ANC is switched on/off by the power button. You can see a purple light, however there is no way to check if ANC is activated or not, you just have to get the idea from the light hissing you get.
Fantastic set of cans! I'm a huge Senny fan with just about everything they make (made) in my collection. I've always been happy with their 450BT series, and this one in particular is my go to when traveling. My only issue is the earpads which aren't too roomy for my big-ish ears, I replaced them with a set of aftermarket ones (Brainwavz for those who care) and this made them all but perfect! As for the noise cancelling, these work fine, and they start up with it on, and I think you unfortunately got a dud. Great review Matt, love the skipping start 😂

Just bought these and same issue. I don’t know that you can turn off the ANC. Idk though I may return these and buy the step up. Love love the brand these are definitely more entry level than the last ones I had that I lost

these Sennheiser's HD 450BT's are 129 ( Canadian ) 95 ( USD ) for black friday....i just need a set of headphones for watching netflix and my ipad for movies and utube....the noise cancellation and calls are not important but good sound is ....would these be a good buy ?....cheers from Canada

I found this video because I'm also trying to find the answer. I got mine to "work", but it's really not effective. I have them on and am watching this video on my laptop (not paired to the headphones) - on/off is distinctly different. I press the button once and the video sounds a bit muffled and far away, and I press it again and suddenly his voice is clear with no muffled white noise around it. I don't know how that counts as noise cancelling, since I've never used noise cancelling headphones before... but it's clearly doing something when the light flashes purple...
