As a doctor and a boxer (in addition to being a RUclipsr and a social media content creator as well as a dog dad) Bear no doubt makes Mike happy as he has to save many lives as a doctor, prove his worth in the ring as a boxer, and make interesting content on RUclips.
i love how you actually bothered to learn about dogs to help keep him happy and healthy. As a animal lover and dog trainer i have so much respect for you.
a maybe weird/cool curiosity: you can actually spin and knit domestic dog's fur into a wool like cloth, its called Chiengora, looking at the amount of fur bear lefts after bath i'm starting to think it would be a great business to make his own fur based mechandise 😆
As a vet, I have to admit is incredibly satisfying seeing Dr Mike doing this and taking so much care of all the super important "details" to take care of his skin and health
It's in his biology! Newfoundland dogs were historically bred to be working dogs for fishermen. In addition to the oils in their fur to give them some degree of water resistance, they also have webbed feet, are extremely strong swimmers and generally love all things water. They are still used for water rescue today. Newfies are also typically very calm and chill dogs in general, and are great with kids.
You shouldn't be bathing your cats anyway... Cats are very clean creatures who clean themselves, and unless there is something in their fur (like they've rolled in grass and smeared a dead slug across their fur) then there should be no need for you to groom your cats. OR unless your cat has a case of fleas, OR is VERY old and unable to groom themselves. Cats are desert creatures, meaning they originate from a place with very little water, and take it water from the food they eat. Bathing simply isn't a concern for them, and can actually be detrimental to their overall long term skin health (cats can easily react to shampoos and soap - even pet safe ones - and it can cause severe dry skin) Brushing your cat is fine and actually recommended for older/longer haired cats because older cats find it harder to groom.
I have a female chocolate newfie named Sophie and she's pretty much the exact same with grooming (except for the ears, when I have to do the actual liquid wash in them she runs away from me). I used to use a dremmel, but then I found out that she'll literally just stand there and let me clip her nails without any fuss (we always played with her paws as a puppy). She does also love to eat the toothpaste. We like to call her a micro newf though since she's only between 100-110lbs (also very lean and muscular, so very healthy). I love seeing people who know how to groom Newfs well!
I love the way Bear just looks at Dr. Mike when he explains everything he is going to do next hahaha, like he is genuinely paying attention, what a good dog
I love how Dr. Mike clearly spent the time extensively educating himself about dogs, newfoundlands, and medical information surrounding them. Glad to see such a responsible pet owner.
Omg! Bear is unbelievably adorable.❤ I have never seen a dog so relaxed, & calmed while getting groomed. You could tell is all the love, time, & communication you have with him. This is such a beautiful video. We need more Bear videos. L❤ved it!
I’m a dog groomer and this is one of the best home grooms I have ever seen. Well done you. I do have a few tips if you want to make it even better and safer than it already is: 1) Get a deshedding tool, I would recommend the equigroomer. This will pull out so much more dead hair without damaging his top coat and leaves beautiful results! 2) When you trim him, instead of bouncing the scissors, keep your hand nice and still. This reduces the risk of injury to Bear, reduces fatigue for you and creates a cleaner cut. I’d also just invest in some cheap but decent doggy scissors! Other than that, I honestly can’t really fault this groom at all. Home grooms terrify me, as we see the aftermath of the irresponsible ones (deep lacerations, major rashes and infection, severe matting because people only brush the top coat and shave downs on dogs like newfies which should only be the absolute last resort), so seeing this groom was lovely 💜 You’ve clearly invested a lot of time and money into ensuring Bear is well cared for and that you have the correct knowledge to groom him. Seriously, well done from England 💜🐾
It takes a real level of trust for an animal to feel THAT comfortable in a vulnerable position! You can see the trust and understanding in that baby bear's eyes! I love seeing the bond the two of you have, and thank you for knowing your dog beyond 'walk and pets'. Showing the animals the devices you will be using on them is INCREDIBLY important in terms of trust. You're awesome!
Hi I’m a dog groomer! I think this video is amazing at showing at home grooming. The only thing I would recommend is different brushing tools only to save your time. I find it’s much faster using a slicker brush, a deshedding rake, and a metal comb (for checking your work) is the best for brushing out super floofy dogs like yours without taking hours (I made this mistake too before). I also find if you can hold the dryer and brush gently at the same time it helps removing some fur. Everything you were doing (especially with blocking the blade from the dog with the dematting tool) is correct and great I just figured I’d share some time saving techniques with you 🥰❤️
I’m rewatching this video again and I would also add that dogs can withstand a higher temperature water than expected. Obviously you shouldn’t use super hot water but having it be warmer then lukewarm is better because they’ll be less cold. Puppies need a higher temperature too
Wow I'm so impressed. You've trained him so well to be tolerant of the whole grooming process, and you know all the things! You should do a collab with Girl with the Dogs sometime. She's awesome!
OMG I WAS JUST THINKING THAT! bear would definitely be great on her channel, but her salon is in the niagara section of canada and im gonna assume from this video's title that doctor mike lives in nyc so i dont think its possible 😓

