Basically when they met with the spy to gather intel on what Nick actually did for work the guy tells them that he once killed someone by suffocating him with his tie. At the end of the movie you see Jamie Foxx at his daughters play and then he reaches for his tie as if to loosen it.. Cool to think of nick lining up back ups in case he lost in the end.

    • @darrenc2721
      @darrenc2721 2 года назад +3

      @@Raiseflag_Surrender Clyde planned this, it was hinted early on by the mysterious man in the tunnel, that he was playing with everyone. Nick is one of those "uncorruptable lawyer guys". Essentially it means you cannot teach someone like that, what real suffering is, unless you bring them up/down to your level.
      Clyde turned Nick into the only thing that would make him understand. A murderer. Devil is in the details. Clyde got what he wanted in the end. To rejoin his family was always the end game. Nick had to be pushed over the line though to achieve it. it was a tragic but predictable outcome.

      This is exactly what my book is about. Take a good man, who makes his life's work about making the world better. Arm him with virtue. Make him to walk upright. Then take everything good in his life away from him by the very system he swore to uphold. The only thing left for that man is revenge. The further he goes along that road, the more he unites with the human proclivity for evil, eventually paving the way to his own personal hell.

      @@rileymclaughlin4831 Except the whole point of the movie was to lambast the justice system, and as we've seen recently with televised trials, the prosecutions of many of these cities are about securing convictions NOT finding justice, even though that is the literal definition of their job title. These are people that will railroad literally innocent people into prisons because the prisons, often run by private companies _need_ inmates to justify their expenses to the government, who in turn kick back to judges and prosecutors offices in the form of excess budget surpluses.

    • @SuigaRou
      @SuigaRou 2 года назад +2

      @VoltDenatsu He's a lawyer though. Lawyers are paid good money to make sure people use the right words, a good one wouldn't walk away from the table accepting the wrong words as a confession. Especially considering that's the one thing he was there to collect.

    • @SuigaRou
      @SuigaRou 2 года назад +2

      @@rileymclaughlin4831 I don't feel like that fits his character though. To me it seemed like he was written to be a shark, out for wins and holding his record in high regard, which was why he made a deal with Darby in the first place. He also says later in the movie that he's "the best", so I don't think he'd be willing to put a scratch on that over his ideals. I dunno, maybe the writers were trying to show how cocky he was at this point.

      I don’t know if that’s necessarily true. If he had just left it at “fuck no”, Gerard Butler would have still gone to court and explained that there is no evidence against him and that he should have bail posted, but then still flipped out at the judge for allowing that to happen given that he is a possible murderer, and then the rest of the movie unfolds the way in which it did. Unless I’m missing something (which is quite possible given that I haven’t seen it in quite a while) regardless of whether the mattress is given to Gerard Butler in exchange for a confession or not, the mayhem is going to happen.

    Yes but even a man whom looses everything must still ask himself does he want to become a monster in a fit of rage of vengeance and retribution in trying to appease his loss? And does the environment really need another monster. As if we all did that well life's experiences would not be very nice for the masses. See I've lost things in this world it's called having any desire for it, you see to me based upon my position in life have identified that there is nothing for me out there in this environment called planet earth.
