    Thanks Parmy for this tutorial. I bought my first prop from CG trader just this week and I had all kinds of trouble with it because I downloaded the obj. instead of the fbx. You've helped a lot. There are so many little questions about things like this that cause a lot of problems for me in Daz Studio.

      You're welcome. There are other websites such as www.turbosquid.com, sharecg and even deviantart have some decent freebies. I'm sure there are many more websites, however these are the ones I use frequently.

    Thank you for the great tutorial again, Parmy. Nice to see how you show importing 3d models. Yes, the formats don't always work the same but as you mentioned, try different formats at see which one imports best into Daz. Thumbs up.

    Thank you for the tutorial. More advanced stuff like this does not really exist in video tutorial formats on youtube.
    (In a lot of cases, i found fbx files dont import properly to daz, so i convert to obj in blender when this is the case.)

      I will admit I got lucky with this prop and the FBX file format worked without any issues. However, I did try both file formats FBX and OBJ hoping one of them would give me the ideal result, which the FBX format did.

    Also it would be much appreciated if you could make a tutorial on how to make movement morphs for clothing. Maybe others would be interrested in that to?

    Thanks for the tutorial. I've been looking for a way to add a mesh to an existing figure then weight map it to a bone. Adding bones to figures is no problem, it is just adding the new mesh that I am unfamiliar with. Any tips there?
    Use case would be to add props to a figure so it can be used in a single Puppeteer graph (e.g. Steering Wheel to Gen 8 for synced puppeteering).

    Great tutorial. I would love to see one on how to rig an FBX figure. Even if you just showed the leg. I want to rig a free Battle Pod model from Robotech. It's in OBJ format. I need to rig the legs and feet to bend and rotate (but just bend would be fine). I also need the guns to swivel and the engines to rotate 360 degrees.

    • @ParmyBaddhan
      @ParmyBaddhan  4 года назад

      The method is very similar to this tutorial. It just requires a lot more work to rig from what you are asking. I suggest you try to rig a small part of the item (the foot for example) using the tutorial as a guide. With rigging it just takes practice. My rigging skills are very basic, however it is enough for me to get the solution I require from the items I use in my scenes.

      Yes, there is a lot to take in, in the video. However the more your stretch yourself the better you become at your craft. We need to do things that are outside of our comfort zone for growth to occur. Unfortunately I don't make PDF's tutorials anymore. There are however timestamps in the description that should help.

      @@jeronimocollares320 You can have as many layers of geoshells as you want. However with each additional geoshell the memory demands will increase meaning more VRAM is required to render via GPU. If this is just for one character, maybe 2 characters you should be ok with an 8GB VRAM Nvidia GPU.

    22:00 I didnt watched the full video now, but at that point woudl I say, you should add a third bone (+ showing how to make a longer bone chain) to let the flapp open more smoth and lesser static, but maybe... this will happen with weightmap? But I don't think so.

    • @ParmyBaddhan
      @ParmyBaddhan  4 года назад

      You are correct. I could have added further bones to make the flap look more realistic. Maybe adding dforce weight maps and applying dforce could be another alternative solution to make the flap look more real in terms of gravity. For the backpack in my comic I did not require that level of realism.

    FBX carries a lot of cross-platform information with the 3D file, such as keyframes, bones, morphs, maps, etc... it would be the preferred method if, for whatever reason, FBX files imported into Daz properly. FBX is vastly superior to OBJ in that entire scenes can be moved from say Max to Daz, or from C4D to DS. Obj is not a better format to import, it is simpler and thus more consistent importing into Daz. The point being, that FBX will EXPORT from Daz and there is a robust export panel in doing so, and whole DS scenes can be exported to more sophisticated programs. It is worth remembering that for Daz, FBX importing and exporting are two different animals and FBX export from Daz is powerful and can be clean and problem free. Don't let the FBX import issue, discourage you from using FBX in other ways.

    • @ParmyBaddhan
      @ParmyBaddhan  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I didn't think my FBX vs OBJ would cause such a discussion in the comments. I certainly did not intend to say one is better than the other. It was more of try both file formats of the free prop inside Daz Studio and hopefully one will give you the better results and foundation for rigging the prop.

    When using FBX files and importing them into Daz 99.9% of the time you will get this error: transform differences: non uniform scale detected. Results will likely be different. What this means is the figure you are importing will be completely blown out. It will also not automatically have maps loaded and placed for you. More times then not the free models from most sites are broken or have been created improperly. This leads to coding errors in scripts when trying to open them in programs outside of the one originally used to create the product. For this reason obj. Is your best bet. When people make videos they need to show all aspects of the crap they are showing. The good the bad and the ugly. What this dude is showing was that 1% best case and scenario. Daz studio is NOT!!!!!!! a 3D editing software nor has it ever been. To the guy making these videos.. I see you are just trying to help people but dude you are talking to people that have no idea half the shit involved in 3D animation. The "advanced" people using 3D programs have gone to school for this shit and damn sure aren't watching your videos. So labeling it advanced is silly at best.

      Thanks for your comment. Yes, I will admit that I got lucky with this free prop in terms of the FBX format working inside Daz Studio without any issues. I agree that the OBJ file format is more compatible inside Daz Studio than FBX. The point I was trying to make was try both files FBX and OBJ as one maybe better than the other. The whole point of the video was to show how to rig something that is a free prop inside Daz Studio. I understand that Daz Studio is not 3D editing software, but if you wish to create content for Daz Studio then you need to know weight mapping, rigging and how ERC works inside Daz Studio. I don't know what your end goal is but for beginners (my target audience) who are learning Daz Studio, this is advanced stuff. If you have advanced knowledge then please start your own RUclips channel and share with the RUclips community so we can all learn.
