I was very lucky to have met three gentlemen who wrote books on the swords. Back in 1969-71 period I got to meet them for some important lectures on some very important blades and fitting. After wards I was lucky enough to buy a group of artifacts from them. I still have all of it laying around on display. My favorite piece is a iron tsuba 1500 period with a gorilla dressed as a samurai never saw one like that before super kool.
To bad the Shogun tried so hard erasing him from history that all we have left is nothing but exaggerations, things that we can't tell fact from fiction
I'm an Okc based artificer, if there's any more pictures of Muramasa's pieces, I'd love to see them. I have some project swords I'll be making this winter while attempting to recreate his mental state with my own artistic license, all the passion, but my kind of crazy.
@Carl Coriell my first public pieces are being made now, probably finished in springtime, if you'd like to see them it'd be on ferromancerartstudio on ig.
i have heard muramasa cut everything, the wind the water the leaves and fish, masamune cut the air the water instead of a v shaped ripple reconnected behind the blade some leaves and some fish. The monk then said that muramasa cut all in its path with fury and indiscriminate purpose whereas masamune cut gently with choice, seeing innocence was its virtue as it cut some fish and some not, some leaves and some hinged on the edge and simply turned and got carried by the current around the blade.
I had a shorter katana signed Muramasa, Ise province. Probably a later smith, maybe a 200 yr old blade. It had kizu(flaws), a small crack thru the hamon. The tsuba was outstanding, mokku or melon shape with a chiseled melon on one side, very fine gold wire outlines of a butterfly & melon vines on the other. I sold it to David E.J. Pippen, who was a collector/dealer in the 1970s.
Maybe one of the reproductions/fakes produced during the Bakumatsu period. But it being a fake does not mean it is worthless: this actually had a history behind it, since anti-shogunate forces are more than willing to commission a reproduction or a fake as long as it is a Muramasa, which was the antithesis to the Tokugawa shogunate.
I heard that story multiple times now and this is the first time i heard that the leaf didn't cut. I always heard they both cut the wind and the water but the fish was the difference because of life and it's innocence.

Muramasa was insane, but that does not make his swords evil.
Yeah we can use those swords to kill demons

Can you make a video with pictures of the real swords by Muramasa and describing them, so hard to find information in English
Most of the Muramasas where destroyed when the Tokugawa Shogunate came to power, so they are extremely rare, and also very very expensive.
