Great video. I've never seen these before and they look the perfect solution. Thanks a million and I will definitely be looking to see if I can apply this to my mitre slots.
Hi, there is a free version of this application (the one I'm using here). It seems to have limited options compared to the pro version, but for a beginner, it's more than enough. Please use this link to find the software: www.sketchup.com/plans-and-pricing/sketchup-free. I used to learn this software through RUclips tutorials, and it has a shallow learning curve as well. There are many channels with a wide variety of tutorials, but personally, I prefer this one: www.youtube.com/@Thesketchupessentials/videos. Cheers!
Exactly! I have the same problem since I've bought a dewalt table saw. I think your way is ONE on YT. I’ve never seen that before. Thanks so much for your job. Now I know what to do. I will sleep calm tonight.💪👍👏
Yes, nylon screws may work better. Keep in mind that Extra care should be taken with the side walls of the groove. Precise screw adjustment will be needed! 🥰
Top job ! I made an almost 100% same solution , over a year ago , by this same original miter gauge ! I used a part (2pc.) of another DeWalt machine with the same result as you developed !!! No need for Chinese monster miter gauges with bearings and stuff !
I lost my mitre guage and made one from hardwood. It had the same problem, and I fixed it with a counter bored pilot hole for a wood screw. the head sticks out enough to take up the slack and can be adjusted as needed.
That is great job. Solid. If You want to make it quick but just for few cuts, You only need a good quality of paper tape. I just stick two layers for both sides and it fit nice and tight. Take csre guys ! :)
Self-adhesive PTFE on one or both sides does the job too, but needs only 2 minutes. And it works the whole way long, not only when the gauge is full in the slot. Sry for my bad english :-)
Awesome video and thank you! But why can’t these miter gauge’s come out the box more reliably and accurate? I’m new to woodworking and I’m so confused on the list of jigs and after market equipment that is needed.
Thank you for your appreciation. You know manufacturers mainly give their attention on factors such as portability, cost (price), and on site easy maintenance when it comes to 'job site' table saws like this. Precision is often a secondary consideration, but that doesn't necessarily mean the output is always imprecise. If we tune this machine so carefully, the output can reach the precision level of cabinet saw. As you mention in your comment, there are lot more aftermarket jigs and equipment available, but those can be quite expensive.
Great workmanship, but wrapping the aluminum slider with some painters tape would be way easier and cost efficient. If someone really wants to upgrade, then go for some professional miter gauge.😀
Yes, that's a great point. But after making these careful adjustments, the output seems to be more precise and acceptable to some extent. Thank you for your great feedback.
You will find those in varying sizes at your nearest hardware stores. If not there, check the 'AliExpress' online marketplace; there, you will find many more of this item to suit your purpose. Just make sure that it is the right size. Thanks!

Great conceptually. However, it will only work if the entire track is inserted. Worse, even if you added more set screws. since the set screws are metal, as you use it, you wear away the surface of the track itself. Better to just use tape on track. Quicker and repacks as the tape wears (softer than metal or ceramic).

I wouldn't waste my time doing this. You can simply buy the right size replacement miter bar and screw in the pieces. Especially for the Dewalt. You can find a bar for around $20. Simply screw in the miter gauge to the new bar, and you're done. But, if that wasn't in existence, this video would be perfect to help solve the problem.
Totally crap, but you still can keep the black part. I sent everything to recycling. You could replace the bar, because it is not expensive, but you did a great job.
I like your fix AND Sketchup knowledge but the best fix for, almost all contractor saws if you want to afford it, is to buy an aftermarket miter gauge. They are much more stout and accurate. Thanks! !! !!!
You perseverance, ingenuity and sketchup skills really are admirable but sorry, the factory DW miter gauge does not deserve so much effort and time. A couple of layers of blue masking tape fixes the slop issue in 30 seconds. The accuracy of angles will always be a bit hit and miss anyway (not least because you tried to set square to the throat plate and not the blade?!?! 😳 ) The factory fence is too small to provide proper support. ✌
Great solution, but I really don't understand why De Walt doesn't solve it at the factory for years, people have been complaining about this problem, why are we forced to solve this problem ourselves, and we have a rather expensive tool from De Walt
I get it-it’s frustrating DeWalt hasn’t fixed this. That’s why I shared this solution to help out. Hopefully, they’ll listen to feedback and improve future models😊😊🥰

Thank you for your feedback! The plunge screws were positioned to suit the light work I typically do. However, if you're planning to handle heavier tasks, you can adjust the screw placement to better suit your needs.🥰🥰
Thats great solution! Could it be done also by completely replacing aluminium rail with the one custom made like we do for a cross cut sled? I feel like it could be easier 😅
Overkill much? 1. Just slide it into the slot to undo the screw with thread lock. 2. Use a cotton swab + isopropyl alcohol to degrease the sides. 3. Use PTFE tape on one side. Cut the excess off with a blade. 4. Use the cut off part of the tape on the other side - cut the excess off... 5. Rub the tape with a dry cotton swab to ensure good adhesion. 6. Done. Less than 5 minutes total. No SketchIp skills, massive vise, drill press or fancy screws required...
Good work sir. But if a man in a shed can make it correct - why can't a massive rich company employ a good engineer to get it right at the factory ? Answer they just laughing at us all. Taking the money from us and laughing at us .
And it's more effective than the solution showed on the video. Because the correct spacing mantains the same along the entire length of the bar, even when this was not entirely inserted in the groove. the one presented on the video has only 2 support points...
You’ve got a point there. With construction table saws, some wear and tear is pretty much expected. But honestly, this one stands out because its performance is on par with cabinet table saws. For its category, it really delivers exceptional results.🥰🥰
@ I had one I just sold because it was no where near a cabinet saw performance. Honestly, I have an old $50 Delta that is pretty equal to the Dewalt I sold. Just didn’t impress me for the price. But overall it was an average with contractor type saw. Not really any better and certainly not worse. But just my opinion after using it for a year. I had a larger Ridgid saw a few years ago, far superior saw, but it wasn’t portable as far as going from site to site easily. I replaced it with the Dewalt. Maybe I expect to much, ha ha have a good day.
I added blue painters tape to the miter aluminum slider and it worked great. But your method here is way to awesome. THANK you ..
I added that metalic AC duct tape to mine. .it seems to work well
Appreciate your feedback. Thank you🥰
Very impressive, from your Sketchup skills to your massive improvement of the miter gauge. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next.

First time I have seen lubrication used when machining alloy.
Figured the drill bit cost more than the alloy work piece 😂🤣
Why center punch both sides when drilling a through-hole?
Two punches for two consecutive holes, Sir
Self-adhesive PTFE on one or both sides does the job too, but needs only 2 minutes. And it works the whole way long, not only when the gauge is full in the slot.
Sry for my bad english :-)

Dewalt jobsite saw (DWE7485) costs $299. A decent precise miter gauges starts at $100-300.
Great workmanship, but wrapping the aluminum slider with some painters tape would be way easier and cost efficient. If someone really wants to upgrade, then go for some professional miter gauge.😀
🥰
That's an awesome way to fix the slop/play in the mitre bar. It is a pity it doesn't address the issue with the gauge itself being highly inaccurate.
Yes, that's a great point. But after making these careful adjustments, the output seems to be more precise and acceptable to some extent. Thank you for your great feedback.
