    Full Review - • 2023 Toyota Camry Hybr...
    Join us as we compare the Real World MPG against the EPA's projected MPG!
    The 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE is an incredibly fuel-efficient car, getting an EPA-estimated 44 mpg in the city and 47 mpg on the highway. That means you can drive over 600 miles on a single tank of gas, saving you money at the pump.
    The Camry Hybrid's fuel efficiency is thanks to its hybrid powertrain, which combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor. The electric motor helps the car accelerate and maintain speed, while the gasoline engine provides power when needed.
    In addition to its fuel efficiency, the 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE is also a great choice for those looking for a comfortable and reliable car. It comes standard with a variety of features, including a blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, and a JBL audio system.
    If you're looking for a fuel-efficient and reliable car, the 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE is a great option. With its EPA-estimated 44 mpg in the city and 47 mpg on the highway, you can save money at the pump and get more miles for your money.

    Our 2023 XLE Hybrid was 44mpg until about 4k miles. It dropped down to about 38mpg. By 9k, where we are now, we got it back up to about 41mpg. We live in Southern WA state in an area with lots of hills and windy roads.
    It has been cold for like 6 months. We use both seat heaters and sometimes the steering wheel heater. The weather finally warmed up a week ago. We stopped using both seat heaters as well as the steering wheel heater.
    Still 41mpg is a little low but it is probably due to using the seat heaters. There is also a possible chance gas stations have more ethanol then they claim which has less energy per gallon. We use only top tier gas 87 octane.
    Lastly, by 5k miles the engine was running rough on cold starts for like 30 seconds. At 8k miles it felt like it was occasionally misfiring. Dealer is over an hour drive one way but we plan on having them look at it.
    At the 5k mile check we asked them to look into it but they couldn't reproduce it because we drove it there from an hour away and it was already warm. At 8k miles we asked them to change the oil under their 3 free oil changes even though they claim 10k oil change intervals is standard.
    We only have one car so we cannot leave it over night. We are coming up on the 10k mile checkup and we plan on seeing if they can give us a loaner and keep it over night and thoroughly investigate the rough idle on cold startup and possible misfiring.

      rough idle on cold start is very ethanol-ish behavior. fill the tank with the highest grade of fuel without ethanol and see if it goes away.

    Hello, great test and mileage for this real world combined 100 mile trip. Thank you for sharing this. I'm getting a '22 Camry Hybrid soon, european spec (in Europe), highest trim level, really excited. Also can't wait to get some readings on consumption.

    My 2024 xle which is new is getting below 40. Mostly city driving and not much flat roads and winter. On some stretches it’s below 30 but then closer to 40 on other drives. Short trips and around 30-40mph. A disappointment but I’ll see with longer drives, summer, “break-in”, and more flat roads at some point. Overall I’d say I get 33-37 mpg. But my old gas Camry from 2012 gets less than 20 around town lol.

    I've heard you should never top off after the pump shuts off.

      It's only for a test..after the gas settles. You don't want to keep doing it until you can't squeeze anymore in, this was just 1 extra pull to try and make sure the amount gas was as close to the same at the beginning and the end of the test.

    I have a 2023 Camry Hybrid (purchased it in February). My Mileage peaked during the summer at 57.1 MPG.
    Since the weather has gotten cooler, it's gradually slipped downwards and is now 55.6 MPG. When I do my 15K mileage maintenance, I'll ask them to check things out (one item in my 10K mileage checkup was the engine & cabin air filters were checked yellow; so that could be one reason) like the oxygen sensors, etc. Consequently, the miles I get between fill-ups has gone down a lot.
    Since my car is still under warranty, such issues would be no problem for me to do/them to fix. Any ideas?

      It's mostly due to the cold weather. They put additives in the gas for the winter so mpg always goes down. Engines idle higher at start to warm the engine also. Plus, like EVs, the battery that runs the hybrid part, don't like the cold. They are best at 70-80°

      @@offtheshelfrides Duly noted. I had a slight dip in March/April before spring/summer season.
      And you right about the battery, EV mode for me doesn't come on as often during the fall/winter.

    I will never keep pumping gas after it stops. This can cause very expensive consequences.

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  8 месяцев назад +1

      It is just 1 pull after the gas settles. The damage occurs when you keep doing it until you can't get anymore in it. This is done to keep testing balanced because every pump and car are different.

    How did you only get 472 miles till empty with a hybrid? My regular 2022 Camry SE does 475 miles on regular gas and it’s not even a hybrid!

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  4 месяца назад +1

      Probably a smaller tank to offset the weight of the battery

    well you are sitting in the car by yourself, no heat, no a/c etc...flat roads etc. all plays into mpg. What is important is what you get for the past total miles driven like 5k on the odometer.

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  8 месяцев назад +4

      I run these tests as I would drive them. Normal mode, heat/ac, not all flat roads. I get what your saying. I am not trying to MAX efficiency, I drive over the speed limit, drive the trip back in reverse order, which negates Any wind or terrain, I am giving the best representation of Real World MPG that I can provide

    • @brucewayne2773
      @brucewayne2773 8 месяцев назад

      Real world aveage mpg should be over a distance of at least 5k to 10k miles. That in itself would be more realistic for me. I am in Ca , I imagine mileage is better here than if I lived in AZ or NY @@offtheshelfrides

    • @letsgo4834
      @letsgo4834 8 месяцев назад +2

      I’m not sure what you mean. Heavy stop-and-go traffic is where hybrids really shine. If you do most of your driving on city streets hourly see higher mpg numbers.

    • @ondago2
      @ondago2 7 месяцев назад

      Fundamental misunderstanding met with attitude exceeding information and understanding. Real world testing along with EPA testing results so the full of Toyota Camry hybrids they consistently get better mileage in the city they are rated for higher mileage in the city and traffic and such so the comments interesting is completely false for the most part it's not impossible to make it right but under almost all conditions that anybody would describe as traffic or city it actually performs better so you're trying to poo poo the number as if it would go from $55 down to what 45 like that's not still good anyway it technically probably as much higher if you wanted in the city might have got 60 miles per gallon or something

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  9 месяцев назад

      On the interstate, the hybrid system rarely kicks over to electric drive. Highway it will engage more, but city driving is where it can drive on electric the most.

      I have the same exact nightshade. brand new 200 miles average has been 38 mpg since new. mixed city and highway.
