This episode was part of an event called "Countdown to the Comet". The new episodes of Avatar began airing on July 14, starting with "The Western Air Temple", followed by "The Firebending Masters", The Boiling Rock parts one and two, "The Southern Raiders", "The Ember Island Players", and finally Sozin's Comet parts one through four. The chanting that can be heard when the Island/lion turtle calls to Aang, causing him to sleepwalk/swim to him, is a Buddhist chant, "Na Mo A Mi Tuo Fo" (spellings vary) and can also be heard during "Winter Solstice, Part 2: Avatar Roku", when Zhao and his soldiers are about to attack Aang, as well as in "The Siege of the North, Part 2" when Aang goes into the Avatar State and walks into the pond. Sokka's terrible sense of aesthetics is shown once more. Here, he creates an ugly sand sculpture of Suki which he is extremely proud of, despite its hideous appearance. During the bar scene, June is seen fighting a man who she throws into a table; this character bears a striking resemblance to "Ryu", the protagonist of the "Street Fighter" game series. She arm-wrestled the same guy in "Bato of the Water Tribe". Though everyone else is in their season three outfit, Toph and Sokka are in their season two outfits, except in the part where Toph searches for Aang with Zuko, when she is wearing her season three outfit. Also, Katara switches between both of her season three outfits throughout the episode. This episode has the longest recap, due to the fact that this is the first part of the series finale. Viewers are reminded of the many cliffhangers and plot twists that are to be resolved during the four-part series finale. However, in other appearances of this episode, "Previously on Avatar…" has been shortened. This episode is the first part of the two hour movie, Sozin's Comet, which pulled in an average of 5.6 million total viewers and achieved the highest Avatar rating ever with kids 6-11 and teens. The order in which Sokka mentions the elements is the order in which they are in the Avatar Cycle. At the end of "The Western Air Temple", Katara warned Zuko that she would not hesitate to kill him if he were to hurt Aang. She had forgiven him in "The Southern Raiders", so she might have decided to wonder why he attacked Aang this time rather than retaliate. The passage of power from Ozai to Azula over the Fire Nation is very similar to how emperors would manage their home nation when given the title as Holy Roman Emperor in the Medieval Era. At the time, the Holy Roman Empire was considered the largest collection of power in the European Sphere. This is the second episode in the series where all the members of Team Avatar have worn swimsuits, with "The Beach" being the first. It is the first time Suki has worn a swimsuit in the series.
Hot Take: Azula saved everyone’s life by foiling their attack on the Day of Black Sun. Aang’s dilemma about killing the Firelord is that this didn’t come up *at all* before the solar eclipse! Before Zuko asked Aang what he planned to do, no one ever said he had to kill him. They have *always* used the word “defeat”. So what would have happened during the eclipse if Azula hadn’t heard their invasion plan? We’re they going to spend 12 minutes trying to convince a child pacifist to kill?
Thats an interesting point. But realise that Aang was supposed to fight Ozai during eclipse when he would be defenseless which means that it would be near childsplay to capture him instead of killing him.
@@mordredvonumbra154 And it would've been near child's play for Ozai to then break out of whatever means they'd have been able to use to 'capture' him, then murder them all, the second that the eclipse ended. Unless Toph straight-up murdered Ozai herself by burying him alive (as the only one of them who'd have had both the ability and mindset to do such a thing), taking it out of Aang's hands. Though let's not forget, the Gaang would've come in and interrupted Zuko's one-to-one chat with his father as well. And do you think they'd have accepted his words and let him into their group then and there, or that they (especially Katara) would've at least had a hostile faceoff with, and probably a full-blown fight with, Zuko as well, and wound up wasting their time with that instead?
@@mordredvonumbra154 3x21- Even if they bury him up to his neck, he can still breathe fire just as well as his elder brother can. If the Gaang didn't come to her, where she was waiting for them in the Throne Room, she'd have come for them instead, and set about happily cutting off all their possible escape routes immediately after the eclipse ended. The Gaang would've used the same method to incapacitate Ozai that they used to incapacitate Azula- and the Dai Li agents would've been able to catch them off guard, and bust Ozai out from the shadows, just as easily as they busted Azula out. And what then? Azula let them go, after telling them where her father was, and telling them "I'm sure he'll be more than happy to see you now!" (i.e, execute you now). If Ozai was already with them, and Azula was just around the corner? At best, one or two members of the Gaang might get to survive as new 'souvenirs', for Azula to add to her collection. I've seen every episode at least 5 times in the passed two years and I still cry everytime Aang goes into the avatar state and tells the sand benders "now tell me where Appa is" it's such a beautiful moment. Because when you delve more into the lore of the show you find out that Avatars are tied to their spirit animals. Aang dies shortly after Appa dies in the comic books. However the moment that is truly touching is when Katara brings him out down and holds him. And you see him crying. He's still in the avatar state. All of the avatars are all crying for Appa. Even though his past lives probably know appa is going to be okay. Every avatar sheds a tear at the exact same moment for Aang as they all simultaneously feel the distress of loosing a spirit animal.
