- So, you wanna run a sluice in Oregon and not get bothered by "The Janitors" (forest service)?! Have we got a spot for you!!! We decided to just do some panning and crevicing at this spot today and try out the drone; big thanks to John for bringing that out! Water was a little low and we didn't feel much like moving rocks to get the sluice in the water. Lots of float gold still coming down the creek leaving smalls right on top of the bedrock... some nice size gold can be found along the old bank lines on either side of the creek. Just upstream of the bridge crossing the creek at beaver hollow has always been good.
I used to get at least a pennyweight to 2 pennyweight a day sluicing on graves creek back in the 80s.
Also clean your black sand from graves creek with nitric acid after you separate the gold. You will be pleasantly surprised how much maganese covered gold hides in the black sand.
Long time since I've been in that area. Never seen Graves Creek that low.
I just call it 11 mile paradise. 🤷 Found it on a hunch a couple months ago..but didn't realize i could get into that area.. Appreciate the share.

Are we talking Grave Creek or Graves creek? I'm thinking you are talking Grave creek beside Grave Creek road? Lariat Drive exit off the 5?
No sir. Graves Creek. Straight through Merlin and then up past Gallice. I believe it'd actually Galice Road and then after the bridge it turns into Graves Creek road. You're tslkikg about the other side of the creek near Sunny Valley I do believe.

@@the_oregonist Quartz Creek is pretty much all private property from what we understand. We do work for some folks and they have let us pan on their small section of the creek and we've found a few pokers

Not really sure. We honestly haven't heard from Danny (the clUB owner) in MONTHS. If you're Southern Oregon local you can sign up at Armadillo Mining in Grants Pass.
I thought Graves creek was pretty much all claimed up.
Everything above Ruben creek is claimed up yup. But there is a good 1.5 miles between Ruben and the rogue that isn't
Every tributary of the rogue river for (I believe) a quarter mile upstream of the river itself cannot be claimed. I'll see if I can find the link to the blm page and revisit this comment.
