Went here for a severe concussion on my forehead when I was six. Fell while rocking in between some tables. I went to the emergency room but the concussion was so severe that I got transferred to the main hospital. Staff was very nice and kept me comfortable while testing me for anything more serious. Everything was good in the end, but I have a permanent bump on my head from it more than 10 years later. Thanks Phoenix Children’s!

I've had a major surgery done to reconstruct the torn patella ligament in my left leg. I also had a couple other procedures done during this surgery because of some other orthopedic issues I had on my left leg. The overall reason I had the surgery done was to regain my ability to walk around comfortably because of having cerebral palsy on top of the problems I was experiencing with my left leg. It all started from dislocating my left kneecap in 5th grade, and I went through a total of 9 years of painful walking (which included chronic subluxation of my left kneecap and left knee arthroscopic surgery that didn't resolve this problem initially). Another reason why I had gotten the surgery done was to help with some of the orthopedic issues that have developed over time as a result of having cerebral palsy. I couldn't use crutches because I can't use my left hand very well, so I had to use a wheelchair. It's been almost 2 years since I had gotten the surgery and I am so glad that I had switched orthopedic surgeons because my pediatric orthopedic surgeon was not wanting to perform such a major surgery because of the amount of rehabilitation that I had to do and regaining strength. The orthopedic surgeon who I see now listened to my parents and I discuss this ordeal and he agreed that surgery was the best way to fix it besides physical therapy. He literally felt the pain I was feeling when subluxating my kneecap in front of him. He even X-rayed both of my legs instead of just my left leg because he was able to pinpoint what I was dealing with when seeing the differences between my left and right leg. However because I had turned 18 that year, I didn't see a child life specialist at all. I did stay overnight for a couple days and was even visited by a therapy dog. I have noticed that the girl in this video didn't specify what kind of surgery she was getting. There could have been a disclaimer saying that not all children who were getting surgery were going to see a child life specialist because it’s pretty likely that other older teens didn’t see them either.
I'm getting surgery on September 16 and will probably get another one shortly after that. This video has helped me not be scared for my surgery thanks! :)
I have had to have surgery 6 times. Three brain and three leg surgeries. All under general anesthesia. I was scared, but I was lucky to have understanding doctors help ease the experience talking to me while I breath through a mask
this video is really good as even that im not a child anymore but its nice to see that there is a nice video to help explain what kind of things that you could expect when having surgery in a way that children can understand and not be scared :)
I don't remember doing any pre-op when I had surgery in the early 90s. My parents and I went to the waiting room, and I played NES there until the nurse or surgeon came and got me. They took me by the hand, and walked me to the operating room. Times have changed I guess?
I never thought I'd have had emergency surgery until 25 when I collapsed from blood loss due to a bleeding ulcer. It's crazy every member of my "nuclear" family have had surgery , top being my dad who had brain surgery,.
I've been in the hospital so many times. I had 3 leg surgeries, 5 shunt revisions, and I had my gallbladder removed. Those surgeries hurt like crap. I had eye surgery also to be able to see straight because it turned into a different direction which absolutely bugged the crap out of me. It wasn't as bad as the other surgeries. I had my gallbladder removed at the age of 14.
