Doctor Mike is great. I remember about 3-4 years ago I took my mother to the emergency room. The doctor came in the room and he was exceptionally attentive and personable and really put us at ease. Add all of those and you have my bedtime routine. The brain and body are full of very activated and sensitive microcosms. To reduce chronic inflammation and pain, this helps as a regular day and night routine set for myself as well as for others.
I can tell a significant difference with my lungs in not having an appropriate humidity mark in the room. Lights, sounds, etc. can elicit, sustain and intensify headaches and migraines. If there isn't an appropriate temperature mark, I could be up making multiple clothing changes per night because I'm completely 100% sweating through my clothes, the sheets, pillow, etc. This can also funnel into impacting other areas of the body like the digestive system and having weird amounts and frequency of urination and movements during the night. The neuroscience behind sleep is absolutely fascinating.
Just coming back to this video with a little personal update: ever since this video came out, I started doing the "write 3 things you're grateful for", and I must say there's been a drastic change in my ability to sleep, as well as my anxiety and the way I think about things/my mentality. 1. I've been able to fall asleep! While I haven't officially been diagnosed with insomnia or anxiety, I have had trouble falling asleep most days for the past 2-3 years, always on and off, some weeks worse than others, some months worse than others. It's only been 2 weeks since this video came out, and I've noticed that I've been falling asleep faster EVERY SINGLE DAY compared to before. Main reason being I no longer worry or overthink about concerns on the daily (ie. I should have done something this way, or worrying about work, etc.). Rather, I appreciate things that HAVE happened in the day/week, and find satisfaction in those things. The negative worries and overthinking just fade away into the distance while I focus on the positive. 2. My mentality has become a lot more positive. At the beginning of writing, my lists were on little things like "grateful that I had time to Netflix" or "grateful that I had an egg tart today". But I've found that overtime (especially since we are in a pandemic and a lot of these lists get repetitive each day), I'm spending more time trying to come up with things that I am grateful for, that I haven't already written in the past few days. I've noticed I've started to write things like "I'm grateful for the internet", "I'm grateful that my main concern is to stay at home" and "I'm grateful that I still have the privilege of working from home/have a job". By writing these lists, the way I approach life has been a lot more positive, as I find myself recalling these things not just before bed, but throughout the day/week as well. Considering it's already has such impact on me in only 2 weeks, I wonder where I'll be in 6 months! It's such a simple thing, only takes 5 minutes before bed, I prefer handwriting it rather than typing it on my phone, as it seems to stay with me much more when I handwrite it. Thanks for the little tip Dr. Mike, maybe I'll do an update in 6 months :)

I have implemented the low light, cold air and note pad into my night routine. Game changers for sure. I've been suffering from lack of sleep and low quality sleep bc of anxiety/stress. I have an active mind esp at night. Some nights aren't wins but more nights have been lately and that has helped so much. Such simple adjustments with big outcomes.
Dr. Mike: "Have you ever slept in sweaty sheets?" Me: *Has intense flashbacks of sleeping in those hot summer nights without any air conditioning* "AHHHHHHH"
Ever had that feeling when you hated the sweaty sheets in summer, but when winter comes around and you can barely sleep because you somehow busted the heating system and it is literally freezing, you kind of miss the hot summer nights? You can take off as much as you want when sleeping in summer, but added blankets do nothing if they’re all pretty much frozen solid and your body isn’t going to heat them up any time soon in winter.
The first 20 years of my life - living in south-west Ohio with no AC at all. just open windows and on those hot humid nights of REALLY still air.... and you prayed for a gentle breeze. Worst of all was the neighbor had a night light and our (yes our - my 2 brothers and I in one bedroom ) so we had curtains. When really young there was one bed under a window and you hoped it was your week under that window since you got the breeze first. Eventually my dad got a small window fan and put the fan in the window on the other end of the house and only had the bedroom windows open... Yes - dad was an engineer but even that didn't do much. The summer thunder storm was great - felt cooler due to moving air but there was a lot less sleep. You hoped that there was a cold front after the thunderstorm because if there wasn't - the bed just got wetter due to the humidity. And my wife does not understand why I can't sleep while camping...

Shivam Gupta when Dr Mike said to write down three good things about your day, I immediately tried to think of three good things. Then I remembered. Nothing, nothing, and... you guessed it. Nothing. Sucks for us, I guess.
So you do not have a beautiful mini-computer in your hands, otherwise known as a phone? You do not have a place you call home? You are hungry as you cannot afford food and run around in rags, as you cannot afford clothes? Nobody taught you to read and write, obviously? You live in times where there is high quality medical care. You live in times where you have all the knowledge of the world in your hands. You live in times where you can afford to play/look for videos on youtube for hours a day and still have food on the table. You find nothing you can be grateful for? Seriously? You take a lot of your life for granted.
Doctor Mike: ''Since we live in homes there are no predators'' My cat: *is creepin and ready to jump me from across the room* :3? Me: guess I live in the jungle LoL
I can beat that. My cocker spaniel once took objection to me ignoring her. She tried to batt my face with her paw to wake me up (ever so gently, poor girl). When that failed, however (I ignored her), she decided there was one solution. She physically sat on my face. Instantly got up and picked her up. She licked my face wagging her tail. As if to say "yeah, human is awake! :D"
Thank you doctor mike. I've been binge watching your videos lately, and this by far is probably the most helpful for me, especially the "three things." Will definitely start doing that today.

