    I bought this color on a whim just to have a premade purple for my starter watercolor set. HOLY CRAP. This color is becoming one of my top used now in mixes. It makes so many beautiful colors! I've found it makes great colors with Phthalo Green blue shade.

    Wet on wet: hoar frost on the window pane in the very early day! (I always think of winter and snow as purple, though most would probably say blue. Unfortunately there's even more of the purple stuff falling outside as I type.)

      I wish it would snow here!
      I would be really happy to paint that kind of purple / blue on location 😁

    I just ordered this color because I wanted a deeper more intense purple. So I was glad to see a sampling of it. Good timing I guess!

    Carbazole Violet is my favorite purple… and I have a lot of purples! It is gorgeous from mass tone to its most delicate wash.

    Really like these colors, and I used your link to order the set! Great video! I agree; I do not care much for the green/violet mix; it is not pleasing, but all the other mixes are wonderful! Such a lovely brown with the orange/violet combination. Thanks Liron!

    I just did a painting with it and it gets SO dark, it has a huge range since it gets so dark and you can lighten it to whatever point you want. But I find it to be granular in my personal expierience which I love!

      @LironYan  6 лет назад +2

    I'm thinking I should try the Carbazole Violet myself! I like the texture you got with the wet in wet. It's similar to the king of dispersion star look that your get by using salt! Very interesting. I could also use it to mix a chromatic black.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  6 лет назад +1

      Yes - it creates some interesting patterns! And the fact it turns almost black is so useful (:
      I found myself using it as a main component for portrait backgrounds (in the few occasions I choose to go with a dark background).

    Hi Liron, will you feature any of granulating colors and there strengths on the paint show? I adore the way granulating colors look; however, it is not clear to me what all can be done with them. Thanks.

      That’s a great idea for a video. I added it to my ideas list. Could be nice to have a video focusing on granulating colors in particular (: Thank you 🙏🏼

    I have the DS Indigo, and it is quite different from the Schminke one you used. DS Indigo is much bluer and darker, while the Schminke seems more green. I think the DS indigo would blend well with the Carbazole Violet.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  6 лет назад

      Interesting. The DS Indigo is one I haven't tried yet.
      From what I saw, it does look like it's going to be a good mixture.

    I've been tempted by this one but it's the same pigment and too similar to my Sennelier Dioxazine Purple, which is very intense. It's a beautiful paint though. Thanks for sharing.

      @LironYan  6 лет назад +1

      I would indeed expect it to be similar, it’s Dioxazine Violet (:

    I found a book I had bought several years ago and came across the other day. It is a VERY good text to have. There are at least one colour pix on each page, very often two. Somehow this author has the ability to explain a lot of things which in my thirty years of WC and AC had not, I now know, had a good understanding of. It is THE ACRYLICS MEDIA.BOOK by BARCLY SHEAKES, published by Watson-GUPTIL PUBLICATIONS in NEW YORK in 2000 in paperback. I have not had such a good of the . It may be out of print but principles of Acrylic Painting before. I thought of you immediately. If you can find this one. I heartily recommend it. You will find it helpful with watercolours. It likely worth looking into and will be a pleasure to have in your library. Mary from Toront

      I love the new brush, very good quality, I got the Versatil 10 rigger, its got a great point, like a round with longer bristles for looser works. I am learning values now. any color, but look at the value. I sent an ink piece to a YT artist/friend, she says my ability looks like more than 1.5 yrs, so yesterday I just bathed in the essense of achievement after 10k failed flowers! Haha! just a tiny adjustment to my focal point. I had isues, but then I saw how I could fix it- lowering the ground 5/8 in. :P

    I used to have Winsor Newton Artists grade dioxazine Violet in my palette. I've eliminated it since I tried the DS carb violet which has so much more life to it. The WN D. violet seemed dull, dead, more opaque.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  6 лет назад

      Interesting, and adds to my slightly negative perception of W&N.
      It’s not that they are bad necessarily. But I just wasn’t pleased with any of their paints I tried so far. Oh well 🙂

    Great video, thanks! This is a strange color! I can't use it. But I did like your review, and now I really need to try to use it again. You made some great mixes, and I think it can be a really great color when I learn what to do with it. :)

    Good use for negative painted snow flakes. Ha. reference to the outward veining of the first pigment. I can't think of any other use

    Hi Liron, I don't have Cabazole Violet in my collection of Daniel Smith paints. I tend to make my own secondary colors by using the essential 7 set that I got in the beginning of my most recent watercolor journey. If I remember correctly, Daniel Smith now has an essential 8 set. Is that correct?
    I use wet in wet often in my watercolor paintings. Wet in wet works great for laying down initial layers in a painting. For example, when I was painting an adobe building, I mixed up a pale warm yellow with a touch of warm red. I spread water over the building and while it was still wet, I added the paint mix. When dry, it was a pale yellow-orange. I always start with pale and work towards darker.
    That Carbazole Violet can be used to grey down yellow. In my case, I would only use a touch of it in place of a touch of red; or, I might use it in addition to the red. It's such a pretty color. It might even be able to be used when painting sunsets.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  6 лет назад

      Yes, it’s possible to mix something very similar using the Essentials set (I don’t remember seeing an 8 ons).
      It’s one if those paints that can have so many uses, and require testing out and seeing what works for you and what you like visually (:

    While I love the color and value range of carbazol/dioxyzene violet I don’t like the way it drys with a herd edge. I have to remember to blend the edge. But if I can learn to use the hard edge it’ll be great too. Also maybe it only happens on cellulose paper. Not sure about that.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  5 лет назад

      Hmmm, I wouldn’t be surprised if the paper has something to do with it! (:
      But it is a very strong and inherently dark pigment that takes care working with (like Phthalo Blue for example).

    Hi Liron, I posted on an earlier video of yours as I live in TA and wonder if you are a member of Urban Sketchers and whether there is a chapter of this global group in Tel Aviv, as I'd love to join. So far, haven't found any reference to one. Perhaps we should start one?! Actually, wanted to know if there is anywhere in TA/Israel where you can buy Daniel Smith over the counter or whether you buy, as I do, on the Internet. Would love it if you could reply to this comment.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  6 лет назад

      There's actually an Urban Sketching group that meets once a month (I somehow always miss the meet ups 😅)
      Search on facebook:
      רישום עירוני תל אביב
      And you should find it.
      Regarding DS, I believe there's no brick and mortar store for buying those, unfortunately.
      I think the best option is to order from Jackson or Amazon.
      And - you can find Schmincke in Pnina LaOman in Yafo.
      I hope this helps (:

    You asked about what this color “might” be used for.
    A personal favorite artist of mine is Awaisha_art on instagram. I’m wondering if she doesn’t use this color within her landscapes. I have asked her about colors she uses, but didn’t get a response so I don’t know for sure. And...I’m just starting out in watercolors, so take that into consideration😜
