Fun fact: Daz and Kurupt originally planned to have "Got My Mind Made Up", "What Would U Do?" and "For All My Niggaz & Bitches" on this album as well... let's say they also included the main version of Big Pimpin' with them slick ass Daz and Snoop verses, and this could've been an UNSTOPPABLE classic!!! Not just the tracks mentioned but Just Doggin’ from Sunset Park soundtrack, Dogg Pound 4 Life and the original Big Pimpin they ended up putting on Above the Rim,Niggas Don’t Give Fuck they used for Poetic Justice soundtrack, Like Dis, Let’s Play House (Warren G feature) and Every Single Day that were unreleased until they were recently put on Doggy Bag album. New York New York was meant as a tribute to NY. The video started as tribute to NY. Biggie heard Dogg Pound was in NY doing the video and came on a NY radio station encouraging NY to attack them and the Dogg Pound got their trailer shot up. After that they put in the video Snoop kicking over the buildings.

@erniesydow959 don't know where you heard that story from but in actuality in 95' a week after the famous Source Awards Daz n Kurupt was on the L.A. radio station Power 106 talking about that night after the awards at the after party there was about 50 rappers from New York freestyling and they all said Kurupt battled every single one of them and basically served all of them. On the plane ride home Daz said Kurupt wrote the song on the plane about that night and that's why at the end of that song you hear Kurupt saying "it was the night I served 2000 emcees" .... snoop came in later and added the hook. It was low key always a diss track to the ones who were involved that night at the Source awards in New York. The tension was already building between East n West then once Pac got out it just escalated even more. The rest is history. Facts

    • @abdelmessiht
      @abdelmessiht 4 месяца назад +2

So it was mixed by Dre, the production on this album is the big mystery, credits just say Produced by Daz, but it has come out in several interviews that it was DJ Pooh, Daz, Soopafly, and Warren G all chipping in on producing this album. And I tend to believe it, because Daz released a ton of albums since and none of them come close to this sonically.

    Before watching: I'm here. Present.
After watching: And you're right about that West Coast/DeathRow/Dre/Daz production. It's uniquely fire and hypnotic. Some of these joints you can listen to without the bars. The bars make it better but yeah, back then i used to tell my friends that East Coast made beats but them dudes made music. And I've always had Kurupt in my top 10. Maybe 6th. At one point he was number 3 to me and im from NYC.
But yeah, thanks for the review. What a time it was to be alive. Ive destroyed many Walkmans and CD players with these joints.

Dope reaction. This one took me down memory lane. Youre right about albums from that era basically taking you on a journey. I'm born and raised in LA, but even still, in '95, this album was the soundtrack to damn near everything happening in the streets.
I lived in a Blood neighborhood back then (Baldwin Village aka The Jungles), and even they were slapping this album despite Tha Dogg Pound obviously being Crips. That's how undeniable this album was.
Sonically, this is still one of the best albums from the '90s. You don't see the names in the credits, but Dr. Dre, Soopafly and Dj Quik all contributed some ghost production on here, with Dre mixing the majority of it.
Lotta controversy around this album, too. Time Warner, which Interscope was a subsidiary of, delayed this album for months because of the political backlash against gangsta rap at the time. Suge, Dre & Jimmy Iovine ended up putying this album out through Priority Records, not Interscope, to placate Time Warner's shareholders, who weren't too happy with the controversy.
My 5 fave songs off this:
    I Don't Like To Dream...
    Let's Play House
    Cyco-Lic-No
    Doggz Day Afternoon
    Respect

That 1st line in New York New York is probably way doper than you realize. Denise Williams, an r&b singer had an album called Niecy back in the day, the big song on the album was called Gonna Take a Miracle...now go back and relisten to that line👊🏾

New York, New York wasn’t a diss song it was actually a song giving them props. They shot up the video shoot so that’s when they changed the plot in the video and Snoop was kicking down the buildings.

@@CavinWebsteryou are wrong! Dr Dre is the one who mixed this album. Yes, he was not involved in the production of beats on this album, but he is the one who mixed this whole project. Kurupt also stated that Dr Dre is the one who volunteered to mix it, and if you on Google you'll find the same thing. DJ Pooh only made 2 beats there which are New York New York & Smooth, then Daz produced the rest of the beats, so there you have it. Next time, please justify with facts.

The song was dedicated to the East coast pioneer at first but Biggie called the radio station and told the New Yorkers they was being disrespected by having Snoop and the dogg pound in their city. So while they were filming the video down in Manhattan , some goons went to the video set and shot up the video shoot. So after that they felt disrespected and then turned the video into a diss song 🎶

This came out when I was in high school, and it had a hold of me. This was an instant classic on the W/C. Everything about this album was perfect. It's a shame Kurupt let the drinking and ect get in the way of his talent. Daz made some good solo projects as well as Kurupt. Check out Kurupts' first solo double album it's hard as F. He did an East Coast side and a West Coast side.

Great album! As far as the people who claim you don’t show love to your region without checking out your channel, a lot of those people are biased and don’t actually care about hip-hop outside of their city. That’s clear because you’ve reacted to a lot of great hip-hop from the west coast, the south, and the Midwest. These are the same people who will say that nobody cares about Jay-Z, Nas, or any other legendary New York hip-hop artists outside of New York and their opinions on hip-hop are irrelevant.