I'm England and I was like What that's hot. Then I'm like oh he means Fahrenheit. Because 65°F is around 18°C. I was like that would be hot. Also global warming not good.
The term global warming is kind if deceptive because it can just as quickly turn into global cooling. If you think it's bad when it's hot, just wait until you get extreme flash freezes.
Dr. Mike: i wanted to tell you the three good things. Me: oh, oh, oh. Chest compressions, chest compressions, chest compressions? Dr. Mike: *lists actually three good things *
You can probably have a fan on for a bit before you sleep, or open a window for a little, which might also help make your room less stuffy, but not all night because then it'll be too cold to sleep comfortably.
AT B Trust me I’ve tried it all haha. I have to sleep right above the garage and all its concentrated heat rises into my room like I’m in an oven. At least I’m a bit warmer in the winter! I found the most effective thing to do is just go to bed with cold, wet hair and the window open. Then, my hair will dry as the room cools down and it all evens out. But of course that doesn’t always work out so perfectly.
Not technically as it's a survival mechanism and surviving is positive so I guess... Also short term anxiousness and pressure helps in improving performance sometimes

Dr. Mike: "Have you ever slept in sweaty sheets?"
Me: *Has intense flashbacks of sleeping in those hot summer nights without any air conditioning*
"AHHHHHHH"
Christine Cannibal that is literally my worst nightmare haha
Growing up we NEVER had air conditioning!
When i went to college, it was so hot sometimes that i used to soak some towels on water, turn the fan on and cover me with them. Terrible times.
Oh Thank you for this wonderful video because of the stress that I'm dealing with and because of my anxiety it has prevented me from sleeping
Imagine being THAT good looking at night lol

also me:
**Can't think of anything good**
**anxiety intensifies**
**rolls in the corner and cries all night**
Shivam Gupta when Dr Mike said to write down three good things about your day, I immediately tried to think of three good things. Then I remembered. Nothing, nothing, and... you guessed it. Nothing. Sucks for us, I guess.
Bro... you did at least eat, right? :) That's one already...
I had coffee... so that's something
If you can't think of anything, it just means that there are too many good things to choose from
So you do not have a beautiful mini-computer in your hands, otherwise known as a phone? You do not have a place you call home? You are hungry as you cannot afford food and run around in rags, as you cannot afford clothes?
Nobody taught you to read and write, obviously?
You live in times where there is high quality medical care. You live in times where you have all the knowledge of the world in your hands. You live in times where you can afford to play/look for videos on youtube for hours a day and still have food on the table.
You find nothing you can be grateful for? Seriously? You take a lot of your life for granted.
I have been watching your videos in my free time, and I love how honest and real you are! Oh, and I can't get enough of Bear 😍

Doctor Mike: ''Since we live in homes there are no predators''
My cat: *is creepin and ready to jump me from across the room* :3?
Me: guess I live in the jungle LoL
I can beat that. My cocker spaniel once took objection to me ignoring her. She tried to batt my face with her paw to wake me up (ever so gently, poor girl). When that failed, however (I ignored her), she decided there was one solution. She physically sat on my face. Instantly got up and picked her up. She licked my face wagging her tail. As if to say "yeah, human is awake! :D"
Stettafire that’s legendary
Thank you doctor mike. I've been binge watching your videos lately, and this by far is probably the most helpful for me, especially the "three things." Will definitely start doing that today.

Doctor mike : I ideally look for 65°
Global warming : not anymore
I'm England and I was like What that's hot. Then I'm like oh he means Fahrenheit. Because 65°F is around 18°C. I was like that would be hot.
Also global warming not good.

@@waziyaptbaig2458 yes 👍
Oh you'll see 65 soon, 65°C the way it's moving
The term global warming is kind if deceptive because it can just as quickly turn into global cooling. If you think it's bad when it's hot, just wait until you get extreme flash freezes.

“First thing to do is set the temperature”
me: doesn’t have air conditioner and wakes up sweating every summer night
You can probably have a fan on for a bit before you sleep, or open a window for a little, which might also help make your room less stuffy, but not all night because then it'll be too cold to sleep comfortably.
I live in Southern California and we don't even have heat
@@andrewthezeppo wait really
Hannah I live in Southern California and it gets up to the 90s and even 100s where I’m at so...
Dr mike: sets the humidity, temperature and lighting in his room before he goes to bed
Me: just rolls into bed 😂
Me too 😂
I always write a gratitude list before bed & explain all the things I’m thankful for 🙌🏽

Anxiety is the enemy of good sleep.
Me:
Isn't anxiety the enemy of...everything good?
Not if you are trying to survive.
Not technically as it's a survival mechanism and surviving is positive so I guess... Also short term anxiousness and pressure helps in improving performance sometimes
Late but...the enemy of everything good should be *constant anxiety* or unleashed anxiety (free levels of)
