It's amazing that Kasparov is so clearly out of shape, he loses most of his games, yet his games are still the ones that everyone's the most interested in along with Carlsen's just because he is who he is. It's a testament to how great he was in his prime, and even though he really doesn't play enough where he could be competitive here it seems he still puts butts in the seats when he does play.

Kasparov dedicates his time to other projects now. I don’t think chess takes up so much of his life as it used to take. Check out the other work he has been doing. The man is remarkable. People who expect Kasparov to win every game today or be the mightiest of opponents fail to realize that chess players can choose to prioritize something else eventually. Even more after being the absolute best for 20 years.

It's so strange to see hundreds of comments bashing Garry and saying that he's so bad and can't compete. All of you probably forgot his results in recent comeback tournaments. For example, he finished 2017 STL Blitz event with 9/18, beating beasts like Nakamura, Caruana and Dominguez. It's not like he suddenly became a bad player in a couple of years - it's just one bad tournament. Let him play, enjoy the games, and hopefully he will do much better in the next comeback events.

That demolishing of a legend was hard to watch. I was reminded of the comeback fights of Mike Tyson and hoped Kasparov throws in the towel. He made big blunders. But really bad was his time management. Spending 2 minutes in the opening in a blitz game is strange for such a strong player. It seemed that he was frozen and could not move. Some Darts players have this kind of symptom when they are not able to release the dart. I'm afraid the nightmare continues today for Kasparov.

Kasparov is not playing serious chess for many years now, he just attends those tournaments for fun. If he had not quit the game , I am sure he would still be one of the top 10 players. He quit when computer trained chess players start to dominate chess world. That is another reason now he appears to be weak. He is not training with computers as young grandmasters do for many years now.

No one today was alive to witness, but the world saw a similar slow fade from former champions as well. As an example, Capablanca played for decades after losing the world title, and while often competitive, his diminished competitiveness was a force of reality and nature. These situations are important to us, so that we can see the inevitable decline in the human condition, and adjust our expectations accordingly.

@@funcionamaldito What? don't be miserable. I'm not the former world champion so it cant be about my insecurities, even the majority of GM-IMs would agree, everyone has an honor/reputition. 0.5/9 and losing 95 ELO in 1 day is just bad, very bad.

    •  3 года назад +1

@@Figgy20000 I mean, first of all, Garry is " arguably " the GOAT, Magnus is in that conversation as well. And aging is very important chess, that's I agree too. But, he didn't play rapid because he knew he would lose so he thought he had a chance in blitz.
If he scored 7/8 people would praise him, so we can criticize when someone scoring 0.5/9 regardless of his age, he has honor, scoring 0.5/9 and losing nearly 100 ELO points is very very bad for your prestige. H should not have played. If you ask this question to Kasparov, even he would agree that it was a mistake to compete. ( remember Anand is not too young too, but he didn't score 0.5/9 )
