3:58 well, It would be more naive to set free a prisoner just because he says he knows a way to escape. Leon couldn't know that Ben was telling the truth, and from his perspective it would be more plausible that Ben was pulling BS just to free him, at first glance even the gate key could be a fraud. Leon from re2 original was a young rookie cop that was a very idealistic person and genuinly wanted to help the people of RC and deliver justice to the responsibles, In the remake he confronted Ada of his BS instead of being assault by his back with a gun like in the original game. Other than that your points are spot on.
Leon in Remake says he wants to save everybody, yet let's someone die just because he's on the other side of a jail cell. OG Leon actually wants to save everybody, wanting to get Ben out the cell so he can save him. For a character that cares so much about human life, he really doesn't, what makes it worse is remake Leon's 'the deal's on' line AFTER Ben is dead, even looking at his corpse while he says it. Thank you for mentioning Claire and Leon's lack of communication in this. Like in the OG they kept each other updated on where they were and met a couple of times too. Despite not having much time together in person they felt like a team. In the Remake i legit forgot Leon existed in Claire's campaign until the very end. And honestly i gave up halfway through Leon's as the issues i had with the game became too frustrating to ignore. (I also forgot Claire existed in Leon's story too.) I don't believe for a second this version of Leon and Claire were a team, much less stayed in contact after the events of the game, and sure as hell didn't earn Sherry's 'so are you two a couple now' at the end. Also Chief Irons lost all of his depth. The Orphanage is a cool location and idea (like i genuinely liked that segment) but Irons was a total loser in the remake. He lacked the build-up and menace he had in the original. Like when Irons shows up in the car park it feels like he's reached the end of his character arc without us having even seen the build-up, and they made him so damn ott dramatic and hammy. Now i love dramatic and hammy in horror it can be a great pallate cleanser but when you take a character like Irons and take him from a well-composed psychopath (at least until you find his dungeon) to an ott opera dancing serial killer with zero charisma or conposure he loses all his depth. Also agree about Anette. In the OG she's obviously not a good mother, she's neglectful as hell. But she very clearly loved Sherry, the second she learns Sherry is in the sewers she works with Claire to find Sherry and help save her. But in the Remake they just made her callous and cold to such a degree that even when she does show moments of emotion and care for Sherry it feels so unearned. They could have, and should have done allot better. I know the original RE2 was perfect by any means, but for the most part (outside of a few inconsistancies that were likely limitation issues) the characters and story were handled allot better than the Remake, and there is zero excuse for a PS4 remake of a PS1 game to handle stuff like this so poorly.
