    You know what, rare plants are very nice but the “common “ plants can be equally as beautiful and are much easier in my opinion to take care of. I love my domino she’s not rare but she’s a beauty🌺💚🙃

  • @judymckerrow6720
    @judymckerrow6720 2 года назад +22

    Instead of saying rare, people need to start calling them expensive. Because these “rare” plants are are out there, but growers like to drive up the price ☹️ and make people think it’s a newly discovered plant and there are only a few in captivity when in reality they’re mass producing them.🌺💚🙃 And yes I probably woke up on the wrong side of the bed today😵‍💫🌺💚🙃

      True

    • @okanaganblonde4095
      @okanaganblonde4095 2 года назад

      “Uncommon” might be even more accurate than expensive. For example, where I live you can get an alocasia cuprea or silver sword philodendron which are still considered uncommon, but they’re $4 or $5 so not necessarily expensive. I think it was Kaylee Ellen that explained the uncommon versus rare thing. Rare means its limited existence in nature and the plant world makes it hard to get. Whereas uncommon is something more like a Thai constellation. Still rather unlikely to find in a big box store, but ultimately super available if you have the money.

    Gorgeous domino, but a word of warning on the asparagus fern- try not to touch the fronds the heat from our hands burns them and they can turn yellow😥 Absolutely loved that 3 legged blue pot,so stunning! I really enjoy seeing the selection of plants that are available in the States, thanks for sharing (also appreciate your slow and steady camera work!!👌)

    The asparagus fern is not a true fern, and the soil should get somewhat dry in between waterings. I have them in the backyard and they've survived periods of drought/neglect, but not over-watering. You picked out a nice pot for it! Fun.

    Love, love everything you purchased! Be careful not to play with fronds on your fern, they DO NOT like it. I thing I would have also purchased the hoya mix that had the huge splashed leaves and the goldfish plant because it was so lush ad vibrant.

    My domino peace lily seems to be the chillest one I have. Maybe he's a little behind the rest with his water needs so he doesn't have to droop to remind me, but I've not had any problems. I love peace lilies-- the beautiful, sleek modern design of the blooms and the simple, glossy curvature of the leaves are perfection.
    Now, the beginning of the video had me slightly confused. Though I don't know you personally, it seemed out of character. I thought those comments could be annoying, but not worth an opening rant, so when you haaaa!'d us, I was relieved, actually, because it means you don't take yourself too seriously!
    I totally dig your crazy, planty channel. You have a great smile. Keep 'em coming and keep us guessing! :))

    I have had Dominos for years! Most underrated variegated plant, in my opinion. I have them throughout my home in various degrees of humidity and they just don’t care. I do however keep them in a brighter light. I feel it does improve their variegation. They will tell you when thirsty, so good for people who underwater. I tend to get brown tips on my white tipped leaves. However, I give them tap water mainly and rain water during the winter months. Leaves last forever on them and their “flowers” can be variegated too. Excellence choice!

    I thought there was some drama going on, but I'm glad it was just a joke. ;) I love the asparagus fern, especially with that new pot you got. I have a heartless fern that I just put in a terrarium to see if it'll grow a bit better, fingers crossed.

    Your friends at Costa Farms have a new variety of peace lily called Jet Diamond. It's supposed to be a lot like Domino but with more variegation. I love checking out the little fairy garden/terrarium plants! Low cost starter plants that do get big over time! My favorite nursery carries those same round creamy-colored terra cotta pots and they will drill a hole for you. One word of caution about them is that if the plant becomes root bound, it can be difficult to remove due to the shape of the pot being wider in the center than the top. That's why most pots are more cone-shape. But they are really alluring! I have one I just use as a cachepot.

    I only water my peace Lilly when it starts to droop. No more than that. It’s a very informative plant to tell you it’s thirsty. I got a green form and variegation started to come out of my new leaves. It’s massive!! Two gallon pot sized leaves are two feet plus long. Love my peace Lilly it’s flowered many times for me! Rewarding for sure.

    I do let my asparagus fern dry out the roots are thick! I bottom water. It gets some bright indirect morning light. Then med light the rest the day. It hangs out w my prayer plant family and does well. It’s fun to watch grow, it latched on to my hanging micans leaves and they intertwined and then he went up my blinds 😆. Fun fact - asparagus fern is not really a fern. So weird 🤓

    Congrats on the Domino! What I have learned - with my own environment and peace lilies is to keep them away from heat or a/c vents and not right up against a window. They bounce back easily and I’ve found prefer distilled water and a higher humidity (not necessary - mine just prefer it). I’ve had them re flower several times - but the most impressive has been this last time after I top dressed it with worm castings and moved to our bathroom away from the vents. Also - the new growth has not formed brown tips. Okay - that was a lot - sorry! Good luck!

    On the domino peacefully, if you let it go between waterings until it starts drooping, and then water it, a.k.a. stress it out a little it will produce inflorescences.

    Those were great prices across the board. That's the most variegation I've seen on a 'Domino' - lovely. I find my peace lilies to be really easy; some late afternoon direct sun and don't let them dry out completely is working well for me.

    Great video, Ashley! I go to King’s about every two weeks and I remember when the Silver Swords came in. They were very small and in 4” pots @.$69.99. I remember rounding it up to $70.00 in my head. They have grown quite a bit if they are some of the same ones. Would love to have one but I have to justify the price or wait for however long it takes the market price to come down. 😊. However, they are lovely and the ones I saw were very healthy. Loved all the plants you purchased, especially the fern and the pot. They looked so elegant together! Well done! 👏🌿🥰💚

      Dominos actually prefer to dry out a little bit more than the regular form, and need a lot more light that the regular! Especially to keep the variegation! Good luck, definitely one of. Faves!

    Also, FYI, asparagus fern is actually it a fern it is part of the asparagus family and though it does like to be moist, it can be quite drought tolerant!

    I have both the fern and peace Lily .the fern I have had for a long time keep it moist but not wet that's it's grows like crazy ..the peace Lily droops when I forget to water it but it aways bounces back again I have had this plant forever ...I think in your plant haul should be for plants only and pots not included 😊

    I think you made some good choices with the domino peace lily and the alocasia (nothing against asparagus ferns, they are just not my cup of tea), good luck controlling the spider mites, sounds like a good plan!

    I don't think there is a difference between the more white and creamy variegation in marble queen pothos. I bought mine because the variegation was so intense white, now it has a lot of leaves with creamier variegation or even yellow variegation. Nothing like a golden pothos, but just not that white anymore. It gets enough light though, so I think it just varies plant to plant and in my experience it changes as the plant gets older :)
