Mary & Joe, I had seen the film adaptation (not realizing it was based on a book until now!). Such a wonderful film so now I have to read the book!
JR, books that knock your life out of the usual or the perceived monotony are wonderful!
Usman, DragonLance Chronicles was the series that got me into reading fantasy and helped me escape while in middle school, living in a new state. I'm glad it helped you as well!

Epic, The Book of Disquiet is now on my TBR! Depression often is the one step back before you can take your two steps forward, so I will cosign the feeling even better coming out of a depressive episode.

For me, I would recommend much of Guy Gavriel Kay’s writing, in particular “A Song For Arbonne” (a great example of standing up for what is right, perseverance and trying to heal seemingly impossible wounds), “Sailing to Sarantium” (a great example overcoming immense grief and finding inspiration and new purpose in life) and “Under Heaven” (again dealing with grief and trying to do the right thing, to make amends for what has been suffered).
I adore Guy Gavriel Kay’s works, I’ve yet to properly settle into a book fully instead of reading snippets
I don’t know of sailing to sarantium but I will check it out thank you 🙏🏼

What a wonderful video! Thank you Dee, and Jos, and all that participated. I also suffer, mostly from depression and anxiety. Jane Austen is one of my go to, as well as The Blue Castle, one of Montgomery’s lesser well-known adult book.
The narration starts by showing how drab Valancy’s life is, her relatives taking her for granted and not allowing her to be her own person. All changes when she finds out she had a terminal illness and has only one year to live. I know - this sounds horrible - but stick with it. This ‘deadline’ spurs our heroine to take her destiny into her hands and stop being scared of everything. If she has only one year, she is going to make the most of it and actually LIVE!
All of a sudden, Valancy is not the malleable spinster her family wants her to be, answering back, laughing, and making decisions for herself that shock them, to great comical effect. Montgomery borrows elements of the fairy tale in this life-affirming story.
