Le début en sup c'est clairement beaucoup plus dure, c'est ce que j'ai mis le plus longtemps à apprendre, même beaucoup plus dure que le surf foil. Par contre depuis que je maitrise j'ai arrété le dock start même pour du pure pumping. Mais il y a une différence importe chez moi par rapport à chez toi, je n'ai aucun ponton en mer ! Du coup forcément les dock starts depuis un paddle gonflable ou dans un petit lac c'est bien pour apprendre mais ça a ses limites. Dans l'océan tu te sent aussi beaucoup plus safe sur une grosse board. Je fais un peu de prone downwind de temps en temps sur 2km mais je m'écarte beaucoup moins qu'en sup, c'est un peu plus angoissant je trouve. Du coup mis à part une question de goût et d'envie, l'emplacement où on habite rentre largement en ligne de compte pour le choix des disciplines à pratiquer. Au niveau du poid des board la mienne fait 5kg c'est top quand même. L'arrivé du wing deflate a pas mal révolutionné la discipline aussi, avant je me tapais 4 km à pieds c'était pas fun ! A oui, je n'ai aucun solution de transport en commun non plus ici. Sinon honnêtement tout le monde fait du sup, on s'ennuirait si on n'avait pas tes vidéos uniques en leur genre 😉. great video, you are the first pumpfoiler that I know going for real downwind runs. that`s really inspiring. This summer I am trying to master the flatwater paddle up, but it`s really difficult. I guess it depends on the lake. At "Urnersee" there aren`t so many docks to start again, but Lake Biel would work well to downwind with a pumpfoil board. I will try next summer.
I find it faster to swim back with swimming goggles and a leash (waist) to let the board drag behind you. With our boards we can use the rails to connect the leash to the board and this way the board is floating backwards and doesn’t take off
In those conditions I'd rather have a small parawing or nasa kite to tow me to shore than the buoy I think. You could take a 1.8m BasicStar2 or wait for Gong to come out with their parawings. Only works if it's windy though! You can also fly a Peak5 2.5m directly on the bridals, you do need to hook in for the Peak5 or BasicStar2 but you already have a belt I see and you can hook on to that.
I think for your lakes it makes sense, but for ocean runs you don't have the luxury of easy dock starts dotted along your journey. Also the DW board allows for you to do solo upwind / downwind runs in places where they don't have trains and ferries to hop. Another option is the parawing, you can take a small wave board, not as good as a pump board but much better than DW.

C'est bien pour ça que je dis que je ferai jamais ça sur des lacs en Suisse. Mais en mer le sup prend tout son sens c'est certain.

Yes I tried it, very good wing to do downwind in the same conditions. Just a little bit slower, but easier to handle.
