    I've just bought a 2021 Corsa Electric, moving from a 2019 Seat Arona Petrol. I drive 10-15 miles round trip from work per day. I don't have a home charger due to where my house is so I drive my Corsa to a local rapid charger and charge there once per week. 30 minutes and its all good! Used to pay £80-90 on petrol per month, worked out I'll pay at least half of that (maybe less) per month on electric.
    I've yet to try it on a long road trip but something to look forward to in the summer!

    Since I have solar I charge at home for free. It saves me tons of money vs when we had our Prius as a primary vehicle.

    Thanks for the info. I do find that the cost of a charge says very little. Sure, it's cheap to charge but then you spent around £55-60k to have that benefit. I'm not sure how much they are today, but the point I'm trying to make is that you could have bought a similar sized ICE car which would have cost you £10-15k less. That difference allows for a lot of fuel fill ups as well. You need to do extra math on how many miles you need to drive the Tesla before there's *real* profit, I think.
    Don't get me wrong, I'm tempted as well. Did a testdrive with a model 3 performance last week and came away very impressed. I do have solar on my roof but even then I'd have to drive tens of thousands of miles to get the investment back compared to an ICE car. At this point I'd be buying it for reasons of tax deductibility as I'm self-employed.
    Fair enough: that ICE car will never have the performance but then how often can you use that power anyway? I had the car in chill mode most of that testdrive because I was in a train of traffic. You don't need 500bhp for that. You could do that with 50bhp.

    • @stevieev
      @stevieev  Год назад +1

      Thank you for watching and commenting Spencer 👍 I think the ICE comparison works if you'd buy a regular type of ICE car and your running costs would be minimal. If you go and buy something like a used BMW M3, the purchase may be cheaper but the petrol you go through every month will take it up to what you could lease a Tesla M3P for. You're right though, you have to include the purchase price. It's the same as when I see people spend 15k on solar and proudly state they charge for free!! No, your first charge was 15k!!

      @spencerpieters5502 Год назад +1

      @@stevieev You're right about solar: anything that has to be made comes with a cost for the environment. That hole needs to be filled first before there's any benefit. Same with windmills etc. And the same problem poses itself financially. We get *some* money for injecting surplus solar energy back into the grid but it's very, very little (I live in Belgium). I haven't done the math yet but that surplus energy might be worth more if I stuff it into an EV battery.
      I'm still undecided. Loved the testdrive, loved the car. I just don't think the model 3 is a good looking car. For some reason the model S seems to have better proportions allround, if that makes sense. Tempted to wait for the model 3 facelift they're talking about.

    • @stevieev
      @stevieev  Год назад

      @@spencerpieters5502 the Model S is a magnificent car, if you could stretch to the new models. The older ones are getting a bit long in the tooth now I think, older tech etc.
      I like the look of the 3 but I understand why some wouldn't, it's all very subjective. Would be interesting to wait for the updated 3, if it looks much different is yet to be seen and will it be 'better' or have cost saving measures? I don't know if your tax requirements would cover used cars at all but some real bargains out there.

    • @spencerpieters5502
      @spencerpieters5502 Год назад

      @@stevieev Well, the way I see it is this: I don't really like the current Model 3 from the outside (there's nothing wrong with it from the inside, I think) so a facelift can't make that any worse. Best-case scenario: it's a better looking car, I like it more. Worst-case scenario: I still don't like it. Knowing Tesla the update *will* be an improvement in tech, consumption etc. That's why I would buy a Tesla ... because it still beats pretty much every other ev out there when it comes to weight and performance.

    I dont think you are correct by saying you cant compare a normal car to a tesla performance regarding price because a normal car doesnt have the performance. Many people drive 99% of the time in rush hour 20-30 mike an hour towns and cities, or average speed csmera mototways where the pwrformance is of no use at all and probably an hindrance. They wouldnt even consider a performance vehicle for every day use. They want a car with enough cabin and boot space for them their family and equipment.

    • @stevieev
      @stevieev  Год назад

      Exactly though Paul, maybe that's where you'd compare a regular petrol car to a MG4 or something like that. I think I'd need to replay the video to see exactly what I said to make sure I'm seeing the comparison 😊

    Bought my 2023 M3Perf - for cash - MAR 19 - GREAT CAR - too much hype on charging B.S....
    My Tesla Gen 3 Charger cost ~$500 u.s. bucks - my cost is, like, 10cents u.s., as I only charge during super CHEAP time - as I work from home - no problemo, Man - charging during cheapest time of the day - charge time is FAST, for me...
    I used a super charger station, TWICE; very expensive and would not have bought this car if I had to "supercharge" it, daily - NO WAY!! However, at .10cents u.s., low charge cost - no Brainer, for a 21st and a half century automobile!!
    Lastly, my 2017 hyundai ioniq BLUE hybrid was a MUCH more efficient vehicle - never needed maintenance, except for oil changes, and it got +55 miles per GALLON - so, my gas savings, is not that great - WHEN i must "supercharge" my tesla...
    BTW - This is not a road trip car - honestly - it is a city car that does MARVELOUS in the CITY - say, 100 miles round trip, daily.
    HTHs -- oh yeah, range sucks!! 300+ miles per charge???? B.S. can't even charge to 100% without burning up the battery.
    ;-]]
    So, get a brain, drain and see the facts and lose the B.S,,,