As a dog groomer/teacher I really hope you see this and it helps make things even easier for you. Try a Chris Christensen coral brush. It’s great on thick coats like Bear’s. Also the razor blade brush is meant to break mats to make them easier to brush. If you use it too much you can cause more matting to occur. I have other tips too (especially with those scissors), but for an at home job you didn’t too bad and I’m happy to see you take such good care of him ❤
We've got one dedicated furdaddy here! Such a fine example of how it is possible to still take GOOD care of your pets despite having a busy schedule. And I also love how Bear is just looking at Dr. Mike while he is explaining what he'll do. I wonder how much time Dr. Mike is taking to finish Bear's grooming to cleaning everything afterwards. 🤔
My uncooperative Yorkie loves watching things and to groom him I showed him this vid and said, “see bear is being a good boy. You have to be like that too.” And then he was a good boy after he saw bear not making a fuss about getting blow-dried. Thank you bear for being a good role model for my little Yorkie Pluto. 😊 Maybe one day bear will meet Pluto bc I live 30 min from NYC so who knows? Edit: 218 likes??!?!?!?! Maybe he'll see this 😆
As a professional groomer, I really admire how knowledgeable you are and how much you care for Bear. Your little tips and tricks about pushing the nail out to see better, making sure not to leave moisture to prevent skin infections... You were very thorough with brushing his coat and so careful when doing the scary stuff like nails. Incredibly well done home groom :)
Bear is literally so adorable. I’ve been trying to convince my mom to get a Newfoundland but she won’t listen (ill even settle for something a little smaller😂)
Dog groomer here. You shared a lot of good info that I often teach my clients and new groomers. A couple of recommendations to make that easier on you. Stretch you back before and after grooming a newfound on the floor! Use the mat breaker & brush BEFORE the hair gets wet. Upgrade your brush (Big G slicker brush by Chris Chistensen) & use conditioner and a demat spray. - changing your shower head will probably get you better water pressure. Great dog handling skills and Good Job to Bear!🎉
Omg yes! I was going to say the same thing! Also, definitely recommend a metal comb for the small tangles that are missed by the matt-splitter and slicker brush.

This is one of the best videos on dog grooming I've ever seen! Bear has a wonderful Daddy Xx

I like how Doctor Mike turns into a child mentally when he’s around bear. Bear makes him so happy and I love that.
As a doctor and a boxer (in addition to being a RUclipsr and a social media content creator as well as a dog dad) Bear no doubt makes Mike happy as he has to save many lives as a doctor, prove his worth in the ring as a boxer, and make interesting content on RUclips.
I’m another dog groomer and I think we all can agree you do an amazing job on him!
Dog? Bro that is a brown bear IDK what your seeing.
honestly i think Dr. Mike is one of those people who is oddly good at everything lol
i love how you actually bothered to learn about dogs to help keep him happy and healthy. As a animal lover and dog trainer i have so much respect for you.
someone doing the bare minimum of what you should do with your animal making people very happy is sad
@@crusadertwo239 Sad thing is people aren't even doing the bare minimum .
Dr Mike, you should collab with Molly Burke again, Both Bear & Elton John!💘🐶 🦮

a maybe weird/cool curiosity: you can actually spin and knit domestic dog's fur into a wool like cloth, its called Chiengora, looking at the amount of fur bear lefts after bath i'm starting to think it would be a great business to make his own fur based mechandise 😆
Yes you can spin the fur. A friend of mine does.
I was thinking the exact same thing! Spin that floof! Would make a great yarn mixed with a little sheep.
the next line of "chest compressions" sweatshirts 🤣
what a cool idea. Evan and Katelyn recently made a cate toy from their cat Joobs fur. It was super cute. 🤣
Make mini Bears out of Bear genius!
It's not like just to see a very well behaved dog. There is a very rare connection between you two. A deep love that people around can easily feel.
You can tell how much you love Bear by how much you smiled as you groomed him in this video 🤩
*Dont_Read_My_Namess.* 😑
I did NOT expect his bark to be so cute and high pitched!
Me either! He sounds like a little Chihuahua or something lol I was expecting his voice to be soooo much deeper lol 😂
somebody get a time stamp please
10:47 i found it
And 10:03!
As a vet, I have to admit is incredibly satisfying seeing Dr Mike doing this and taking so much care of all the super important "details" to take care of his skin and health
Bear will always have a special place in my heart. stay healthy!!!

