Personally, I just slit 2 or 3 beans lengthwise and fold them in half and put into a pint bottle of my favorite white rum. Let it sit for a few weeks to a few months for a heavier flavor. Also, you can scrape the pods for extra flavor when the liquid is gone, or put them in sugar. Possibly with a few fresh orange skin pieces.
The extraction will take its course no matter how you do it. All you have to have is patience as it takes time. The more the merrier, the flavor and the aroma will increase as time goes on.
You can use all of them. The important thing is to have patience and let the extraction take time. 15 days ok, 30 days better, it will never spoil because of the alcohol the more time the better. Juan
Any liquor will do. It does not need to be expensive but if it is organic will be better. If is clear is better. If it has "color" it probably has "caramel color" added.
Your website is most confusing. You need to correct your descriptions of vanilla bean and its origin. I would not buy anything from your company...fear that I would not get the correct bean as listed.
Dear Carmen. The origin of the vanilla bean has nothing to do with its quality. All the vanilla beans originally come from Mexico regardless where they where replanted. The only thing that is important about the quality of vanilla is that the bean is cut a full maturity, that is when it is yellow at the tip if you cut the bean at this time you will always get an excellent quality vanilla bean and that is what we do. We only cut the bean when nature tells us to do yellow at the tip never green.
I ordered you beans and love the quality thank you for great instruction

It you chop them up you will get more millage as there is always "vanillin oil left on the vanilla pod".
Many say, to use airtight or vacuum seal bottles, what do you think sir?

You do not need to vacuum just keep it close and turn it around every so often.
Can you refill the bottle with alcohol once it is half empty?
Yes, and add some beans also.
You're using vodka here. What do you think about using rum or bourbon?

How long befor the vanilla will be ready
At least a month. You have to be patient. The more you age the better it will get.