When the group decided to look for Aang, Toph insisted on being with Zuko, stating how everyone else had a life-changing experience with him. This refers to Aang in "The Firebending Masters", Sokka and Suki in "The Boiling Rock, Part 1" and "Part 2", and Katara in "The Southern Raiders" when each character went on their respective journeys with Zuko. When Katara and Suki are looking for Aang, they see the actors playing Aang and Toph from the play in "The Ember Island Players". A neat detail (can't remember if they spell it out in the show, if they do ignore me :P) - the War Council that Zuko talks is the one from "Nightmares and Daydreams", where he spent the episode upset because he thought he wasn't invited. A lot of people thought that ep was jokey filler/unimportant, but it's actually this event (it happens offscreen, we see the before/after) that triggered Zuko to change sides in the next episode (the invasion). If you can go back and watch he's visibly disturbed after leaving the meeting, but first time through we assume it's just cause he's still ~conflicted~ about being home.
14:18 learning restraint, jong jong tried to teach aang into learning restraint so that fire wouldn’t spread around. I’m guessing fire benders were taught that in the fire academy.
I hate when people are so unsympathetic to Aang for not wanting to kill Ozai. He’s a kid and a pacifist killing goes against who he is as a human. And even if he did kill Ozai, he would’ve lost his bending cuz when air nomads don’t follow the rules of their culture, they loose their bending. Just like Avatar Kyoshi’s mom. She was an air nomad and disrespected the culture so she lost her bending and she had to use fans to make up for it.
@@dripdoriya1707 No offense but if it isnt mentioned in the show no matter how cool it is then it cant be taken as a factor at that time. Avatar losing airbending would kind of be a big deal so if there was a danger of it then it would most certainly be a factor. Thats why i dont like form of legends made after the show cause they can make certain parts about canon wrong or weird. Also. His duty is to the world.
Fron the first time they mentioned the Comet i always knew Aang would fight Ozai when it arrived not before. But back in 2005 i thought it would he and Agni Kai style fight!
Out of everything Ozai did and everyone sees him leaving Azusa behind as just discarding her I see it as him protecting the only child he actually cares about. That’s why he gave her all these tasks v.s putting her out on the front lines. She at this point is the next one to lead the nation so it would make sense that he would want to keep her safe at all costs.

I know most people would say that it's best to just kill Ozai and save the world in this situation because it's for the greater good, but it's a lot easier said than done, especially for a 12 year old monk of all people. What I find sad is how Zuko and some of the others were kind of making fun of Aang for his dilemma. They're literally telling him to kill someone, nothing really funny about that. I get where they're coming from, but Aang is the one that has to ultimately kill Ozai in the end. Not Zuko, not Sokka, and nobody else. It's easy to tell someone to just do it when you yourself aren't faced with that decision. Killing someone should never be taken lightly and just because Aang's the Avatar doesn't mean it'll be easy or absolve him of his feelings or inner turmoil about it. His status and everyone looking to him to do the "right thing" also doesn't help with the pressure.
I think one detail that people don't really take note of is the fact that they all grew up DURING the war that's been going on for 100 years. Aang on the other hand came from a time of peace. So it's not just the monk aspect, but also that everyone else grew up in a world where battles are fought and lives are lost every day, and have accepted that the war could catch up to them at any second. On the battlefield it's do-or-die and that mentality is now normalized to most people. So they really can't understand how Aang is having trouble accepting the fact that he'll have to kill the enemy commander - to them, that's just how things work. Aang IS actually the outcast here because his mindset is 100 years apart from theirs. There's also the fact that the Air Nomads have been dead for 100 years. Assuming that they're the only people that practiced pacifism en masse (and considering the histories of the other nations that's quite possible), that could mean that in the current age, pacifism is a completely alien concept to the majority of people.
@@Someguyhere111 I never faced or experienced war but i would opt for killing firelord. You dont need specific upbringing or past to get to this decision. The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness..
You guys bring so much joy to my life!!!!! Hope you have a great weekend!
I have seen the show 1,000 times and i enjoy it every time!
Thats why its a masterpiece of a cartoon. And the best one in my opinion.
Now, you must do it one again, you will watch avatar another time.
Avatar Roku.