@@GriffinZambia ok
That is the most chill dog ever. I wish my cats would act like that when I attempt to bathe them.
Facts
It's in his biology! Newfoundland dogs were historically bred to be working dogs for fishermen. In addition to the oils in their fur to give them some degree of water resistance, they also have webbed feet, are extremely strong swimmers and generally love all things water. They are still used for water rescue today. Newfies are also typically very calm and chill dogs in general, and are great with kids.
My cats don't even let me be near them when water is running.
I don’t even know how u attempt to bathe an animal (dog/cat) I can’t go near my dog without 15 minutes of running please teach me! Lol
Bathing simply isn't a concern for them, and can actually be detrimental to their overall long term skin health (cats can easily react to shampoos and soap - even pet safe ones - and it can cause severe dry skin)
Brushing your cat is fine and actually recommended for older/longer haired cats because older cats find it harder to groom.
I love how he just gets in the tub without any issues.
It's the first time I heared him bark. I would have suspected a much deeper voice for such a big fluff. So cute
*Dont_Read_My_Namess.* 😑
I admit I expected a deeper bark from him as well given his size.
bro.This dog is his child
He sounds like my friend's mini-doodle!
I think he barked on a previous video. It was actually lower than here, but I can't remember which video.
I love that he's so chill and comfortable with all this grooming! Now THAT is trust! What a pretty boy!
I don't even have a dog but this was so therapeutic and heartwarming to watch. Thank you Mike for the positive vibes. Bear is absolutely adorable. ❤️
I do have a few tips if you want to make it even better and safer than it already is:
1) Get a deshedding tool, I would recommend the equigroomer.
Seriously, well done from England 💜🐾
very informative comment
Equigroomer would be better
Nobody cares Meg
Equigroomer is also used by @Girlwiththedogs (Vanessa in Canada) -- plus great extra tips!
I love how his dog is super chill about baths, whereas my grandparents dog-

my dog more like ww2
Hi I’m a dog groomer! I think this video is amazing at showing at home grooming. The only thing I would recommend is different brushing tools only to save your time. I find it’s much faster using a slicker brush, a deshedding rake, and a metal comb (for checking your work) is the best for brushing out super floofy dogs like yours without taking hours (I made this mistake too before). I also find if you can hold the dryer and brush gently at the same time it helps removing some fur. Everything you were doing (especially with blocking the blade from the dog with the dematting tool) is correct and great I just figured I’d share some time saving techniques with you 🥰❤️
Dr. Mike should collab with Girl With the Dogs
I second this. Really wish you had a nice quality comb!! Also, protect your ears while using the dryer. Otherwise really informative!
2nd this!
OMG I WAS JUST THINKING THAT! bear would definitely be great on her channel, but her salon is in the niagara section of canada and im gonna assume from this video's title that doctor mike lives in nyc so i dont think its possible 😓
yeeep! was thinking the same! Both Bear and Roxy!
Dr Mike, you should collab with Molly Burke again, Both Bear & Elton John!💘🐶 🦮
OMG YES PLEEEASE!!! This colab would be incredible!!! 🤩
Newfoundlands love water. He has probably been waiting for his bath all week. I had a West highland white terrier that loved bath time.
Bear is just as handsome and chill as his Daddy. What a good Doc and Dog combo! Loved this!
is it just me or is dr. mike going to be the most amazing father someday?!

Man's just bonding with his dog on a deep level, really taking care of that big floof. Love to see it.
The most 4 parts I loved the most are-
1-Mike explaining each step to Bear
2-Upbeat background music
3-Bear's cooperation
4-Satisfying grooming appliances and grooming.
The fun part is brushing the teeth😂
5. That, judging by the light outside the window, it looks like this exercise took literally all day.
I just like the look of the good doctor

He’s such an easy going pupper!! Lol he’s adorable!
Bear needs an award for calmest dog during grooming and cutest dog ever 🎉🎉🎉
As a dog groomer/teacher I really hope you see this and it helps make things even easier for you. Try a Chris Christensen coral brush. It’s great on thick coats like Bear’s. Also the razor blade brush is meant to break mats to make them easier to brush. If you use it too much you can cause more matting to occur. I have other tips too (especially with those scissors), but for an at home job you didn’t too bad and I’m happy to see you take such good care of him ❤
I came here to comment on his scissoring technique lol 😆 I do love that he's trying though. Better than 70% of the customers that walk in our doors.
-I loved the part of bear when he was playing dead then the LOUD PPEEWOOP SOUND CAME INTO EFFECT! LAMOOOO -THE HEARTBEAT AHHHHH

There’s a lot of subtext but it might just be me
As soon as he said that I was like “done. Next step”
Maybe one day bear will meet Pluto bc I live 30 min from NYC so who knows?

As a professional groomer, I really admire how knowledgeable you are and how much you care for Bear.
@Reaper-hz4vs sorry I mis- read your question the breed is called Newfoundland Dog. “Newfie” for short
