If bushido emphasizes respect, integrity and honor for themselves and enemies, why did the Japanese soldiers commit so many atrocities in WW2? No thanks, I’ll pass on bushido. Thumbs down.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It's important to address this question with both honesty and historical nuance.
True Bushido-the ethical code of the samurai-emphasizes virtues like honor, integrity, compassion, and respect. However, the events of World War II reveal how philosophies can be distorted when taken out of their proper context or wielded to serve political or militaristic agendas. What was often presented as 'Bushido' during that time was a militarized and manipulated version, stripped of its spiritual core and original intent.
The samurai of old believed that honor was inseparable from humility and compassion. In Hagakure, for instance, Yamamoto Tsunetomo reminds us that the way of the warrior is ultimately about self-discipline and service to others, not unchecked violence or cruelty. When Bushido becomes untethered from these principles, it ceases to be Bushido at all.
Your skepticism is valid, and history reminds us to be vigilant against misusing ideals. However, I’d encourage you to look deeper at the original philosophy-its lessons on living with purpose, integrity, and mindfulness can inspire anyone to lead a life of greater meaning.
Wishing you wisdom and clarity on your journey
