I was 55 years old when I noticed my neck in a photograph much larger compared to earlier photos. I had a thyroglossal duct cyst slowly growing since childhood; never giving me pain or difficulty swallowing. A neck specialist explained how common this is and how simple it is to remove. I had the out-patient surgery. No pain or sore throat afterward. Just stitches that dissolved and a simple Band-Aid. I was up and about the very next day. My incision recovered quickly - remembering it was only a week or 10 days. I have no noticeable scar, even 11 years later. And now I have a normal-size neck. Hope this helps anyone who is facing surgery.
I’m worried I keep getting a feeling of a lump or blockage in my throat and I think it blocks my windpipe as I have apparently started to snore. But the weird thing is I can go weeks with the feeling gone, then out of no where it comes back. I actually notice I got it one time after eating an apple? I was just wondering if any you guys experienced this and if all is well now?
My husband found this during surgery for what they thought was possible thyroid cancer. Yes it can become cancerous, so do take care of it and have it removed! It ended up that it had grown into cancer and they had to remove part of his thyroid (isthmus area), just to be on the safe side, to stop it from spreading. We are now watching it for 5 years before he gets to claim himself cancer free. Please do not ignore this. It is crucial to have it removed to prevent cancer. He will have to take thyroid meds to ensure it does not grow into his thyroid, even though he has 97% of his thyroid. It was considered thyroid cancer even though it was basically cancerous thyroglossal duct cyst. The doctors did not know how to handle the post surgery protocol because most people have this removed in early life and before it becomes cancer. The lesson to learn, once again i iterate, is get it out.
I had the same surgery 25 days back and i feel no pain before and after...And doctors also put drain pipe for 1 day after surgery...now it is healing fastly😇✌🏻
I had surgery on one when i was 9. Week long stay . 15 years later another surgery to remove scar tissue. I was surprised and happy to see this. Thank you.
I had mine removed 10 years ago. My scar unfortunately formed a keloid from the tip of my neck to bottom of it. Be careful with your post up surgery and I’m glad I am not alone.
Just had mine yesterday. I had a big one, after removal felt a stinging pain in my throat everytime i swallowed. But getting better overtime. Will give after sugery updates on here
OK Day 4 (Forgot to update on here) experience coughing some, still some pain swallowing, not biting though. More flem/mucus in throat I need to cough up Day 5, more coughing this time biting coughs, woke up in the morning with biting coughs, boy did it hurt! Took some dayquil, voice is starting to change, but swallowing is becoming better. More flem/mucus in throat I need to cough up Day 6, Voice changed, almost as if I'm losing my voice, acknowledge that inside throat is feeling a bit swollen, though I assume this is all part of the healing process though. Coughing persists. Still cough up flem and mucus. Swallowing is becoming alot better Day 7, Completely lost my voice early this morning speaking with a whisper. Scary! Coughing last night with flem and mucus. Took dayquil again to turn down the coughs.
Day 8, Voice was going in and out, sometimes with whisper sometimes deep raspy voice. Voice has not returned Still coughing at night with flem. Took some Dayquil Day 9, same as Day 8 except less coughing, voice doing the same as well Day 10, Less couging with flem and mucus, still couging though. Voice no longer whisper, but still deep raspy voice. Voice has not fully returned yet.
Day 11, voice is gradually coming back. went to the doctor for scheduled appointment. Removed stiches and told me to apply moisturizer and expose the area to as much sun light as possible. Said swallowing would gradually heal (and I can feel it healing) said losing voice could of been because of me going out and instead of staying inside. Right now voice is getting much better and better as days go by. I would provide a final summary after all this. Coughing up flem lessen each day but still happens. Overall getting better each day! Summary to follow.
I had this when I was around 11 or 12. I remember it hurting alot at times, had started to look like a big pimple and was starting to drain. I had my surgery on the 4th of July that year. I didn't have any problems after wards, however, swallowing was a bit difficult right after surgery. It got better with a few days of healing. It's been 44 years since I had it done!
I had a cyst when I was a child, but surgery was suggested to be performed when I got older. The doctors told me the surgery would be from ear to ear, it scared me SO much that I never went back for check ups. Now older, 21, I don’t see any growth but I feel pain. Going to a ultra sound check up soon to see if it’s a cyst. I’m so scared if they don’t happen to find anything! Now that I’m older, I’m more afraid if I have to live with the pain..
I discovered a thyroglossal duct cyst at the age of 26 as a result from having the flu. I am roughly 4 months post-surgery. Ask me anything. I'll preface by saying that I can only speak for my experience, yours may be different: I didn't have much pain or complications. It did not affect my voice. I could sometimes feel the hyoid bone ends get caught on something when I swallowed, this was shortly after surgery while I was still swollen and recovering. I do not feel it anymore. Directly after the surgery I felt completely fine, didn't need any painkillers. The day after though, there was quite a bit of swelling and my neck muscles felt very constrained, gave me a bit of a fright but I combatted it with an ice pack to get the swelling down. Had a pretty hefty double chin for about 3 days or so. Sometime after the swelling went down, I noticed the entire surgical cavity (where they had lifted skin and muscle tissue as they worked) was firm and felt like it was filled with fluid. Went and got it checked out, it was cyst fluid, they had missed some of the duct and so the remnant was creating the fluid (This was discovered during a new ultrasound examination). My body has absorbed most of the fluid by now and that's my current situation. Waiting to see what happens next. It has healed nicely, I had internal stitching. The scar sometimes starts to itch ALOT and swells a bit, but I just moisturize it and try my hardest to avoid touching it. It goes away fairly quickly, maybe half an hour or so. It is not tender or painful to touch.
@@IMVUXufi Yesterday I just found little lump hurting infront of my neck, This happened just one day after the stomach exercise, i had pressured on my neck too much during exercise then next day I found little lump hurting Infront of my neck, is this the duct cyst? Now it's upsetting me😩😩
Still have the scar that ended up in the crook of my neck because the doctors made the incision so that it would fall there when i was older. Surgeons truly are amazing.
If I have one that appeared at age 18 and remains the same size for the next 20 years, does that mean it is not a Thyroglossal Duct Cyst because it did not grow since childhood?
Hello My son (4 years) was having thyroid glossal duct cyst with puss and infection. After antibiotic now the cyst and puss is gone. My questions is what precaution should we take to prevent infection, what is good to eat and what the boy shouldn't eat? please guide.
Hi, when i was seven years old (21 now) i had to have a cyst removed from my neck that was directly at the front and quite large. I had to go through surgery and trust me i am TERRIFIED of pain and hospitals but i remember nothing about the ordeal! You will be absolutely fine i guarantee.
My daughter had 2 surgery for removing this, but it came back again. 😔. The first time (she was 1Y) doctors said they didn’t know exactly what it was, so they didn’t remove it completely. I thought it was over with the second surgery one year after, but no. I have to see the doctor next week. She’s 3 years now. I don’t know what to expect.
Had this done thirty years ago. I’m almost sixty now. First doctor just cut the cyst off and it drained continually for years (roughly ten years). Then I was referred to ENT surgeon who did the proper surgery. It doesn’t effect your voice. It has nothing to do with your vocal cords or voice box. They removed a bone and my Adam’s apple.
I have a lump on my neck in the same spot, its infected and draining saliva/mucus. I got an MRI and CT scan, but the doctors are saying its a regular cyst and are confused why saliva is draining. Anyone else have the same problem?
