Oh the audience mic must be super low, I thought. Then I heard someone move their dinner plate… That man drank up silence like most comedians enjoyed laughter. There will never be another like him.
It’s a relief to know he didn’t just come up with his brilliant bits on the spot. I think a lot of us have funny thoughts we should treat our thoughts the way Norm treated his and make them the best we can
Someone else said this on here and it bears repeating. Norm was a genre unto himself. Anytime someone says they don’t like Norm’s comedy I privately question their intelligence.
I just about got chills on the intro, just a regular guy, ha. Really highlights how much of a rare breed this legend is. Norm was a comic of old, we just got to experience it
Nope comedians of old weren't all that funny. Go watch early tv and radio. Even adjusted for the times it doesn't hold up. Not everything old was better. He was from another time. A time that didn't exist
He has new material that is just as funny as the last every time he does stand up too. Unmatched ability as a stand up comic, yet morons like Dane Cook were the ones made a fortune. Go figure.
yeah fuck dane cook for having energy on stage he's probably dumb because i never got famous so famous people must be dumb not that ol normy boy is not famous but you know what i mean he didnt make a fortune well yeah he did but he lost it by gambling but he made it back but he never got the critical acclaim that dane cook got well you know what i mean not critical acclaim per se but shit maybe i'm just a fucking idiot named brad dont listen to me i don't know what i'm fucking talking about that's why i'm an idiot
Mike S. I'll bet if you listened to a certain five minute clip of Adam Corolla talking about working with Dane cook, you'd never think of him the same way again. irrespective of that though, I actually wondered what all the Dane Cook hate was about myself. just people trying to be edgy, not able to accept the fact that he's a funny dude. I hadn't seen him since I was in middle school, but he was definitely funny then. and then I watched him again. holy lord man, the dude is *terrible*, and I'm completely perplexed at how I ever thought he was even remotely funny. turns out your taste in art as a thirteen year old is pretty bad.
Mike S. so I went and watched ten minutes worth of that special and it was infinitely better than the last I saw him, which I think was on some 360 degree platform in an arena. recall a lot of physical stuff and sound effect/screech type shit with him running around like a maniac. anyway, who fuckin cares what the specifics of my half-ass recollections are anyway lol. I'm gonna have to lighten up somewhat on the guy, which is OK because now Carlos Mencia is in a league of his own and that guy is so hateable I don't even need Dane.
Thank you, whoever you are, for putting this online..my respect ! And, my condolences to you and all of the "Norm's people"...i'm waiting for "that old chunk of coal becomes diamond"...
it's pretty interesting to hear the unrefined version of "Janice" and "serial killers" the raw thought is compelling, although you kind of wonder if he just doesn't care so much about this gig, vs knowing that "Me doing Standup", his only special, would actually exist forever. or, whatever!
He is someone to look up to of you are an aspiring comedian. Notice his delivery, and his choice of words. He really created his own kind of humor that so many people who understand that it is all just a joke. There's truth behind most jokes, and the truth hurts. So cry and get upset with the things we cannot control or just learn to turn the situation around and make light of it so you can continue enjoying life. I think Norm was really hard on his body in his early life and maybe still kept abusing substances while he said he was sober. I hate that people are so judgemental to the point where someone would need to hide their addiction or substance abuse from people. We really need to appreciate what we have right now because it's not going to last. This moment I'll time is so special because it is not entirely corrupted.. YET. Everyone who is intelligent vs "woke" can see that the Era of carefree entertainment and actually creating something for the sake of creating it just because you want to. That was Norm. He did not care what anyone thought about him while he was performing. Maybe even in his actual life? I wouldn't know. I do remember watching an interview where he invited a camera crew in and they watched football and ate wings. He also lived next to his mom. In an apartment complex. From what I have gathered he was someone who knew exactly what was important in life. Family, and making people feel His personality is a dying breed. I want you to think about something that will show you the decline of humanity.. did he have a tick tool account? No. Did he consider it? Absolutely not. Was he the funniest person on the earth? Probably. Did he show his luxurious mansions and live a fabricated life? Nah. He admitted to having a gambling problem but he still managed to take care of himself and his family. He knew what life is really about and will always remain as the funniest person I have ever seen.
The main point I found running through his brilliant wit was he belived in Christ, his last words on exiting were chilling, Or so the Christians would have us belive, RIP Norm.
I can concur with most of your sentiments but I really don't feel like he was an addict in any sort of the way, past or later on in his life. People often mistook him for being drunk in some of his more recent sets but honestly what do any of us know he very well could have been on a bevy of medications to combat his illness and it's really none of our business to begin with. He was such a quick wit and so sharp, I think alot of the time his mind moved faster than his mouth.