14:18 learning restraint, jong jong tried to teach aang into learning restraint so that fire wouldn’t spread around. I’m guessing fire benders were taught that in the fire academy.
I know we all were waiting for the mighty MELON LOOORD to come
Time has come
Haven't even started the episode and I already clicked thumbs up!
Hey I just came by to say thanks for making these reaction videos, they really help me get through some bad days
SERIES FINALE LET'S GOOOOOOO
One of the best lines
“I am not Toph! I’m Melon Lord!”
Thanks for not wanting to overwhelm me.. i appreciate your considerat...oh wait, not me? oh...nvm
Imons Impressions are just as good as zukos
You made the wrong choice father
Your not coming bitch - imon snow 2020 lmao 😂 I’m dead
Been waiting all day for these videos! :)
There are animes i've seen over five times, and when i go back to watch them, I legit forget too what I saw before, if it's been over a year.
Wot? Never knew that
Шизл манизл yeah it’s pretty cool but kinda scary. Kyoshi’s mom just covered up her tattoos and then she lost her bending that’s scary 🤣
OH SNAP. It has begun.
Drink every time abi says precious
Ladies not sure where you were headed after this reaction but I'm sure y'all lit up the place. You ladies looked radiant
Finaly its here...
“How does everything not catch on fire?” Probably lots and lots of asbestos
Abi doesn't fake anything🤔🤤
Great reaction lol
REACT TO GOLDEN KAMUY!!!!! Love your vids girls, keep'em coming

Yes! It’s here!🔥☄️
14:04 "alright, i guess" LOOOOOOOLLLL AGREED
I like ya background posters. Wow. Nice
Here...we...GO!
Fron the first time they mentioned the Comet i always knew Aang would fight Ozai when it arrived not before. But back in 2005 i thought it would he and Agni Kai style fight!
Here we go
Abby looking particularly ravishing today
the guttural noise i made when i saw this got uploaded. IT'S HAPPENING BOYES. I'M SO EXCITED.
We’re in the endgame now 😬
Aang is technically Kung fu action Jesus in this world
We're in the Endgame. This four part finale is, IMO, the greatest finale of all time in tv
Imon: “oh true” 😂😂😂😂
Out of everything Ozai did and everyone sees him leaving Azusa behind as just discarding her I see it as him protecting the only child he actually cares about. That’s why he gave her all these tasks v.s putting her out on the front lines. She at this point is the next one to lead the nation so it would make sense that he would want to keep her safe at all costs.
Nothing can prepare you for the wrath of the Melon Lord!!! 😈
The time has come!
No 4 EP marathon for the culture? Sheesh making us wait is cruel
One of Toph's least talked about aspects: she's lowkey a hopeless romantic who develops crushes on her teammates pretty quickly lol
When these girls get to the... cape on fire part of the finale 🤪
So do we have to wait 3 weeks until the finale or will the final episodes be dropped closer together?
14:45 Why would you just drink hot water?
Asian moms have entered the chat
Hey, does anyone know the name of the song they play in the intro and ending?
i could never thank u more i was so boreddd
You've cut the "I knew it! You did have a secret thing with Haru." Part out.
We have arrived
It's finally happening!
*Turns down volume before the screaming/crying starts*
Haha funny enough drinking hot water is a thing especially in China
Abby lookin like a straight snack 😅
Caution for new viewers wanting to support the official release, Netflix has the last 4 episodes combined into one hour long episode.
That's not Netflix, that's how the show was produced. And why would that be caution-worthy ?
@@tempsitch5632 because things get trimmed and some details lost when organizations re-edit several episodes into one. Also I own entire DVD set the finally was divided into 4 separate episodes.
@@theawesomeman9821 I think you meant Netflix has it as 4 episodes equalling 2 hours.....as in the same way it was aired ? Or did Netflix edit an hour out ?
@@tempsitch5632 there's like a 7-8 minutes cut to the Nexflix version the last time I observed the two.
@@Someguyhere111 Very true on all counts! Glad that you brought it up 👌
You two both said what I wanted to sayy, great points and explanation.
@@Someguyhere111 that was a very good point
@@Someguyhere111 I never faced or experienced war but i would opt for killing firelord. You dont need specific upbringing or past to get to this decision. Its only a matter of logical analysis and pragmatism. What needs to be achieved, what obstacles stand in the way and what solutions are possible.
“Is it a ship?”
Is it a ship?
Me smiling, Not quite👀
It’s a very wise ship
@@dripdoriya1707 The wisest of ships😌
Toph do be thirsting though
Whats the name of the intro song?
React to Akudama Drive! Best anime this fall season
I CANT WAIT FOR KORRA😔
"Don't get mad at me if you think I'm faking it. I don't fake it."
I...
