Please please please give us an option to have floating panels with a bit of space when maxed out windows! I would love that as it looks really good aesthetically
Whats missing in panel is mouse hover in dock size mode, currently if you want to use it as a dock and set it at windows can cover it does not show when you hover the mouse to the panel area, like other docks.. you have to minimize all windows to see the panel. you should check that, when any window is maximizes panel dock goes under but when mouse hover the area it appears back,, It does happen sometimes currently but its just lucky hit and miss
one thing that needs change im plasma tasks is when I have 2 or more open windows for a task, down there on task icon, show a + symbol, which is ugly, CHANGE IT IN DOTS OR DASHES, or smth better looking :).
Plasma 6 will surprise with a quick settings menu in the system tray? I mean at least as an alternative plasmoid? I have been waiting to see such a feature for a long time and possibly many other users too. Something similar to what's in Plasma Mobile would be great on the desktop. Even Gnome has a feature like this.
Question: in KDE PLASMA 6 will be Dolphin finally have fix TAB size option. Similarly in Kwrite Kate Open Recent why file name + [full path to the file ...] it can be long. Thanks
Something that could help you guys with development and bug testing. You could create mouse and keyboard macros that open and close and manipulate all aspects of the GUI. Then you can connect them together randomly to simulate as many valid combinations as possible. This could help you find bugs in an automated manner. I'm looking forward to testing KDE plasma 6 when it drops.
First of all I want to say BIG thanks for everything you did and do and will do for the KDE and Linux. It's because of KDE I stay at Linux and lov it. Big Thanks from The Swedish Linux
An idea for the floating panel, may or may not be feasible. If you are using the kwin tiling (meta + t) have it continue to float when tiled windows touch it, respecting the padding value
For panel dodge windows, can you change the response time for it to toggle on and off? I have to pulse in and opposite of the direction where the panel is to bring it back.
I hope we'll get step by step undo for editing some time... and a cancel that brings you back to what you had before you started editing. It's the biggest gripe I have with Plasma.
Hi Nikko, Coming into this a bit late and Testing Beta 2 (as of 24th Dec) on an i5 Surface Pro, I noticed that in the Settings > Display where there's the option to Rotate the screen, someone has forgotten that Tablets and Convertibles are beconing very poular and KDE 6 is likely to land on more than just mine. So what is Missing, is an Auto-Rotate Toggle, like the one in Mint Cinnaom for example. I know that rotating the screen is not a part of KDE that is 'your project', but when I tried reporing it to the KDE bugs link, (and I accidentally posted the report twice because it's 10 years since I tested KDE) I was told it was resolved (with my second request being the resolution apparently). All that is needed to fix this, is not even a code thing. It is simply to include: gawk and iio-sensor-proxy in the build. Both packages are in the repo already. Any chance you can pass the suggestion on to whoever is responsible for stuff like that. Just for info, once I do Oops - I was tired (I've fixed the line below): sudo apt install gawk iio-sensor-proxy and reboot, the Toggle for 'Orientation ( ) Automatic' Option appears and I can set it on. So it isn;t a high tech fix, and since it had been an often requested feature during Plasma 5, it would enhance Plasma 6 for those who like Convertibles like Yoda and some Spectres etc. if someone can just add those two packages. So far though, Kde 6 Beta 2 and Wayland are playing together very nicely, although I did manage to find an installer problem that is not related to the Plasma Desktop, that broke my secondary computer and I had to do a complete rehash of my hard drive. I'll have to let other people 'experience the surprise' for themselves, because now I'm just not game to report bugs that actually break stuff to bugs.kde.org. They don't take kindly to suggestions 🙂 Not like ten years ago when I used to do a lot of testing. Your videos are the main reason I came back to KDE, although you would not like what I have done to 'my' KDE 5 . .
Hi nicco i am simple user and have two very simple question. I hope you will consider them to apply in kde plasma. 1. Please include driver manager like linux mint has it helps alot for installing wifi and display driver. 2. Please add sperate tool for uninstall apps and themes that completely remove all the settings along with removing app so if we need to install them we don't have to go and remove conflicts file.
Show your chops. Explain why some linux Distros will put their NAME into the computer bios boot menu - while others will only list what the Distro is based on ?
As an electric electrical engineer for 15 years of experience, I can tell you that don’t care conditions always crash software. Verify information in plasma by checking the allowed ranges and not allowing other ranges. Great work and a great project! I have actually one question... if I add second monitor, will the panel be displayed on it? Currently it doesn't work!... and doesn't exist simply "copy" method to add panel to new screen :-(
Nicco the only thing I didn't like about the current version of Plasma 5.27.9 is you can install theme's with one click but you can not uninstall them with on click, shouldn't be just as easy to remove something that you added. Makes me not want to try other themes. Thanks for all you do out there you absoulutely make the world a better place.
nice, nice Nicco, is there a specific reason why Panel Position option does not have a cascade menu like the other ones? I still feel the blue panel border on panel edit mode is awkward.. .. and that maybe custom panel width is just an option too much. did you ever try app menu button on the left and task manager in the middle? KDE settings panels and calendar widget has become unusable in modest hardware due to screen size fatness abuse (ex of the x220 Thinkpads, the pi, even the deck).
