Try Apple headphones with a microphone on it. Cut the earpieces off. And wrap foam around. The microphone part. That's what I got. It works pretty well. Make sure you put black Electrical tape on. Where you cut the earpieces off I will be making a video on how to make them soon
What’s your camera setup? I’ve a DJI Osmo Action 3 and purple panda mic. The gain is too high so loud noise peak out (hit the upper limit) and it causes that distortion you’re talking about. Without a gain adjustment in the camera or mic all your can do is bury it in as much cloth as you can. If I don’t get it where I want I may buy the DJI wireless mic or a separate audio recorder and sync them up in edit.
I run -12 on the gain adjustment on the Rode Wireless Go and it helped a lot but still is slightly distorted. There is a recent firmware update where you can adjust the gain on the camera. The DJI mic looks nice and sounds nice I just don't want to pay over $300 for it. I just threw up in my mouth thinking about this but I might buy the Gopro Hero 11 just to have the better audio right out of the box (with regular mic setup)
@Insatiable Mind you have go get the media mod or their shitty adapter just to run the mic. Both aren't cheap. My media mod was $80 at the time. Gopro isn't bad as long as it's functioning properly but I had so many bugs with it or corrupted footage. Super frustrating. The only good thing I can say about Gopro is that the external mic quality is great and the color it captures is great in the footage and you can get accessories or buy one at just about any Walmart
I haven't switched back to my gopro hero 8 yet because that camera is good when it's working but it isn't reliable. I have had so many issues with it where I lost so many videos or it just doesn't pic up the mic

@@dualdorks doesn’t the GoPro require a mic adapter they sell? At least you would have another camera you can setup to get more angles
