I knew you would love it. I’m glad this series of skimmer is getting some RUclips love. Hopefully others will see the light! This is one skimmer that if you see in person you wouldn’t consider any other skimmer because it’s built how you wish all reefing gear was. It makes your old skimmer look like a toy!
Right?! I briefly had both skimmers out of the sump and could really compare them, and I was just astounded. The Curve 5 needed regular thorough maintenance, and worked well, but it just gets “toy-ified” by the Akula. It’s no comparison. Just a different class of product altogether. I wonder how the Akula stacks up against other popular, higher end skimmers, like Reef Octopus or Red Sea or Nyos units? Wish I had unlimited money so I could compare! But yes, I am in love with this skimmer. It is the bedrock foundation of my filtration process now. It instantly attained that position lol.
Those skimmers are fantastic. I compared it with my bubble king double cone and quality is even better! They just released the dc version of this skimmer. There is also an ac to dc conversion kit. Great choice mate! 👍🏻
I hope those students are challenging you in a good way this semester. thanks for dropping content! i dunno about you but in the summer i got way more family stuff and everything else going on I've been mostly ignoring the reef tank. oddly enough that's worked out in a good way. what happens when a n00b reefer stops screwing with his tank? apparently good things 😆. damn nice skimmer, love your gear reviews i try and scoop up whatever u recommend and works on my tiny IM40. cheers!
Ha - it can help to be distracted from it, from time to time! As for the students, they are good kids, but this crop has needed a lot more help than usual due to a rash of poor listening issues. I’ve been doing some babysitting for sure. It’s not all of them, but it’s enough that I am going way out of my usual lane to address their needs, this time around.
I saw this skimmer at a show. I love my reef octopus but these seem to create better skimmate with the extremely milky look because of the super microbubbles. There's a big difference in this and the reef octopus. If and when I switch out, I'm going to get one of these. The bigger version for a 310 gallon.
@@queencityreefs They come standard with DC pumps now, too. I’m positive you’d love it. No experience with Reef Octo (but have heard good things). It’s still hard for me to imagine skimmers that are more overbuilt than this thing. It’s borderline unnecessary how far they want in overbuilding this beast lol.
Nice skimmer. They are great! Too bad you missed the sale at BRS when they discontinued it. It was on sale for $293.58 You still got a good deal at Aquarium specialty
Sure man. I’ll add it to the docket. I have mine submerged in 8 inches of water, I believe. You tune it by twisting the knob on the pillar that sticks up and out of the water.
Ive bought the Upgrade Kit with DC pump for 180 Euro. After my purchase it went to 270 euro. In every single Store available. I think, !! i was the only person in Germany!! clever enough, to buy it this way. 😂😂😂There was !No way! for me to buy this pump alone in Germany.not available. Sicce didnt answer my Messages to buy one. Amazon 344 euro. 😂😂 Now running it in a Red sea skimmer 300, but without the need to buy fancy Red sea controller. Its included. Cant be happier. If i find a used Ultra Skimmer in my size. I will buy! At this Moment 780 Euro! Crazy Times. You have to think outside the Box.

Oh I know I missed out. But I had to get fed up with the Bubble Magus before I was ready to join the big leagues. Ha!
How do you tune it? Its my first skimmer and i dont know how to use it. Can you make a video?

I got curve 5 elite never cleaned the hole skimmer yet. BRS say the technology now with skimmers is at the max.
The Elite has that good Sicce pump. Probably a different ballgame than the standard Curve 5.
